1 A bram subió desde Egipto al Neguev (región del sur), él y su mujer con todo lo que poseía; y con él iba Lot.

Then Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, to the South.

2 A bram era muy rico en ganado, en plata y en oro.

Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.

3 Y anduvo en sus jornadas desde el Neguev hasta Betel (Casa de Dios), al lugar donde su tienda había estado al principio, entre Betel y Hai,

And he went on his journey from the South as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

4 a l lugar del altar que antes había hecho allí. Allí Abram invocó el nombre del Señor. Separación de Abram y Lot

to the place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Abram called on the name of the Lord.

5 T ambién Lot, que andaba con Abram, tenía ovejas, vacas y tiendas.

Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks and herds and tents.

6 P ero la tierra no podía sostenerlos para que habitaran juntos, porque sus posesiones eran tantas que ya no podían habitar juntos.

Now the land was not able to support them, that they might dwell together, for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together.

7 H ubo, pues, problema entre los pastores del ganado de Abram y los pastores del ganado de Lot. Los Cananeos y los Ferezeos habitaban entonces en aquella tierra.

And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. The Canaanites and the Perizzites then dwelt in the land.

8 A sí que Abram dijo a Lot: “Te ruego que no haya problema entre nosotros, ni entre mis pastores y tus pastores, porque somos hermanos.

So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brethren.

9 ¿ No está toda la tierra delante de ti? Te ruego que te separes de mí. Si vas a la izquierda, yo iré a la derecha; y si a la derecha, yo iré a la izquierda.”

Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.”

10 Y alzó Lot los ojos y vio todo el valle del Jordán, el cual estaba bien regado por todas partes ( esto fue antes de que el Señor destruyera a Sodoma y Gomorra ) como el huerto del Señor, como la tierra de Egipto rumbo a Zoar.

And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar.

11 L ot escogió para sí todo el Valle del Jordán, y viajó Lot hacia el oriente. Así se separaron el uno del otro.

Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other.

12 A bram se estableció en la tierra de Canaán, en tanto que Lot se estableció en las ciudades del valle, y fue poniendo sus tiendas hasta Sodoma.

Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom.

13 P ero los hombres de Sodoma eran malos y pecadores en gran manera contra el Señor. Promesa de Dios a Abram

But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the Lord.

14 Y el Señor dijo a Abram después que Lot se había separado de él: “Alza ahora los ojos y mira desde el lugar donde estás hacia el norte, el sur, el oriente y el occidente,

And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward;

15 p ues toda la tierra que ves te la daré a ti y a tu descendencia para siempre.

for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.

16 H aré tu descendencia como el polvo de la tierra; de manera que si alguien puede contar el polvo de la tierra, también tu descendencia podrá contarse.

And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered.

17 L evántate, recorre la tierra a lo largo y a lo ancho de ella, porque a ti te la daré.”

Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you.”

18 E ntonces Abram levantó su tienda, y fue y habitó en el encinar de Mamre, que está en Hebrón, y allí edificó un altar al Señor.

Then Abram moved his tent, and went and dwelt by the terebinth trees of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to the Lord.
