1 “ I have told you these things so you will not be ashamed of Me and leave Me.

«Io vi ho detto queste cose affinché non siate sviati.

2 T hey will put you out of the places of worship. The time will come when anyone who kills you will think he is helping God.

Vi espelleranno dalle sinagoghe; anzi, l’ora viene che chiunque vi ucciderà, crederà di rendere un culto a Dio.

3 T hey will do these things to you because they do not know the Father or Me.

Faranno questo perché non hanno conosciuto né il Padre né me.

4 “ When these things happen, you will remember I told you they would happen. That is why I am telling you about these things now. I did not tell you these things before, because I was with you.

Ma io vi ho detto queste cose affinché, quando sia giunta l’ora, vi ricordiate che ve le ho dette. Non ve le dissi da principio perché ero con voi. Lo Spirito agisce nel mondo e nei discepoli

5 B ut now I am going to Him Who sent Me. Yet none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ The Three Kinds of Work of the Holy Spirit

«Ma ora vado a colui che mi ha mandato; e nessuno di voi mi domanda: “Dove vai?”

6 “ Your hearts are full of sorrow because I am telling you these things.

Invece, perché vi ho detto queste cose, la tristezza vi ha riempito il cuore.

7 I tell you the truth. It is better for you that I go away. If I do not go, the Helper will not come to you. If I go, I will send Him to you.

Eppure, io vi dico la verità: è utile per voi che io me ne vada; perché se non me ne vado, non verrà a voi il Consolatore; ma se me ne vado, io ve lo manderò.

8 W hen the Helper comes, He will show the world the truth about sin. He will show the world about being right with God. And He will show the world what it is to be guilty.

Quando sarà venuto, convincerà il mondo quanto al peccato, alla giustizia e al giudizio.

9 H e will show the world about sin, because they do not put their trust in Me.

Quanto al peccato, perché non credono in me;

10 H e will show the world about being right with God, because I go to My Father and you will see Me no more.

quanto alla giustizia, perché vado al Padre e non mi vedrete più;

11 H e will show the world what it is to be guilty because the leader of this world (Satan) is guilty. The Holy Spirit Will Give Honor to the Son

quanto al giudizio, perché il principe di questo mondo è stato giudicato.

12 “ I still have many things to say to you. You are not strong enough to understand them now.

Ho ancora molte cose da dirvi, ma non sono per ora alla vostra portata;

13 T he Holy Spirit is coming. He will lead you into all truth. He will not speak His Own words. He will speak what He hears. He will tell you of things to come.

quando però sarà venuto lui, lo Spirito della verità, egli vi guiderà in tutta la verità, perché non parlerà di suo, ma dirà tutto quello che avrà udito, e vi annuncerà le cose a venire.

14 H e will honor Me. He will receive what is Mine and will tell it to you.

Egli mi glorificherà perché prenderà del mio e ve lo annuncerà.

15 E verything the Father has is Mine. That is why I said to you, ‘He will receive what is Mine and will tell it to you.’ Jesus Tells of His Death

Tutte le cose che ha il Padre, sono mie; per questo ho detto che prenderà del mio e ve lo annuncerà. Gesù parla della sua morte, della sua risurrezione e della sua venuta

16 “ In a little while you will not see Me. Then in a little while you will see Me again.”

«Tra poco non mi vedrete più; e tra un altro poco mi vedrete ».

17 S ome of His followers said to each other, “What is He trying to tell us when He says, ‘In a little while you will not see Me, and in a little while you will see Me again,’ and ‘Because I go to My Father’ ?”

Allora alcuni dei suoi discepoli dissero tra di loro: «Che cos’è questo che ci dice: “Tra poco non mi vedrete più” e: “Tra un altro poco mi vedrete” e: “Perché vado al Padre”?»

18 S o they said, “What is He trying to tell us by saying, ‘A little while’ ? We do not know what He is talking about.”

Dicevano dunque: «Che cos’è questo “tra poco” {che egli dice}? Noi non sappiamo quello che egli voglia dire».

19 J esus knew they wanted to ask Him something. He said to them, “Are you asking each other why I said, ‘In a little while you will not see Me, and in a little while you will see Me again’?

Gesù comprese che volevano interrogarlo e disse loro: «Voi vi domandate l’un l’altro che cosa significano quelle mie parole: “Tra poco non mi vedrete più” e: “Tra un altro poco mi vedrete”?

20 F or sure, I tell you, you will cry and have sorrow, but the world will have joy. You will have sorrow, but your sorrow will turn into joy.

In verità, in verità vi dico che voi piangerete e farete cordoglio, e il mondo si rallegrerà. Sarete rattristati, ma la vostra tristezza sarà cambiata in gioia.

21 W hen a woman gives birth to a child, she has sorrow because her time has come. After the child is born, she forgets her pain. She is full of joy because a child has been born into the world.

La donna, quando partorisce, prova dolore perché è venuta la sua ora; ma quando ha dato alla luce il bambino, non si ricorda più dell’angoscia, per la gioia che sia venuta al mondo una creatura umana.

22 Y ou are sad now. I will see you again and then your hearts will be full of joy. No one can take your joy from you. Asking and Receiving

Così anche voi siete ora nel dolore; ma io vi vedrò di nuovo e il vostro cuore si rallegrerà, e nessuno vi toglierà la vostra gioia.

23 “ When the time comes that you see Me again, you will ask Me no question. For sure, I tell you, My Father will give you whatever you ask in My name.

In quel giorno non mi rivolgerete alcuna domanda. In verità, in verità vi dico che qualsiasi cosa domanderete al Padre nel mio nome, egli ve la darà.

24 U ntil now you have not asked for anything in My name. Ask and you will receive. Then your joy will be full.

Fino ad ora non avete chiesto nulla nel mio nome; chiedete e riceverete, affinché la vostra gioia sia completa.

25 “ I have told you these things in picture-stories. The time is coming when I will not use picture-stories. I will talk about My Father in plain words.

«Vi ho detto queste cose in similitudini; l’ora viene che non vi parlerò più in similitudini, ma apertamente vi farò conoscere il Padre.

26 I n that day you will ask in My name. I will not ask the Father for you

In quel giorno chiederete nel mio nome; e non vi dico che io pregherò il Padre per voi,

27 b ecause the Father loves you. He loves you because you love Me and believe that I came from the Father. Jesus Tells of His Going

poiché il Padre stesso vi ama, perché mi avete amato e avete creduto che sono proceduto da Dio.

28 “ I came from the Father and have come into the world. I am leaving the world and going to the Father.”

Sono proceduto dal Padre e sono venuto nel mondo; ora lascio il mondo, e vado al Padre».

29 H is followers said to Him, “Now You are talking in plain words. You are not using picture-stories.

I suoi discepoli dissero: «Ecco, adesso tu parli apertamente e non usi similitudini.

30 N ow we are sure You know everything. You do not need anyone to tell You anything. Because of this we believe that You came from God.”

Ora sappiamo che sai ogni cosa e non hai bisogno che nessuno ti interroghi; perciò crediamo che sei proceduto da Dio».

31 J esus said to them, “Do you believe now?

Gesù rispose loro: «Adesso credete ?

32 T he time is coming, yes, it is already here when you will be going your own way. Everyone will go to his own house and leave Me alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with Me.

L’ora viene, anzi è venuta, che sarete dispersi, ciascuno per conto suo, e mi lascerete solo; ma io non sono solo, perché il Padre è con me.

33 I have told you these things so you may have peace in Me. In the world you will have much trouble. But take hope! I have power over the world!”

Vi ho detto queste cose, affinché abbiate pace in me. Nel mondo avete tribolazione; ma fatevi coraggio, io ho vinto il mondo».
