1 H ear ye now what the Lord saith; Arise, contend thou before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.

Ascultaţi ce zice Domnul: „Ridică-te şi apără-ţi pricina înaintea munţilor şi dealurile să-ţi asculte glasul!

2 H ear ye, O mountains, the Lord 's controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for the Lord hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel.

Munţi, ascultaţi acuza Domnului! Luaţi aminte, temelii trainice ale pământului, căci Domnul are o dispută cu poporul Său şi se judecă cu Israel!

3 O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me.

Poporul Meu, ce ţi-am făcut? Cu ce te-am împovărat? Răspunde-Mi!

4 F or I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

Căci te-am scos din ţara Egiptului şi te-am răscumpărat din casa sclaviei! I-am trimis înaintea ta pe Moise, pe Aaron şi pe Miriam!

5 O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal; that ye may know the righteousness of the Lord.

Poporul Meu, adu-ţi aminte ce plănuia Balak, regele Moabului, şi ce i-a răspuns Balaam, fiul lui Beor! Aminteşte-ţi ce s-a întâmplat de la Şitim la Ghilgal, ca să pricepi faptele drepte ale Domnului!

6 W herewith shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?

Cu ce-L voi întâmpina pe Domnul, cu ce mă voi pleca înaintea Dumnezeului Preaînalt? Să-L întâmpin oare cu arderi de tot, cu viţei de un an?

7 W ill the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

Va fi, oare, Domnul mulţumit cu mii de berbeci sau cu zeci de mii de torente de untdelemn? Să dau, oare, pentru nelegiuirea mea pe întâiul meu născut, să ofer rodul trupului meu pentru păcatele sufletului meu?

8 H e hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

El ţi-a arătat, omule, ce este bine! Şi ce altceva cere Domnul de la tine decât să faci dreptate, să iubeşti îndurarea şi să umbli smerit cu Dumnezeul tău? Vina şi pedeapsa lui Israel

9 T he Lord 's voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.

Glasul Domnului strigă cetăţii (Este înţelept să se teamă de Numele Tău! ): Ascultaţi pedeapsa şi pe Cel Ce o hotărăşte!

10 A re there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable?

Mai sunt în casa celui rău comori nelegiuite şi blestemata aceea de efă mică?

11 S hall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?

Pot socoti Eu curat pe cel cu cântare măsluite şi cu greutăţi înşelătoare în sac?

12 F or the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

Bogaţii cetăţii sunt plini de violenţă; locuitorii ei spun minciuni şi limba le este înşelătoare.“

13 T herefore also will I make thee sick in smiting thee, in making thee desolate because of thy sins.

„De aceea şi Eu te voi lovi cu boală, te voi pustii pentru păcatele tale!

14 T hou shalt eat, but not be satisfied; and thy casting down shall be in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take hold, but shalt not deliver; and that which thou deliverest will I give up to the sword.

Vei mânca, dar nu te vei sătura, ci foamea va rămâne în tine. Vei ascunde lucruri, dar nu le vei putea salva, şi ceea ce totuşi vei salva voi da pradă sabiei.

15 T hou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and sweet wine, but shalt not drink wine.

Vei semăna, dar nu vei secera; vei stoarce măsline, dar nu te vei unge cu uleiul lor; vei face must, dar nu vei bea vin.

16 F or the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people.

Ai păzit hotărârile lui Omri şi toate faptele casei lui Ahab, urmând sfaturile lor. De aceea te voi da pradă pustiirii, locuitorii tăi vor fi de batjocură şi veţi purta batjocura popoarelor.“
