Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Thankfulness and Prayer

3 D oy gracias a mi Dios siempre que me acuerdo de ustedes.

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,

4 P ido siempre con gozo en cada una de mis oraciones por todos ustedes,

always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy,

5 p or su participación en el evangelio (en anunciar las buenas nuevas) desde el primer día hasta ahora.

for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now,

6 E stoy convencido precisamente de esto: que el que comenzó en ustedes la buena obra, la perfeccionará hasta el día de Cristo Jesús.

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

7 E s justo que yo sienta esto acerca de todos ustedes, porque los llevo en el corazón, pues tanto en mis prisiones (mis cadenas) como en la defensa y confirmación del evangelio, todos ustedes son participantes conmigo de la gracia.

just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.

8 P orque Dios me es testigo de cuánto los añoro a todos con el entrañable amor de Cristo Jesús.

For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ.

9 Y esto pido en oración: que el amor de ustedes abunde aún más y más en conocimiento verdadero y en todo discernimiento,

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment,

10 a fin de que escojan (aprueben) lo mejor, para que sean puros e irreprensibles para el día de Cristo;

that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,

11 l lenos del fruto de justicia que es por medio de Jesucristo, para la gloria y alabanza de Dios. La Vida es Cristo

being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. Christ Is Preached

12 Q uiero que sepan, hermanos, que las circunstancias en que me he visto, han redundado en un mayor progreso del evangelio,

But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel,

13 d e tal manera que mis prisiones por la causa de Cristo se han hecho notorias en toda la guardia pretoriana (en todo el palacio del gobernador) y a todos los demás.

so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ;

14 L a mayoría de los hermanos, confiando en el Señor por causa de mis prisiones, tienen mucho más valor para hablar la palabra de Dios sin temor.

and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

15 A lgunos, a la verdad, predican a Cristo (el Mesías) aun por envidia y rivalidad, pero también otros lo hacen de buena voluntad.

Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill:

16 E stos lo hacen por amor, sabiendo que he sido designado para la defensa del evangelio.

The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains;

17 A quéllos proclaman a Cristo por ambición personal, no con sinceridad, pensando causarme angustia en mis prisiones.

but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel.

18 ¿ Entonces qué? Que de todas maneras, ya sea fingidamente o en verdad, Cristo es proclamado; y en esto me regocijo, sí, y me regocijaré.

What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice. To Live Is Christ

19 P orque sé que esto resultará en mi liberación mediante las oraciones (las súplicas) de ustedes y la provisión del Espíritu de Jesucristo,

For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

20 c onforme a mi anhelo y esperanza de que en nada seré avergonzado, sino que con toda confianza, aun ahora, como siempre, Cristo será exaltado en mi cuerpo, ya sea por vida o por muerte.

according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.

21 P ues para mí, el vivir es Cristo y el morir es ganancia.

For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

22 P ero si el vivir en la carne, esto significa para mí una labor fructífera, entonces, no sé cuál escoger.

But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell.

23 P orque de ambos lados me siento apremiado, teniendo el deseo de partir y estar con Cristo, pues eso es mucho mejor.

For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.

24 S in embargo, continuar en la carne es más necesario por causa de ustedes.

Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.

25 Y convencido de esto, sé que permaneceré y continuaré con todos ustedes para su progreso y gozo en la fe,

And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith,

26 p ara que su profunda satisfacción por mí abunde en Cristo Jesús a causa de mi visita otra vez a ustedes. Luchando Unánimes por la Fe

that your rejoicing for me may be more abundant in Jesus Christ by my coming to you again. Striving and Suffering for Christ

27 S olamente compórtense de una manera digna del evangelio de Cristo, de modo que ya sea que vaya a verlos, o que permanezca ausente, pueda oír que ustedes están firmes en un mismo espíritu, luchando unánimes por la fe del evangelio.

Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,

28 D e ninguna manera estén atemorizados por sus adversarios, lo cual es señal de perdición para ellos, pero de salvación para ustedes, y esto, de Dios.

and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God.

29 P orque a ustedes se les ha concedido por amor de Cristo, no sólo creer en El, sino también sufrir por El,

For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,

30 t eniendo el mismo conflicto que vieron en mí, y que ahora oyen que está en mí.

having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.
