1 P ero en mí mismo decidí esto: no ir otra vez a ustedes con tristeza.

But I determined this within myself, that I would not come again to you in sorrow.

2 P orque si yo les causo tristeza, ¿quién será el que me alegre sino aquél a quien yo entristecí?

For if I make you sorrowful, then who is he who makes me glad but the one who is made sorrowful by me? Forgive the Offender

3 Y esto mismo les escribí, para que cuando yo llegue no tenga tristeza de parte de los que debieran alegrarme, confiando en todos ustedes de que mi gozo sea el mismo de todos ustedes.

And I wrote this very thing to you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow over those from whom I ought to have joy, having confidence in you all that my joy is the joy of you all.

4 P ues por la mucha aflicción y angustia de corazón les escribí con muchas lágrimas, no para entristecerlos, sino para que conozcan el amor que tengo especialmente por ustedes.

For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you, with many tears, not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have so abundantly for you.

5 P ero si alguien ha causado tristeza, no me la ha causado a mí, sino hasta cierto punto, para no exagerar, a todos ustedes.

But if anyone has caused grief, he has not grieved me, but all of you to some extent—not to be too severe.

6 E s suficiente para tal persona este castigo que le fue impuesto por la mayoría;

This punishment which was inflicted by the majority is sufficient for such a man,

7 a sí que, por el contrario, ustedes más bien debieran perdonar lo y consolar lo, no sea que en alguna manera éste sea abrumado por tanta tristeza.

so that, on the contrary, you ought rather to forgive and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one be swallowed up with too much sorrow.

8 P or lo cual les ruego que reafirmen su amor hacia él.

Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love to him.

9 P ues también con este fin les escribí, para ponerlos a prueba y ver si son obedientes en todo.

For to this end I also wrote, that I might put you to the test, whether you are obedient in all things.

10 P ero a quien perdonen algo, yo también lo perdono. Porque en verdad, lo que yo he perdonado, si algo he perdonado, lo hice por ustedes en presencia de Cristo (el Mesías),

Now whom you forgive anything, I also forgive. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ,

11 p ara que Satanás no tome ventaja sobre nosotros, pues no ignoramos sus planes. De Troas a Macedonia

lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices. Triumph in Christ

12 C uando llegué a Troas para predicar el evangelio de Cristo, y se me abrió una puerta en el Señor,

Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened to me by the Lord,

13 n o tuve reposo en mi espíritu al no encontrar a Tito, mi hermano. Despidiéndome, pues, de ellos, salí para Macedonia. Triunfantes en Cristo

I had no rest in my spirit, because I did not find Titus my brother; but taking my leave of them, I departed for Macedonia.

14 P ero gracias a Dios, que en Cristo siempre nos lleva en triunfo, y que por medio de nosotros manifiesta la fragancia de Su conocimiento en todo lugar.

Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.

15 P orque fragante aroma de Cristo somos para Dios entre los que se salvan y entre los que se pierden.

For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.

16 P ara unos, olor de muerte para muerte, y para otros, olor de vida para vida. Y para estas cosas ¿quién está capacitado ? (¿quién es suficiente?)

To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?

17 P ues no somos como muchos, que comercian (corrompen) la palabra de Dios, sino que con sinceridad, como de parte de Dios, hablamos en Cristo delante de Dios.

For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God; but as of sincerity, but as from God, we speak in the sight of God in Christ.
