1 B etter is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

Mai mult preţuieşte un sărac care umblă în integritate decât cel cu buze stricate şi prost.

2 A lso, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.

Nu este bine să ai râvnă fără cunoaştere, nici să fii pripit şi să greşeşti calea.

3 T he foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord.

Prostia unui om îi suceşte calea, şi apoi inima lui se înfurie împotriva Domnului.

4 W ealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.

Bogăţia aduce mulţi prieteni, dar săracul este părăsit de prietenul lui.

5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.

Martorul fals nu va rămâne nepedepsit şi cel ce spune minciuni nu va scăpa.

6 M any will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.

Mulţi imploră favoarea unui om generos şi oricine este prieten cu cel ce dă daruri.

7 A ll the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.

Toate rudele îl părăsesc pe cel sărac; cu cât mai mult se depărtează prietenii lui de el! El îndreaptă spre ei cereri, dar ei nu sunt de găsit.

8 H e that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

Cine dobândeşte înţelepciunea îşi iubeşte sufletul; cine păstrează priceperea va găsi ce este bine.

9 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.

Martorul fals nu va rămâne nepedepsit şi cel ce spune minciuni va pieri.

10 D elight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.

Celui prost nu-i stă bine să trăiască în lux, cu atât mai puţin unui sclav să domnească peste prinţi.

11 T he discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

Chibzuinţa unui om îi dă răbdare; este o onoare pentru el să treacă peste o insultă.

12 T he king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.

Mânia regelui este ca răcnetul unui leu, dar bunăvoinţa lui este ca roua ierbii.

13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

Un fiu prost este ruina tatălui său şi o soţie cicălitoare este ca o picurare continuă.

14 H ouse and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the Lord.

Casa şi averea sunt o moştenire de la părinţi, dar o soţie chibzuită este de la Domnul.

15 S lothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

Lenea te cufundă într-un somn adânc şi omul trândav suferă de foame.

16 H e that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.

Cine ascultă îndrumările îşi protejează viaţa, dar cine este neatent asupra căilor lui va muri.

17 H e that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

Cine are milă de sărac Îl împrumută pe Domnul, iar El îi va răsplăti binefacerea.

18 C hasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.

Disciplinează-ţi fiul cât mai este încă speranţă, dar nu-i dori moartea.

19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.

Omul înfuriat trebuie să-şi ia pedeapsa, căci dacă-i treci cu vederea fapta, va trebui să faci din nou lucrul acesta.

20 H ear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

Ascultă sfatul şi primeşte învăţătura ca să fii înţelept pentru restul zilelor tale!

21 T here are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.

Multe sunt planurile în inima omului, dar hotărârea Domnului este cea care rămâne în picioare.

22 T he desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.

Ceea ce oamenii doresc să vadă într-un om este bunătatea lui. Este mai bine să fii sărac decât mincinos.

23 T he fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

Frica de Domnul duce la viaţă, iar cel ce o are se odihneşte mulţumit, fără să fie atins de rău.

24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

Leneşul îşi vâră mâna în blid şi n-o mai duce înapoi la gură.

25 S mite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.

Bate pe batjocoritor şi cel nesăbuit va învăţa prudenţa; mustră pe cel priceput şi va înţelege cunoaşterea.

26 H e that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.

Cine îşi jefuieşte tatăl şi îşi alungă mama este un fiu care aduce ruşine şi dispreţ.

27 C ease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

Fiule, dacă vei înceta să mai asculţi învăţătura, te vei îndepărta de cuvintele cunoştinţei!

28 A n ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.

Un martor corupt îşi bate joc de justiţie şi gura celor răi înghite nedreptatea.

29 J udgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.

Pedepsele sunt pregătite pentru batjocoritori şi loviturile pentru spatele proştilor.
