1 A nd Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.

Saul a vorbit cu fiul său Ionatan şi cu toţi slujitorii săi să-l omoare pe David. Însă lui Ionatan îi era foarte drag David,

2 B ut Jonathan Saul's son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself:

de aceea l-a înştiinţat spunându-i: – Tatăl meu, Saul, caută să te ucidă. De aceea păzeşte-te mâine dimineaţă şi stai într-un loc ascuns.

3 A nd I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.

Eu voi ieşi şi voi sta lângă tatăl meu în câmpul în care te vei afla tu. Îi voi vorbi despre tine şi îţi voi spune ce voi afla.

4 A nd Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good:

Ionatan a vorbit de bine despre David tatălui său Saul, spunându-i: – Să nu păcătuiască regele împotriva slujitorului său David, pentru că el nu a păcătuit împotriva ta, ci dimpotrivă, faptele sale ţi-au slujit foarte bine.

5 F or he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the Lord wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?

Şi-a riscat viaţa atunci când l-a ucis pe filistean, iar Domnul a adus o mare victorie pentru întreg Israelul. Tu ai văzut lucrul acesta şi te-ai bucurat. De ce atunci să păcătuieşti împotriva unui nevinovat, omorându-l pe David fără nici un motiv?

6 A nd Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As the Lord liveth, he shall not be slain.

Saul a ascultat de Ionatan şi a jurat: – Viu este Domnul că David nu va fi ucis.

7 A nd Jonathan called David, and Jonathan shewed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as in times past.

Atunci Ionatan l-a chemat pe David şi i-a spus toate aceste cuvinte. Apoi l-a adus la Saul, căruia David a continuat să-i slujească ca înainte.

8 A nd there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.

Între timp a izbucnit din nou războiul. David a luptat împotriva filistenilor şi le-a pricinuit o înfrângere aşa de mare, încât aceştia au fugit dinaintea lui.

9 A nd the evil spirit from the Lord was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand.

Într-o zi, pe când Saul şedea în casa sa, duhul cel rău trimis de Domnul a venit peste el. Saul ţinea în mână o suliţă, iar David cânta la liră.

10 A nd Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin: but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.

Saul a încercat să-l ţintuiască pe David cu suliţa de zid, însă acesta s-a ferit de Saul, care a înfipt suliţa în perete. Apoi David a fugit şi a scăpat în noaptea aceea.

11 S aul also sent messengers unto David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal David's wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to morrow thou shalt be slain.

Atunci Saul a trimis nişte oameni la casa lui David ca să-l pândească şi dimineaţa să-l omoare. Însă Mihal, soţia lui David, l-a înştiinţat spunându-i: „Dacă nu-ţi scapi viaţa în noaptea aceasta, mâine vei fi ucis.“

12 S o Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.

Mihal l-a coborât pe David pe fereastră, iar acesta a fugit şi a scăpat.

13 A nd Michal took an image, and laid it in the bed, and put a pillow of goats' hair for his bolster, and covered it with a cloth.

Apoi Mihal a luat terafimul, l-a aşezat în pat, i-a pus pe cap nişte păr de capră şi l-a acoperit cu o cuvertură.

14 A nd when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick.

Când Saul a trimis oamenii să-l captureze pe David, Mihal le-a spus că este bolnav.

15 A nd Saul sent the messengers again to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.

Dar Saul a trimis oamenii înapoi să-l vadă pe David şi le-a zis: – Aduceţi-l la mine, în patul lui, ca să-l omor.

16 A nd when the messengers were come in, behold, there was an image in the bed, with a pillow of goats' hair for his bolster.

Când aceştia au intrat, în pat se afla terafimul cu părul de capră pe cap.

17 A nd Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me so, and sent away mine enemy, that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?

Atunci Saul a întrebat-o pe Mihal: – De ce m-ai trădat în felul acesta şi l-ai lăsat pe duşmanul meu să plece şi să scape? Mihal i-a răspuns: – El mi-a zis: „Lasă-mă să plec, altfel te omor!“

18 S o David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.

David a fugit şi a scăpat; s-a dus la Samuel, la Rama şi i-a spus tot ceea ce i-a făcut Saul. Apoi, împreună cu Samuel, a plecat şi a locuit la Naiot.

19 A nd it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.

Saul a fost înştiinţat de lucrul acesta, spunându-i-se: – David se află la Naiot, în Rama.

20 A nd Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.

Atunci Saul a trimis nişte oameni să-l prindă pe David. Însă când aceştia au întâlnit o ceată de profeţi profeţind, avându-l pe Samuel drept conducător, Duhul lui Dumnezeu a venit peste oamenii lui Saul, astfel că şi ei au început să profeţească.

21 A nd when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also.

Când i s-a spus lui Saul lucrul acesta, el a trimis alţi oameni, dar şi aceştia au început să profeţească. Saul a trimis din nou oameni, pentru a treia oară, dar şi aceştia au profeţit.

22 T hen went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that is in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they be at Naioth in Ramah.

În cele din urmă, a plecat el însuşi spre Rama. A ajuns la fântâna cea mare, care se află în Secu şi a întrebat: – Unde sunt Samuel şi David? Cineva i-a răspuns: – Sunt la Naiot, în Rama.

23 A nd he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

Atunci Saul s-a îndreptat spre Naiot, în Rama. Însă Duhul lui Dumnezeu a venit şi peste el, iar el şi-a continuat drumul profeţind până ce a ajuns la Naiot, în Rama.

24 A nd he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?

S-a dezbrăcat şi el de hainele sale şi a profeţit şi el înaintea lui Samuel. A zăcut dezbrăcat toată ziua şi toată noaptea aceea. De aceea se zice: „Este oare şi Saul printre profeţi?“
