1 B ătrânul, către aleasa doamnă şi către copiii ei, pe care-i iubesc în adevăr – nu numai eu, ci toţi cei ce cunosc adevărul –,

The elder, to the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in truth; and not I only, but also all those who know the truth;

2 d atorită adevărului care rămâne în noi şi care va fi cu noi în veac:

for the truth’s sake, which remains in us, and it will be with us forever:

3 h arul, îndurarea şi pacea de la Dumnezeu Tatăl şi de la Isus Cristos, Fiul Tatălui, vor fi cu noi, în adevăr şi în dragoste!

Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

4 M -am bucurat foarte mult că i-am găsit pe unii dintre copiii tăi umblând în adevăr, aşa cum am primit poruncă de la Tatăl.

I rejoice greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, even as we have been commanded by the Father.

5 A cum, te rog, doamnă, nu ca şi cum ţi-aş scrie o poruncă nouă, ci una pe care o aveam de la început: să ne iubim unii pe alţii!

Now I beg you, dear lady, not as though I wrote to you a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

6 I ar dragostea este aceasta: să umblăm potrivit cu poruncile Lui. Aceasta este porunca; aşa cum aţi auzit de la început, să umblaţi în ea!

This is love, that we should walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, even as you heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

7 C ăci în lume au ieşit mulţi înşelători, care nu mărturisesc că Isus Cristos a venit în trup. Acesta este înşelătorul şi anticristul.

For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who don’t confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the Antichrist.

8 V egheaţi asupra voastră ca să nu pierdeţi lucrurile pentru care am lucrat, ci să primiţi răsplată deplină.

Watch yourselves, that we don’t lose the things which we have accomplished, but that we receive a full reward.

9 O ricine o ia înainte şi nu rămâne în învăţătura lui Cristos, nu-L are pe Dumnezeu. Cel ce rămâne în învăţătura aceasta Îl are şi pe Tatăl, şi pe Fiul.

Whoever transgresses and doesn’t remain in the teaching of Christ, doesn’t have God. He who remains in the teaching, the same has both the Father and the Son.

10 D acă vine la voi cineva care nu aduce învăţătura aceasta, să nu-l primiţi în casă şi să nu-i spuneţi „Bun venit!“

If anyone comes to you, and doesn’t bring this teaching, don’t receive him into your house, and don’t welcome him,

11 C ăci cel ce-i spune „Bun venit!“ se face părtaş la lucrările lui rele.

for he who welcomes him participates in his evil deeds.

12 A m multe să vă scriu, dar n-aş vrea să vi le scriu pe hârtie şi cu cerneală, ci sper să vin la voi şi să vă vorbesc gură către gură, pentru ca bucuria noastră să fie deplină.

Having many things to write to you, I don’t want to do so with paper and ink, but I hope to come to you, and to speak face to face, that our joy may be made full.
