1 И маше в земята Уз един човек на име Йов. Този човек беше непорочен и правдив, боеше се от Бога и се отдалечаваше от злото.

¶ There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God and departed from evil.

2 И му се родиха седем сина и три дъщери.

And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.

3 А добитъкът му беше седем хиляди овце, три хиляди камили, петстотин чифта волове и петстотин ослици; имаше и голямо множество слуги; така че този човек беше най-знатният от всичките жители на изток.

His substance was seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred she asses, and a very great store of servants, so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

4 С иновете му отиваха и правеха угощения в къщата на всеки от тях на неговия ден; и пращаха да повикат трите си сестри, за да ядат и пият с тях.

¶ And his sons went and had banquets in their houses, each one on his day, and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

5 И когато се изреждаха дните на угощаването, Йов пращаше за синовете си и ги освещаваше, като ставаше рано сутринта и принасяше всеизгаряния според броя на всички тях; защото Йов си казваше: Да не би синовете ми да са съгрешили и да са похулили Бога в сърцата си. Така правеше Йов постоянно. Оклеветяване на Йов от Сатана. Изпитания и дълготърпение на невинния праведник

And it was so, when the days of their banquets were over, that Job sent and sanctified them and rose up early in the morning and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all; for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned and blasphemed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

6 А един ден, като дойдоха Божиите синове да се представят пред Господа, между тях дойде и Сатана.

¶ Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

7 И Господ каза на Сатана: Откъде идваш? А Сатана Му отговори: От обикаляне земята и от ходене насам-натам по нея.

And the LORD said unto Satan, Where dost thou come from? Then Satan answered the LORD and said, From going to and fro in the earth and from walking up and down in it.

8 П осле Господ запита Сатана: Обърнал ли си внимание на слугата Ми Йов, че няма подобен на него на земята, човек непорочен и правдив, който се бои от Бога и се отдалечава от злото?

And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my slave Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God and has departed from evil?

9 А Сатана отговори на Господа: Дали без причина се бои Йов от Бога?

Then Satan answered the LORD and said, Does Job fear God for nothing?

10 Н е си ли обградил отвсякъде него и дома му, и всичко, което има? Благословил си делата на ръцете му и имотът му се е умножил на земята.

Hast thou not made a hedge about him and about his house and about all that he has on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands; therefore, his substance has increased in the land.

11 Н о сега простри ръка и се допри до всичко, което има, и той ще Те похули в лицето.

But put forth thy hand now and touch all that he has, and thou shalt see if he will not blaspheme thee to thy face.

12 Г оспод каза на Сатана: Ето, в твоята ръка е всичко, което има той; само на него да не сложиш ръка. Тогава Сатана излезе от присъствието на Господа.

And the LORD said to Satan, Behold, all that he has is in thy power; only upon himself do not put forth thy hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

13 И един ден, когато синовете и дъщерите му ядяха и пиеха вино в къщата на най-стария си брат,

¶ And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their brother, the firstborn;

14 д ойде вестител при Йов и каза: Докато оряха воловете и ослиците пасяха при тях,

and a messenger came unto Job and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them;

15 с авците нападнаха и ги откараха, още избиха слугите с острието на меча; и само аз се отървах да ти известя.

and the Sabeans fell upon them and took them away; they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell thee.

16 Д окато той още говореше, дойде и друг и каза: Огън от Бога падна от небето и изгори овцете и слугите, и ги погълна; и само аз се отървах да ти известя.

While he was yet speaking, another came who said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven and has burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell thee.

17 Д окато този още говореше, дойде и друг и каза: Халдейците образуваха три чети и се спуснаха върху камилите и ги откараха, още избиха слугите с острието на меча; и само аз се отървах да ти известя.

While he was yet speaking, another came and said, The Chaldeans made three bands and fell upon the camels and have carried them away and have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell thee.

18 Д окато този още говореше, дойде и друг и каза: Синовете ти и дъщерите ти, като ядяха и пиеха вино в къщата на най-стария си брат,

While he was yet speaking, there another came and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their brother, the firstborn;

19 д ойде силен вятър от пустинята и удари четирите ъгъла на къщата, и тя падна върху децата ти и те умряха; и само аз се отървах да ти известя.

and, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell thee.

20 Т огава Йов стана, раздра дрехата си и обръсна главата си, и като падна на земята, се поклони.

¶ Then Job arose and rent his mantle and shaved his head and fell down upon the ground and worshipped

21 И каза: Гол излязох от утробата на майка си; гол ще и да се върна там. Господ даде, Господ взе; да бъде благословено Господнето име.

and said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

22 В ъв всичко това Йов не съгреши, нито се изрази безумно спрямо Бога.

In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with folly.
