1 N u sunt eu liber? Nu sunt eu apostol? Nu L-am văzut eu pe Isus, Domnul nostru? Nu sunteţi voi lucrarea mea în Domnul?

Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Haven’t I seen Jesus Christ, our Lord? Aren’t you my work in the Lord?

2 D acă nu sunt apostol pentru alţii, pentru voi sunt, pentru că voi sunteţi sigiliul apostoliei mele în Domnul!

If to others I am not an apostle, yet at least I am to you; for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

3 A ceasta este apărarea mea faţă de cei care mă critică.

My defense to those who examine me is this.

4 N u avem dreptul să mâncăm şi să bem?

Have we no right to eat and to drink?

5 N u avem dreptul să luăm alături de noi o soţie credincioasă, cum fac ceilalţi apostoli, fraţii Domnului, şi Chifa?

Have we no right to take along a wife who is a believer, even as the rest of the apostles, and the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas?

6 S au numai eu şi Barnabas nu avem dreptul să nu lucrăm?

Or have only Barnabas and I no right to not work?

7 C ine a fost vreodată în armată pe cheltuiala lui? Cine plantează o vie şi nu mănâncă din rodul ei? Sau cine păstoreşte o turmă şi nu bea din laptele turmei?

What soldier ever serves at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard, and doesn’t eat of its fruit? Or who feeds a flock, and doesn’t drink from the flock’s milk?

8 O are spun eu acestea doar dintr-o perspectivă omenească? Nu spune şi Legea la fel?

Do I speak these things according to the ways of men? Or doesn’t the law also say the same thing?

9 Î n Legea lui Moise este scris: „Să nu legi gura boului în timp ce treieră grâul.“ Oare doar pe boi îi are în vedere Dumnezeu aici?

For it is written in the law of Moses, “You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain.” Is it for the oxen that God cares,

10 S au o spune şi cu privire la noi? Lucrul acesta a fost scris şi pentru noi. Când plugarul ară şi treierătorul treieră, trebuie să o facă cu speranţa că vor avea parte de roade.

or does he say it assuredly for our sake? Yes, it was written for our sake, because he who plows ought to plow in hope, and he who threshes in hope should partake of his hope.

11 D acă noi am semănat printre voi bunurile duhovniceşti, este mare lucru dacă secerăm de la voi lucruri materiale?

If we sowed to you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we reap your fleshly things?

12 D acă alţii au acest drept de la voi, oare noi nu-l avem şi mai mult? Cu toate acestea, nu ne-am folosit de acest drept, ci îndurăm totul, pentru a nu pune vreo piedică în calea Evangheliei lui Cristos.

If others partake of this right over you, don’t we yet more? Nevertheless we did not use this right, but we bear all things, that we may cause no hindrance to the Good News of Christ.

13 N u ştiţi că cei care slujesc în Templu îşi primesc hrana de la Templu, iar cei care slujesc la altar îşi primesc partea din jertfe?

Don’t you know that those who serve around sacred things eat from the things of the temple, and those who wait on the altar have their portion with the altar?

14 A stfel, şi Domnul a poruncit ca cei care vestesc Evanghelia să trăiască de pe urma Evangheliei.

Even so the Lord ordained that those who proclaim the Good News should live from the Good News.

15 Î nsă eu nu m-am folosit de nici unul dintre aceste drepturi. Şi nu v-am scris aceste lucruri ca să se facă aşa pentru mine. Într-adevăr, mai degrabă aş vrea să mor decât să mă lase cineva fără acest motiv de laudă!

But I have used none of these things, and I don’t write these things that it may be done so in my case; for I would rather die, than that anyone should make my boasting void.

16 D acă eu vestesc Evanghelia, nu am dreptul să mă laud, pentru că este obligaţia mea. Căci este vai de mine dacă nu vestesc Evanghelia!

For if I preach the Good News, I have nothing to boast about; for necessity is laid on me; but woe is to me, if I don’t preach the Good News.

17 D acă o fac pentru că vreau eu, am o răsplată, dar dacă nu este din voia mea, atunci este vorba de o responsabilitate care mi-a fost încredinţată.

For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward. But if not of my own will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.

18 D eci, care este răsplata mea? Este să ofer fără plată Evanghelia pe care o vestesc şi astfel să nu mă folosesc de dreptul meu în Evanghelie.

What then is my reward? That, when I preach the Good News, I may present the Good News of Christ without charge, so as not to abuse my authority in the Good News.

19 D eşi sunt liber faţă de toţi, m-am făcut sclavul tuturor, pentru a-i câştiga pe cât mai mulţi.

For though I was free from all, I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more.

20 F aţă de iudei, am fost ca un iudeu, pentru a-i câştiga pe iudei. Faţă de cei ce sunt sub Lege, am fost ca unul care este sub Lege, măcar că nu sunt sub Lege, pentru a-i câştiga pe cei de sub Lege.

To the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain those who are under the law;

21 F aţă de cei fără Lege, am fost ca unul fără Lege – măcar că nu sunt liber faţă de Legea lui Dumnezeu, ci sunt sub legea lui Cristos –, pentru a-i câştiga pe cei fără Lege.

to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law.

22 P entru cei care sunt slabi în credinţă, m-am făcut slab, pentru a-i câştiga pe cei slabi. M-am făcut toate pentru toţi, pentru ca, oricum, să-i mântuiesc pe unii dintre ei.

To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some.

23 P e toate le fac de dragul Evangheliei, ca să am şi eu parte de ea.

Now I do this for the sake of the Good News, that I may be a joint partaker of it.

24 N u ştiţi că toţi alergătorii din arenă încearcă să câştige, însă numai unul primeşte premiul? Alergaţi deci în aşa fel, încât să câştigaţi.

Don’t you know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run like that, that you may win.

25 A lergătorii dau dovadă de stăpânire de sine în toate lucrurile, pentru a primi o cunună care se veştejeşte, însă noi facem aceasta pentru una care nu se veştejeşte.

Every man who strives in the games exercises self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible.

26 A stfel, eu nu alerg fără ţintă, nici nu mă bat ca unul care loveşte în vânt,

I therefore run like that, as not uncertainly. I fight like that, as not beating the air,

27 c i îmi ţin trupul sub control şi mi-l fac sclav, ca nu cumva, după ce am predicat altora, eu însumi să fiu descalificat.

but I beat my body and bring it into submission, lest by any means, after I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected.
