1 D entro do peixe, Jonas orou ao Senhor, o seu Deus.

Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the fish’s belly.

2 E disse: “Em meu desespero clamei ao Senhor, e ele me respondeu. Do ventre da morte gritei por socorro, e ouviste o meu clamor.

And he said: “I cried out to the Lord because of my affliction, And He answered me. “Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, And You heard my voice.

3 J ogaste-me nas profundezas, no coração dos mares; correntezas formavam um turbilhão ao meu redor; todas as tuas ondas e vagas passaram sobre mim.

For You cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the floods surrounded me; All Your billows and Your waves passed over me.

4 E u disse: Fui expulso da tua presença; contudo, olharei de novo para o teu santo templo.

Then I said, ‘I have been cast out of Your sight; Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.’

5 A s águas agitadas me envolveram, o abismo me cercou, as algas marinhas se enrolaram em minha cabeça.

The waters surrounded me, even to my soul; The deep closed around me; Weeds were wrapped around my head.

6 A fundei até chegar aos fundamentos dos montes; à terra embaixo, cujas trancas me aprisionaram para sempre. Mas tu trouxeste a minha vida de volta da sepultura, ó Senhor meu Deus!

I went down to the moorings of the mountains; The earth with its bars closed behind me forever; Yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O Lord, my God.

7 “ Quando a minha vida já se apagava, eu me lembrei de ti, Senhor, e a minha oração subiu a ti, ao teu santo templo.

“When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple.

8 “ Aqueles que acreditam em ídolos inúteis desprezam a misericórdia.

“Those who regard worthless idols Forsake their own Mercy.

9 M as eu, com um cântico de gratidão, oferecerei sacrifício a ti. O que eu prometi cumprirei totalmente. A salvação vem do Senhor ”.

But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.”

10 E o Senhor deu ordens ao peixe, e ele vomitou Jonas em terra firme.

So the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
