1 S aiu, pois, Abrão do Egito e foi para o Neguebe, com sua mulher e com tudo o que possuía, e Ló foi com ele.

Then Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, to the South.

2 A brão tinha enriquecido muito, tanto em gado como em prata e ouro.

Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

3 E le partiu do Neguebe em direção a Betel, indo de um lugar a outro, até que chegou ao lugar entre Betel e Ai onde já havia armado acampamento anteriormente

And he went on his journey from the South as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

4 e onde, pela primeira vez, tinha construído um altar. Ali Abrão invocou o nome do Senhor.

to the place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Abram called on the name of the Lord.

5 L ó, que acompanhava Abrão, também possuía rebanhos e tendas.

Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks and herds and tents.

6 E não podiam morar os dois juntos na mesma região, porque possuíam tantos bens que a terra não podia sustentá-los.

Now the land was not able to support them, that they might dwell together, for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together.

7 P or isso surgiu uma desavença entre os pastores dos rebanhos de Abrão e os de Ló. Nessa época os cananeus e os ferezeus habitavam aquela terra.

And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. The Canaanites and the Perizzites then dwelt in the land.

8 E ntão Abrão disse a Ló: “Não haja desavença entre mim e você, ou entre os seus pastores e os meus; afinal somos irmãos!

So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brethren.

9 A í está a terra inteira diante de você. Vamos separar-nos. Se você for para a esquerda, irei para a direita; se for para a direita, irei para a esquerda”.

Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.”

10 O lhou então Ló e viu todo o vale do Jordão, todo ele bem irrigado, até Zoar; era como o jardim do Senhor, como a terra do Egito. Isto se deu antes de o Senhor destruir Sodoma e Gomorra.

And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar.

11 L ó escolheu todo o vale do Jordão e partiu em direção ao leste. Assim os dois se separaram:

Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other.

12 A brão ficou na terra de Canaã, mas Ló mudou seu acampamento para um lugar próximo a Sodoma, entre as cidades do vale.

Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom.

13 O ra, os homens de Sodoma eram extremamente perversos e pecadores contra o Senhor. A Promessa de Deus a Abrão

But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the Lord.

14 D isse o Senhor a Abrão, depois que Ló separou-se dele: “De onde você está, olhe para o norte, para o sul, para o leste e para o oeste:

And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward;

15 t oda a terra que você está vendo darei a você e à sua descendência para sempre.

for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.

16 T ornarei a sua descendência tão numerosa como o pó da terra. Se for possível contar o pó da terra, também se poderá contar a sua descendência.

And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered.

17 P ercorra esta terra de alto a baixo, de um lado a outro, porque eu a darei a você”.

Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.”

18 E ntão Abrão mudou seu acampamento e passou a viver próximo aos carvalhos de Manre, em Hebrom, onde construiu um altar dedicado ao Senhor.

Then Abram moved his tent, and went and dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to the Lord.
