1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.

Voi sta la locul meu de strajă şi mă voi aşeza în turnul cetăţuii. Voi veghea ca să văd ce-mi va spune Domnul şi ce-mi va răspunde cu privire la plângerea mea. Răspunsul Domnului

2 A nd the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

Domnul mi-a răspuns, zicându-mi: – Scrie viziunea, graveaz-o clar pe tăbliţe, pentru ca un herald să poată alerga cu ea!

3 F or the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Căci este o viziune care încă aşteaptă vremea împlinirii! Ea mărturiseşte despre sfârşit şi nu va minţi! Dacă ţi se pare că întârzie, aşteapt-o, căci va veni cu siguranţă şi nu va întârzia!

4 B ehold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Iată, s-a îngâmfat! Nu-i este neprihănit sufletul în el; însă cel drept va trăi prin credinţa lui.

5 Y ea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:

Într-adevăr, vinul îl înşală; este un om mândru şi niciodată mulţumit; el îşi măreşte pofta ca Locuinţa Morţilor şi este nesăţios ca moartea, atunci când strânge la sine toate neamurile şi adună la sine toate popoarele.

6 S hall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!

Oare nu vor face toate acestea, pe seama lui, zicale, satire şi ghicitori, zicându-se: „Vai de cel ce adună ce nu este al lui – dar oare până când? – şi de cel ce se îmbogăţeşte cu lucruri luate drept garanţii!

7 S hall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?

Oare nu se vor ridica dintr-odată cei ce te-au împrumutat ? Oare nu se vor trezi cei ce te fac să tremuri? Vei ajunge astfel o pradă pentru ei.

8 B ecause thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil thee; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

Fiindcă ai jefuit multe neamuri, toate popoarele care vor rămâne te vor jefui! Căci ai vărsat sângele oamenilor şi ai săvârşit violenţă pe pământ, împotriva cetăţilor şi împotriva tuturor celor ce locuiesc în ele!

9 W oe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!

Vai de cel ce strânge câştiguri necinstite pentru casa lui, ca să-şi aşeze apoi cuibul într-un loc înalt şi să scape din mâna nenorocirii!

10 T hou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul.

Ţi-ai plănuit, de fapt, ruşinea casei tale; retezând o mulţime de popoare, sufletul tău a păcătuit.

11 F or the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

Căci piatra din zid va striga, iar grinda dintre căpriorii casei îi va răspunde!

12 W oe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by iniquity!

Vai de cel ce zideşte o cetate cu sânge şi întemeiază un oraş prin nedreptate!

13 B ehold, is it not of the Lord of hosts that the people shall labour in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?

Să nu fie oare de la Domnul Oştirilor faptul că popoarele se trudesc doar pentru a hrăni focul şi neamurile se ostenesc pentru nimic?

14 F or the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.

Căci pământul va fi umplut de cunoştinţa slavei Domnului, aşa cum apele acoperă fundul mării.

15 W oe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!

Vai de cel ce dă semenului său să bea, de cel care-şi deşartă burduful până-l îmbată, ca să-i vadă goliciunea!

16 T hou art filled with shame for glory: drink thou also, and let thy foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the Lord 's right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful spewing shall be on thy glory.

Te vei sătura de ruşine, în loc de slavă! Acum bea şi tu şi clatină-te! Îţi va veni şi ţie rândul să iei cupa din dreapta Domnului şi va veni ruşinea şi peste slava ta!

17 F or the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.

Căci violenţa faţă de Liban se va întoarce împotriva ta, şi nimicirea fiarelor te va îngrozi din pricină că ai vărsat sângele oamenilor şi ai săvârşit violenţă pe pământ, împotriva cetăţilor şi împotriva tuturor celor ce locuiesc în ele!

18 W hat profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?

La ce foloseşte un idol, pe care l-a cioplit făuritorul? La ce ajută un chip turnat, care învaţă minciuni? Făuritorul se încrede în propria lui lucrare, deşi ceea ce a făcut sunt doar nişte idoli muţi.

19 W oe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

Vai de cel ce zice lemnului: «Trezeşte-te!» sau pietrei mute: «Scoală-te!» Poate ea să dea învăţătură? Iată că este acoperită cu aur şi argint, dar nu este nici o suflare în ea!

20 B ut the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.

Domnul însă este în Templul Său cel sfânt! Tot pământul să tacă înaintea Lui!“
