1 B y night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

Am tânjit toată noaptea, în patul meu, după iubitul inimii mele; am tânjit după el, dar el n-a venit.

2 I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

Însă acum mă voi ridica şi voi străbate cetatea, voi merge pe străzile şi în pieţele ei; îl voi căuta pe iubitul inimii mele! L-am căutat, dar nu l-am găsit.

3 T he watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?

M-au găsit santinelele care dădeau ocol cetăţii. „Nu l-aţi văzut pe iubitul inimii mele?“

4 I t was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother's house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.

De-abia trecusem de ei şi l-am găsit pe iubitul inimii mele! L-am prins şi nu l-am mai lăsat până nu l-am adus în casa mamei mele, în odaia celei ce m-a născut.

5 I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.

Vă conjur, fiice ale Ierusalimului, pe gazelele şi pe căprioarele câmpului: nu stârniţi şi nu treziţi iubirea până când nu-i va face ei plăcere! Corul

6 W ho is this that cometh out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?

Ce se iveşte din pustie, ca nişte stâlpi de fum, parfumaţi cu smirnă şi cu tămâie, preparaţi din toate aromele negustorului?

7 B ehold his bed, which is Solomon's; threescore valiant men are about it, of the valiant of Israel.

Iată, este lectica lui Solomon, cu şaizeci de războinici în jurul ei, dintre bărbaţii cei mai viteji ai lui Israel,

8 T hey all hold swords, being expert in war: every man hath his sword upon his thigh because of fear in the night.

toţi înarmaţi cu săbii şi având experienţă în luptă, fiecare purtându-şi sabia la şold, din cauza terorii din noapte.

9 K ing Solomon made himself a chariot of the wood of Lebanon.

Regele Solomon şi-a făcut această lectică din lemn de Liban.

10 H e made the pillars thereof of silver, the bottom thereof of gold, the covering of it of purple, the midst thereof being paved with love, for the daughters of Jerusalem.

Stâlpii i-a făcut din argint, iar cadrul din aur. Scaunul a fost făcut din purpură, iar interiorul a fost împodobit cu piele de către fiicele Ierusalimului.

11 G o forth, O ye daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart.

Ieşiţi, fiice ale Sionului, şi priviţi-l pe regele Solomon purtând coroana, coroana primită de la mama sa în ziua căsătoriei lui, în ziua bucuriei inimii lui!
