1 П о онова време Юда се отдели от братята си и се отби при един одоламец на име Ира.

¶ And it came to pass at that time that Judah went down from his brethren and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

2 Ю да, като видя там дъщерята на един ханаанец на име Суя, взе я и влезе при нея.

And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah, and he took her and went in unto her.

3 И тя зачена и роди син; и той го наименува Ир.

And she conceived and gave birth to a son, and he called his name Er.

4 И зачена пак и роди син; и тя го наименува Онан.

And she conceived again and gave birth to a son, and she called his name Onan.

5 П ак роди и друг син и го наименува Шела. А Юда беше в Ахдив, когато тя го роди.

And she yet again conceived and gave birth to a son and called his name Shelah. And he was at Chezib, when she gave birth to him.

6 С лед време Юда взе жена за първородния си Ир на име Тамар.

And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.

7 А Ир, Юдовият първороден, беше нечестив пред Господа; и Господ го уби.

And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD and the LORD slew him.

8 Т огава Юда каза на Онан: Влез при братовата си жена и извърши към нея длъжността на девер, и въздигни потомството на брат си.

Then Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife and marry her and raise up seed to thy brother.

9 Н о Онан знаеше, че потомството нямаше да бъде негово; затова, когато влизаше при братовата си жена, изливаше семето си на земята, за да не въздигне потомство на брат си.

And Onan knew that the seed would not be his, and it came to pass when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he corrupted it on the ground, to not give seed to his brother.

10 А това, което правеше, беше зло пред Господа; затова Той и него уби.

And the thing which he did displeased the LORD, and he slew him also.

11 Т огава Юда каза на снаха си Тамар: Живей като вдовица в бащиния си дом, докато отрасне син ми Шела. Защото си казваше: Да не би и той да умре като братята си. И така, Тамар отиде и живя в бащиния си дом.

Then Judah said to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, Remain a widow at thy father’s house until Shelah, my son, is grown; for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s house.

12 С лед дълго време Юдовата жена, дъщеря на Суя, умря; след като Юда се утеши, той и приятелят му, одоламецът Ира, отидоха при стригачите на овцете си в Тамна.

¶ And many days passed and Judah’s wife, the daughter of Shuah, died; and Judah was comforted and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah, the Adullamite.

13 И известиха на Тамар, като ѝ казаха: Ето, свекърът ти отива в Тамна, за да стриже овцете си.

And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold, thy father-in-law goes up to Timnath to shear his sheep.

14 Т огава тя съблече вдовишките си дрехи, покри се с покривалото си, обви се и седна при кръстопътя на Енаим, който е по пътя за Тамна; защото видя, че Шела порасна, а тя не му беше дадена за жена.

And she took off her widow’s garments and covered herself with a veil and wrapped herself and sat by the gate to the waters by the way to Timnath, for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.

15 А Юда, като я видя, помисли, че е блудница, защото беше покрила лицето си.

When Judah saw her, he thought her to be a harlot because she had covered her face.

16 И така, той свърна към нея на пътя и каза: Остави ме, моля, да вляза при тебе (защото не позна, че беше снаха му). И тя отговори: Какво ще ми дадеш, за да влезеш при мен?

And he turned unto her by the way and said, Come now, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee (for he knew not that she was his daughter-in-law). And she said, What wilt thou give me that thou may come in unto me?

17 А той каза: Ще ти изпратя яре от стадото. И тя отвърна: Даваш ли ми залог, докато го изпратиш?

And he said, I will send thee from the sheep a kid from the goats. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge until thou send it?

18 Т ой каза: Какъв залог да ти дам? И тя отговори: Печата си, ширита си и тоягата си, която е в ръката ти. И той ѝ ги даде. След това влезе при нея и тя зачена от него.

Then he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet and thy mantel and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave them to her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

19 П осле тя стана и си отиде, свали покривалото си и облече вдовишките си дрехи.

And she arose and went away and took off her veil and put on the garments of her widowhood.

20 А Юда изпрати ярето чрез ръката на приятеля си, одоламеца, за да вземе залога от ръката на жената, но той не я намери.

And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend, the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman’s hand; but he did not find her.

21 З атова попита хората от онова място: Къде е блудницата, която беше на пътя при Енаим? А те отговориха: Тук не е имало блудница.

Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the cult prostitute of the waters by the way side? And they said, There was no cult prostitute in this place.

22 И той се върна при Юда и каза: Не я намерих; още и хората от онова място казаха: Тук не е имало блудница.

And he returned to Judah and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said that there was no cult prostitute in this place.

23 Ю да каза: Нека си държи нещата, да не станем за присмех; ето, аз пратих това яре, но ти не я намери.

And Judah said, Let her take the things for herself lest we be shamed; behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.

24 О коло три месеца след това известиха на Юда: Снаха ти Тамар блудства; освен това е бременна от блудството. А Юда каза: Изведете я да се изгори.

¶ And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar, thy daughter-in-law, has played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth and let her be burnt.

25 А когато я извеждаха, тя изпрати до свекъра си да му кажат: От човека, чиито са тези неща, съм бременна. Каза още: Познай, моля, чии са тези неща - печатът, ширитът и тоягата.

When she was brought forth, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, By the man whose these are, am I with child; and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet and mantel and staff.

26 Ю да ги позна и каза: Тя е по-права от мене, тъй като не я дадох на сина си Шела. И не я позна вече.

Then Judah acknowledged them, and said, She has been more righteous than I because I did not give her to Shelah, my son. And he knew her again no more.

27 И когато дойде времето ѝ да роди, ето, в утробата ѝ имаше близнаци.

And it came to pass in the time of her travail that, behold, twins were in her womb.

28 К огато раждаше, едното простря ръка; и бабата взе, че върза червен конец на ръката му, и каза: Този излезе пръв.

And it came to pass when she travailed, that the one put out his hand, and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.

29 А като дръпна назад ръката си, ето, брат му излезе; и тя каза: Какъв пролом си направи ти? Затова го наименуваха Фарес.

And it came to pass as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out; and she said, Why hast thou brought this breach upon thee? Therefore his name was called Pharez.

30 П осле излезе брат му, който имаше червения конец на ръката си, и него наименуваха Зара.

And afterward his brother that had the scarlet thread upon his hand came out, and his name was called Zarah.
