1 D espués Moisés y Aarón fueron y dijeron a Faraón: “Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: ‘Deja ir a Mi pueblo para que Me celebre una fiesta en el desierto.’”

Afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘Let My people go, that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.’”

2 P ero Faraón dijo: “¿Quién es el Señor para que yo escuche Su voz y deje ir a Israel? No conozco al Señor, y además, no dejaré ir a Israel.”

And Pharaoh said, “Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, nor will I let Israel go.”

3 “ El Dios de los Hebreos nos ha salido al encuentro,” contestaron ellos. “Déjenos ir, le rogamos, camino de tres días al desierto para ofrecer sacrificios al Señor nuestro Dios, no sea que venga sobre nosotros con pestilencia o con espada.”

So they said, “The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please, let us go three days’ journey into the desert and sacrifice to the Lord our God, lest He fall upon us with pestilence or with the sword.”

4 P ero el rey de Egipto les dijo: “Moisés y Aarón, ¿por qué apartan al pueblo de sus trabajos? Vuelvan a sus labores (cargas).

Then the king of Egypt said to them, “Moses and Aaron, why do you take the people from their work? Get back to your labor.”

5 M iren,” añadió Faraón, “el pueblo de la tierra es mucho ahora, ¡y ustedes quieren que ellos cesen en sus labores!” Orden Despótica de Faraón

And Pharaoh said, “Look, the people of the land are many now, and you make them rest from their labor!”

6 A quel mismo día, Faraón dio órdenes a los capataces que estaban sobre el pueblo, y a sus jefes y les dijo:

So the same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people and their officers, saying,

7 “ Ya no darán, como antes, paja al pueblo para hacer ladrillos. Que vayan ellos y recojan paja por sí mismos.

“You shall no longer give the people straw to make brick as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.

8 P ero exigirán de ellos la misma cantidad de ladrillos que hacían antes. No la disminuyan en lo más mínimo. Porque son perezosos, por eso claman y dicen: ‘Déjanos ir a ofrecer sacrificios a nuestro Dios.’

And you shall lay on them the quota of bricks which they made before. You shall not reduce it. For they are idle; therefore they cry out, saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’

9 R ecárguese el trabajo sobre estos hombres, para que estén ocupados en él y no presten atención a palabras falsas.”

Let more work be laid on the men, that they may labor in it, and let them not regard false words.”

10 S alieron, pues, los capataces del pueblo y sus jefes y hablaron al pueblo y dijeron: “Así dice Faraón: ‘No les daré paja.

And the taskmasters of the people and their officers went out and spoke to the people, saying, “Thus says Pharaoh: ‘I will not give you straw.

11 V ayan ustedes mismos y recojan paja donde la hallen. Pero su tarea no será disminuida en lo más mínimo.’”

Go, get yourselves straw where you can find it; yet none of your work will be reduced.’”

12 E ntonces el pueblo se dispersó por toda la tierra de Egipto para recoger rastrojos en lugar de paja.

So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw.

13 L os capataces los apremiaban, diciendo: “Acaben sus tareas, su tarea diaria, como cuando tenían (había) paja.”

And the taskmasters forced them to hurry, saying, “Fulfill your work, your daily quota, as when there was straw.”

14 Y azotaban a los jefes de los Israelitas que los capataces de Faraón habían puesto sobre ellos, diciéndoles: “¿Por qué no han terminado, ni ayer ni hoy, la cantidad de ladrillos requerida como antes?” Queja de los Jefes Hebreos

Also the officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten and were asked, “Why have you not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and today, as before?”

15 E ntonces los jefes de los Israelitas fueron y clamaron a Faraón y dijeron: “¿Por qué trata usted así a sus siervos?

Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried out to Pharaoh, saying, “Why are you dealing thus with your servants?

16 N o se da paja a sus siervos, sin embargo, siguen diciéndonos: ‘Hagan ladrillos.’ Y además sus siervos son azotados. Pero la culpa es de su pueblo.”

There is no straw given to your servants, and they say to us, ‘Make brick!’ And indeed your servants are beaten, but the fault is in your own people.”

17 P ero él contestó: “Son perezosos, muy perezosos. Por eso dicen: ‘Déjanos ir a ofrecer sacrificios al Señor.’

But he said, “You are idle! Idle! Therefore you say, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord.’

18 A hora pues, vayan y trabajen. Pero no se les dará paja, sin embargo, deben entregar la misma cantidad de ladrillos.”

Therefore go now and work; for no straw shall be given you, yet you shall deliver the quota of bricks.”

19 L os jefes de los Israelitas se dieron cuenta de que estaban en dificultades, cuando les dijeron: “No deben disminuir su cantidad diaria de ladrillos.”

And the officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in trouble after it was said, “You shall not reduce any bricks from your daily quota.”

20 A l salir de la presencia de Faraón, se encontraron con Moisés y Aarón, que los estaban esperando,

Then, as they came out from Pharaoh, they met Moses and Aaron who stood there to meet them.

21 y les dijeron: “Mire el Señor sobre ustedes y los juzgue, pues nos han hecho odiosos ante los ojos de Faraón y ante los ojos de sus siervos, poniéndo les una espada en la mano para que nos maten.” Oración de Moisés

And they said to them, “Let the Lord look on you and judge, because you have made us abhorrent in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.” Israel’s Deliverance Assured

22 E ntonces Moisés se volvió al Señor, y dijo: “Oh Señor, ¿por qué has hecho mal a este pueblo? ¿Por qué me enviaste ?

So Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Lord, why have You brought trouble on this people? Why is it You have sent me?

23 P ues desde que vine a Faraón a hablar en Tu nombre, él ha hecho mal a este pueblo, y Tú no has hecho nada por librar a Tu pueblo.”

For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done evil to this people; neither have You delivered Your people at all.”
