1 Y una mujer de las mujeres de los hijos de los profetas clamó a Eliseo, diciendo: “Su siervo, mi marido, ha muerto, y usted sabe que su siervo temía al Señor; y ha venido el acreedor a tomar a mis dos hijos para esclavos suyos.”

A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.”

2 Y Eliseo le dijo: “¿Qué puedo hacer por ti? Dime qué tienes en casa.” Y ella respondió: “Su sierva no tiene en casa más que una vasija de aceite.”

So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”

3 E ntonces Eliseo le dijo: “Ve, pide vasijas prestadas por todas partes de todos tus vecinos, vasijas vacías; no pidas pocas.

Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few.

4 L uego entra y cierra la puerta detrás de ti y de tus hijos y echas el aceite en todas estas vasijas, poniendo aparte las que estén llenas.”

And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.”

5 Y ella se fue de su lado, y cerró la puerta tras sí y de sus hijos; y ellos traían las vasijas y ella echaba el aceite.

So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out.

6 C uando las vasijas estuvieron llenas, ella dijo a un hijo suyo: “Tráeme otra vasija.” Y él le dijo: “No hay más vasijas.” Y cesó el aceite.

Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “ There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased.

7 E ntonces ella fue y se lo contó al hombre de Dios. Y él le dijo: “Ve, vende el aceite y paga tu deuda, y tú y tus hijos pueden vivir de lo que quede.” Eliseo y la Sunamita

Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.” Elisha Raises the Shunammite’s Son

8 U n día pasaba Eliseo por Sunem, donde había una mujer distinguida, y ella lo persuadió a que comiera. Y sucedía que siempre que pasaba, entraba allí a comer.

Now it happened one day that Elisha went to Shunem, where there was a notable woman, and she persuaded him to eat some food. So it was, as often as he passed by, he would turn in there to eat some food.

9 Y ella dijo a su marido: “Ahora entiendo que éste que siempre pasa por nuestra casa, es un santo hombre de Dios.

And she said to her husband, “Look now, I know that this is a holy man of God, who passes by us regularly.

10 T e ruego que hagamos un pequeño aposento alto, con paredes, y pongamos allí para él una cama, una mesa, una silla y un candelero; y cuando venga a nosotros, se podrá retirar allí.”

Please, let us make a small upper room on the wall; and let us put a bed for him there, and a table and a chair and a lampstand; so it will be, whenever he comes to us, he can turn in there.”

11 Y un día que Eliseo vino por allí, se retiró al aposento alto y allí se acostó.

And it happened one day that he came there, and he turned in to the upper room and lay down there.

12 D espués dijo a Giezi su criado: “Llama a esta Sunamita.” Y cuando la llamó, ella se presentó delante de él.

Then he said to Gehazi his servant, “Call this Shunammite woman.” When he had called her, she stood before him.

13 E ntonces Eliseo le dijo a Giezi: “Dile ahora: ‘Ya que te has preocupado por nosotros con todo este cuidado, ¿qué puedo hacer por ti? ¿Quieres que hable por ti al rey o al jefe del ejército?’” Y ella respondió: “Yo vivo en medio de mi pueblo.”

And he said to him, “Say now to her, ‘Look, you have been concerned for us with all this care. What can I do for you? Do you want me to speak on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?’” She answered, “I dwell among my own people.”

14 E liseo entonces preguntó: “¿Qué, pues, se puede hacer por ella?” Y Giezi respondió: “En verdad ella no tiene ningún hijo y su marido es viejo.”

So he said, “What then is to be done for her?” And Gehazi answered, “Actually, she has no son, and her husband is old.”

15 Y Eliseo dijo: “Llámala.” Cuando él la llamó, ella se detuvo a la entrada.

So he said, “Call her.” When he had called her, she stood in the doorway.

16 E ntonces Eliseo le dijo: “Por este tiempo, el año que viene, abrazarás un hijo.” Y ella dijo: “No, señor mío, hombre de Dios, no engañe usted a su sierva.”

Then he said, “About this time next year you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!”

17 P ero la mujer concibió y dio a luz un hijo al año siguiente en el tiempo que Eliseo le había dicho.

But the woman conceived, and bore a son when the appointed time had come, of which Elisha had told her.

18 C uando el niño creció, llegó el día en que salió al campo adonde estaba su padre con los segadores,

And the child grew. Now it happened one day that he went out to his father, to the reapers.

19 y dijo a su padre: “ ¡Ay, mi cabeza, mi cabeza!” Y el padre dijo a un criado: “Llévalo a su madre.”

And he said to his father, “My head, my head!” So he said to a servant, “Carry him to his mother.”

20 Y tomándolo, el criado lo llevó a su madre, y el niño estuvo sentado en sus rodillas hasta el mediodía, y murió.

When he had taken him and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.

21 E ntonces ella subió y lo puso sobre la cama del hombre de Dios, cerró la puerta, y salió.

And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, shut the door upon him, and went out.

22 L uego llamó a su marido y le dijo: “Te ruego que me envíes uno de los criados y una de las asnas, para que yo vaya corriendo al hombre de Dios y regrese.”

Then she called to her husband, and said, “Please send me one of the young men and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of God and come back.”

23 Y él dijo: “¿Por qué vas hoy a él? No es luna nueva ni día de reposo.” Y ella respondió: “Quédate en paz.”

So he said, “Why are you going to him today? It is neither the New Moon nor the Sabbath.” And she said, “ It is well.”

24 E ntonces ella aparejó el asna y dijo a su criado: “Arrea y anda; no detengas el paso por mí a menos que yo te lo diga.”

Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, “Drive, and go forward; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you.”

25 Y ella fue y llegó al hombre de Dios en el Monte Carmelo. Cuando el hombre de Dios la vio a lo lejos, dijo a Giezi su criado: “Mira, allá viene la Sunamita.

And so she departed, and went to the man of God at Mount Carmel. So it was, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to his servant Gehazi, “Look, the Shunammite woman!

26 T e ruego que corras ahora a su encuentro y le digas: ‘¿Te va bien a ti? ¿Le va bien a tu marido? ¿Le va bien al niño?’” Y ella respondió: “ Estamos bien.”

Please run now to meet her, and say to her, ‘ Is it well with you? Is it well with your husband? Is it well with the child?’” And she answered, “ It is well.”

27 P ero cuando ella llegó al monte, al hombre de Dios, se abrazó de sus pies. Y Giezi se acercó para apartarla, pero el hombre de Dios dijo: “Déjala, porque su alma está angustiada y el Señor me lo ha ocultado y no me lo ha revelado.”

Now when she came to the man of God at the hill, she caught him by the feet, but Gehazi came near to push her away. But the man of God said, “Let her alone; for her soul is in deep distress, and the Lord has hidden it from me, and has not told me.”

28 E ntonces ella dijo: “¿Acaso pedí un hijo a mi señor? ¿No dije: ‘No me engañe usted ?’”

So she said, “Did I ask a son of my lord? Did I not say, ‘Do not deceive me’?”

29 E ntonces Eliseo dijo a Giezi: “Prepárate, toma mi báculo en tu mano, y vete. Si encuentras a alguien, no lo saludes, y si alguien te saluda, no le respondas, y pon mi báculo sobre el rostro del niño.”

Then he said to Gehazi, “Get yourself ready, and take my staff in your hand, and be on your way. If you meet anyone, do not greet him; and if anyone greets you, do not answer him; but lay my staff on the face of the child.”

30 Y la madre del niño dijo: “Vive el Señor y vive su alma, que no me apartaré de usted.” Entonces Eliseo se levantó y la siguió.

And the mother of the child said, “ As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So he arose and followed her.

31 Y Giezi se adelantó a ellos y puso el báculo sobre el rostro del niño, pero no hubo voz ni reacción. Así que volvió para encontrar a Eliseo, y le dijo: “El niño no ha despertado.”

Now Gehazi went on ahead of them, and laid the staff on the face of the child; but there was neither voice nor hearing. Therefore he went back to meet him, and told him, saying, “The child has not awakened.”

32 C uando Eliseo entró en la casa, el niño ya estaba muerto, tendido sobre su cama.

When Elisha came into the house, there was the child, lying dead on his bed.

33 Y entrando, cerró la puerta tras ambos y oró al Señor.

He went in therefore, shut the door behind the two of them, and prayed to the Lord.

34 E ntonces subió y se acostó sobre el niño, y puso la boca sobre su boca, los ojos sobre sus ojos y las manos sobre sus manos, y se tendió sobre él; y la carne del niño entró en calor.

And he went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands; and he stretched himself out on the child, and the flesh of the child became warm.

35 E ntonces Eliseo volvió y caminó por la casa de un lado para otro, y subió y se tendió sobre él; y el niño estornudó siete veces y abrió sus ojos.

He returned and walked back and forth in the house, and again went up and stretched himself out on him; then the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.

36 E liseo llamó a Giezi y le dijo: “Llama a la Sunamita.” Y él la llamó. Cuando ella vino a Eliseo, él le dijo: “Toma a tu hijo.”

And he called Gehazi and said, “Call this Shunammite woman.” So he called her. And when she came in to him, he said, “Pick up your son.”

37 E ntonces ella entró, cayó a sus pies y se postró en tierra, y tomando a su hijo, salió. Otros Milagros de Eliseo

So she went in, fell at his feet, and bowed to the ground; then she picked up her son and went out. Elisha Purifies the Pot of Stew

38 C uando Eliseo regresó a Gilgal, había hambre en la tierra. Estando sentados los hijos de los profetas delante de él, dijo a su criado: “Pon la olla grande y prepara un potaje para los hijos de los profetas.”

And Elisha returned to Gilgal, and there was a famine in the land. Now the sons of the prophets were sitting before him; and he said to his servant, “Put on the large pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets.”

39 E ntonces uno de ellos salió al campo a recoger hierbas, y encontró una viña silvestre y de ella llenó su manto de calabazas silvestres, y vino y las cortó en pedazos en la olla de potaje, porque no sabía lo que eran.

So one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered from it a lapful of wild gourds, and came and sliced them into the pot of stew, though they did not know what they were.

40 Y lo sirvieron para que los hombres comieran. Y sucedió que cuando comían el potaje, clamaron y dijeron: “¡Oh hombre de Dios, hay muerte en la olla!” Y no pudieron comer.

Then they served it to the men to eat. Now it happened, as they were eating the stew, that they cried out and said, “Man of God, there is death in the pot!” And they could not eat it.

41 P ero Eliseo les dijo: “Tráiganme harina.” Y la echó en la olla, y dijo: “Sírvanlo a la gente para que coman.” Y ya no había nada malo en la olla.

So he said, “Then bring some flour.” And he put it into the pot, and said, “Serve it to the people, that they may eat.” And there was nothing harmful in the pot. Elisha Feeds One Hundred Men

42 Y vino un hombre de Baal Salisa y trajo al hombre de Dios panes de primicias, veinte panes de cebada y espigas de grano nuevo en su bolsa. Y él dijo: “Dá selos a la gente para que coman.”

Then a man came from Baal Shalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley bread, and newly ripened grain in his knapsack. And he said, “Give it to the people, that they may eat.”

43 S u sirviente le dijo: “¿Cómo pondré esto delante de cien hombres?” Pero él respondió: “Dá selos a la gente para que coman, porque así dice el Señor: ‘Comerán y sobrará.’”

But his servant said, “What? Shall I set this before one hundred men?” He said again, “Give it to the people, that they may eat; for thus says the Lord: ‘They shall eat and have some left over.’”

44 Y lo puso delante de ellos y comieron, y sobró conforme a la palabra del Señor.

So he set it before them; and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord.
