1 Y aconteció que un día de reposo, Jesús entró para comer en casa de uno de los principales de los Fariseos, y ellos Lo estaban observando cuidadosamente.

Now it happened, as He went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath, that they watched Him closely.

2 Y allí, frente a El, estaba un hombre hidrópico.

And behold, there was a certain man before Him who had dropsy.

3 D irigiéndose Jesús a los intérpretes de la Ley (expertos en la Ley de Moisés) y a los Fariseos, les dijo: “¿Es lícito sanar en el día de reposo, o no ?”

And Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”

4 P ero ellos guardaron silencio. Y El, tomando al hombre de la mano, lo sanó y lo despidió.

But they kept silent. And He took him and healed him, and let him go.

5 Y a ellos les dijo: “¿A quién de ustedes, si se le cae un hijo o un buey en un hoyo en día de reposo, no lo saca inmediatamente ?”

Then He answered them, saying, “Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?”

6 Y no Le pudieron responder a esto. Lección sobre la Humildad

And they could not answer Him regarding these things. Take the Lowly Place

7 J esús comenzó a referir una parábola a los invitados, cuando advirtió cómo escogían los lugares de honor en la mesa:

So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the best places, saying to them:

8 “ Cuando seas invitado por alguien a un banquete de bodas, no tomes el lugar de honor, no sea que él haya invitado a otro más distinguido que tú,

“When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the best place, lest one more honorable than you be invited by him;

9 y viniendo el que te invitó a ti y a él, te diga: ‘Dale el lugar a éste;’ y entonces, avergonzado, tengas que irte al último lugar.

and he who invited you and him come and say to you, ‘Give place to this man,’ and then you begin with shame to take the lowest place.

10 S ino que cuando seas invitado, ve y siéntate en el último lugar, para que cuando llegue el que te invitó, te diga: ‘Amigo, ven más adelante;’ entonces serás honrado delante de todos los que se sientan a la mesa contigo.

But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you.

11 P orque todo el que se engrandece, será humillado; y el que se humille será engrandecido.”

For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

12 J esús dijo también al que Lo había convidado: “Cuando ofrezcas una comida o una cena, no llames a tus amigos, ni a tus hermanos, ni a tus parientes, ni a tus vecinos ricos, no sea que ellos a su vez también te conviden y tengas ya tu recompensa.

Then He also said to him who invited Him, “When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid.

13 A ntes bien, cuando ofrezcas un banquete, llama a pobres, mancos, cojos, ciegos,

But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind.

14 y serás bienaventurado (feliz), ya que ellos no tienen para recompensarte; pues tú serás recompensado en la resurrección de los justos.” Parábola de la Gran Cena

And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just.” The Parable of the Great Supper

15 C uando uno de los que estaban sentados con El a la mesa oyó esto, Le dijo: “¡Bienaventurado (Feliz) todo el que coma pan en el reino de Dios!”

Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, “Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!”

16 P ero Jesús le dijo: “Cierto hombre dio una gran cena, e invitó a muchos.

Then He said to him, “A certain man gave a great supper and invited many,

17 A la hora de la cena envió a su siervo a decir a los que habían sido invitados: ‘Vengan, porque ya todo está preparado.’

and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, ‘Come, for all things are now ready.’

18 P ero todos a una comenzaron a excusarse. El primero le dijo: ‘He comprado un terreno y necesito ir a verlo; te ruego que me excuses.’

But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.’

19 O tro dijo: ‘He comprado cinco yuntas de bueyes y voy a probarlos; te ruego que me excuses.’

And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.’

20 T ambién otro dijo: ‘Me he casado, y por eso no puedo ir.’

Still another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’

21 C uando el siervo regresó, informó de todo esto a su señor. Entonces, enojado el dueño de la casa, dijo a su siervo: ‘Sal enseguida por las calles y callejones de la ciudad, y trae acá a los pobres, los mancos, los ciegos y los cojos.’

So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.’

22 Y el siervo dijo: ‘Señor, se ha hecho lo que usted ordenó, y todavía hay lugar.’

And the servant said, ‘Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.’

23 E ntonces el señor dijo al siervo: ‘Sal a los caminos y por los cercados, y oblíga los a entrar para que se llene mi casa.

Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

24 P orque les digo que ninguno de aquellos hombres que fueron invitados probará mi cena.’” El Costo del Discipulado

For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.’” Leaving All to Follow Christ

25 G randes multitudes acompañaban a Jesús; y El, volviéndose, les dijo:

Now great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them,

26 “ Si alguien viene a Mí, y no aborrece a su padre y madre, a su mujer e hijos, a sus hermanos y hermanas, y aun hasta su propia vida, no puede ser Mi discípulo.

“If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

27 E l que no carga su cruz y Me sigue, no puede ser Mi discípulo.

And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

28 P orque, ¿quién de ustedes, deseando edificar una torre, no se sienta primero y calcula el costo, para ver si tiene lo suficiente para terminarla?

For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it —

29 N o sea que cuando haya echado los cimientos y no pueda terminar, todos los que lo vean comiencen a burlarse de él,

lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,

30 d iciendo: ‘Este hombre comenzó a edificar y no pudo terminar.’

saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’?

31 ¿ O qué rey, cuando sale al encuentro de otro rey para la batalla, no se sienta primero y delibera si con 10, 000 hombres es bastante fuerte para enfrentarse al que viene contra él con 20, 000 ?

Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?

32 Y si no, cuando el otro todavía está lejos, le envía una delegación y pide condiciones de paz.

Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace.

33 A sí pues, cualquiera de ustedes que no renuncie a todas sus posesiones, no puede ser Mi discípulo.

So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple. Tasteless Salt Is Worthless

34 “ Por tanto, buena es la sal, pero si aún la sal ha perdido su sabor, ¿con qué será sazonada ?

“Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned?

35 N o es útil ni para la tierra ni para el montón de abono; la arrojan fuera. El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga.”

It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
