1 T his letter is from Paul and Timothy. We are servants owned by Jesus Christ. This letter is to all who belong to Christ Jesus who are living in the city of Philippi and to the church leaders and their helpers also.

Paolo e Timoteo, servi di Cristo Gesù, a tutti i santi in Cristo Gesù che sono in Filippi, con i vescovi e con i diaconi:

3 I thank God for you whenever I think of you.

Io ringrazio il mio Dio di tutto il ricordo che ho di voi;

4 I always have joy as I pray for all of you.

e sempre, in ogni mia preghiera per tutti voi, prego con gioia

5 I t is because you have told others the Good News from the first day you heard it until now.

a motivo della vostra partecipazione al vangelo, dal primo giorno fino ad ora.

6 I am sure that God Who began the good work in you will keep on working in you until the day Jesus Christ comes again.

E ho questa fiducia: che colui che ha cominciato in voi un’opera buona la condurrà a compimento fino al giorno di Cristo Gesù.

7 I t is right for me to feel like this about all of you. It is because you are very dear to me. While I was in prison and when I was proving that the Good News is true, you all shared God’s loving-favor with me.

Ed è giusto che io senta così di tutti voi, perché io vi ho nel cuore, voi tutti che, tanto nelle mie catene quanto nella difesa e nella conferma del vangelo, siete partecipi con me della grazia.

8 G od knows what I am saying. He knows how much I love you all with a love that comes from Jesus Christ.

Infatti Dio mi è testimone come io vi ami tutti con affetto profondo in Cristo Gesù.

9 A nd this is my prayer: I pray that your love will grow more and more. I pray that you will have better understanding and be wise in all things.

E prego che il vostro amore abbondi sempre più in conoscenza e in ogni discernimento,

10 I pray that you will know what is the very best. I pray that you will be true and without blame until the day Christ comes again.

perché possiate apprezzare le cose migliori, affinché siate limpidi e irreprensibili per il giorno di Cristo,

11 A nd I pray that you will be filled with the fruits of right living. These come from Jesus Christ, with honor and thanks to God. Paul’s Being in Prison Has Turned Out to Be a Good Thing

ricolmi di frutti di giustizia che si hanno per mezzo di Gesù Cristo, a gloria e lode di Dio. La prigionia di Paolo contribuisce alla causa del vangelo

12 C hristian brothers, I want you to know that what has happened to me has helped spread the Good News.

Desidero che voi sappiate, fratelli, che quanto mi è accaduto ha piuttosto contribuito al progresso del vangelo;

13 E veryone around here knows why I am in prison. It is because I preached about Jesus Christ. All the soldiers who work for the leader of the country know why I am here.

al punto che a tutti quelli del pretorio e a tutti gli altri è divenuto noto che sono in catene per Cristo;

14 B ecause of this, most of my Christian brothers have had their faith in the Lord made stronger. They have more power to preach the Word of God without fear.

e la maggioranza dei fratelli nel Signore, incoraggiati dalle mie catene, hanno avuto più ardire nell’annunciare senza paura la parola di Dio.

15 S ome are preaching because they are jealous and want to make trouble. Others are doing it for the right reason.

Vero è che alcuni predicano Cristo anche per invidia e per rivalità; ma ce ne sono anche altri che lo predicano di buon animo.

16 T hese do it because of love. They know that I am put here to prove the Good News is true.

Questi lo fanno per amore, sapendo che sono incaricato della difesa del vangelo;

17 T he others preach about Christ for what they get out of it. Their hearts are not right. They want to make me suffer while I am in prison.

ma quelli annunciano Cristo con spirito di rivalità, non sinceramente, pensando di provocarmi qualche afflizione nelle mie catene.

18 W hat difference does it make if they pretend or if they are true? I am happy, yes, and I will keep on being happy that Christ is preached.

Che importa? Comunque sia, con ipocrisia o con sincerità, Cristo è annunciato; di questo mi rallegro, e mi rallegrerò ancora;

19 B ecause of your prayers and the help the Holy Spirit gives me, all of this will turn out for good.

so infatti che ciò tornerà a mia salvezza, mediante le vostre suppliche e l’assistenza dello Spirito di Gesù Cristo,

20 I hope very much that I will have no reason to be ashamed. I hope to honor Christ with my body if it be by my life or by my death. I want to honor Him without fear, now and always.

secondo la mia viva attesa e la mia speranza di non aver da vergognarmi di nulla; ma che con ogni franchezza, ora come sempre, Cristo sarà glorificato nel mio corpo, sia con la vita, sia con la morte.

21 T o me, living means having Christ. To die means that I would have more of Him.

Infatti per me il vivere è Cristo e il morire guadagno.

22 I f I keep on living here in this body, it means that I can lead more people to Christ. I do not know which is better.

Ma se il vivere nella carne porta frutto all’opera mia, non saprei che cosa preferire.

23 T here is a strong pull from both sides. I have a desire to leave this world to be with Christ, which is much better.

Sono stretto da due lati: da una parte ho il desiderio di partire e di essere con Cristo, perché è molto meglio;

24 B ut it is more important for you that I stay.

ma, dall’altra, il mio rimanere nel corpo è più necessario per voi.

25 I am sure I will live to help you grow and be happy in your faith.

Ho questa ferma fiducia: che rimarrò e starò con tutti voi per il vostro progresso e per la vostra gioia nella fede,

26 T his will give you reason to give more thanks to Christ Jesus when I come to visit you again. Fight for the Faith

affinché, a motivo del mio ritorno in mezzo a voi, abbondi il vostro vanto in Cristo Gesù. Esortazione alla perseveranza

27 L ive your lives as the Good News of Christ says you should. If I come to you or not, I want to hear that you are standing true as one. I want to hear that you are working together as one, preaching the Good News.

Soltanto, comportatevi in modo degno del vangelo di Cristo, affinché, sia che io venga a vedervi sia che io resti lontano, senta dire di voi che state fermi in uno stesso spirito, combattendo insieme con un medesimo animo per la fede del vangelo,

28 D o not be afraid of those who hate you. Their hate for you proves they will be destroyed. It proves you have life from God that lasts forever.

per nulla spaventati dagli avversari. Questo per loro è una prova evidente di perdizione, ma per voi di salvezza; e ciò da parte di Dio.

29 Y ou are not only to put your trust in Him, but you are to suffer for Him also.

Perché vi è stata concessa la grazia, rispetto a Cristo, non soltanto di credere in lui, ma anche di soffrire per lui,

30 Y ou know what the fight is like. Now it is time for you to have a part in it as I have.

sostenendo voi pure la stessa lotta che mi avete veduto sostenere e nella quale ora sentite dire che io mi trovo.
