1 R egele David îmbătrânise şi acum era înaintat în vârstă. L-au acoperit cu pături, dar nu se putea încălzi.

Now king David was old and advanced in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he couldn’t keep warm.

2 S lujitorii săi i-au zis: „Să se caute pentru stăpânul nostru, regele, o tânără fecioară, care să stea înaintea regelui şi care să-i fie servitoare. Ea să se culce la pieptul tău şi stăpânul nostru, regele, se va încălzi.“

Therefore his servants said to him, “Let a young virgin be sought for my lord the king. Let her stand before the king, and cherish him; and let her lie in your bosom, that my lord the king may keep warm.”

3 E i au căutat în tot teritoriul lui Israel o tânără frumoasă şi au găsit-o pe Abişag şunamita, pe care au adus-o la rege.

So they sought for a beautiful young lady throughout all the borders of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

4 T ânăra era foarte frumoasă. Ea i-a devenit regelui servitoare şi s-a îngrijit de el, dar regele n-a cunoscut-o.

The young lady was very beautiful; and she cherished the king, and served him; but the king didn’t know her intimately.

5 A donia, fiul Haghitei, s-a îngâmfat zicând: „Eu voi deveni rege!“ El şi-a pregătit un car, călăreţi şi cincizeci de bărbaţi care alergau înaintea lui.

Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.” Then he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

6 T atăl său nu l-a mustrat niciodată, spunând: „De ce ai făcut astfel?“ El s-a născut după Absalom şi era, de asemenea, foarte frumos la chip.

His father had not displeased him at any time in saying, “Why have you done so?” and he was also a very handsome man; and he was born after Absalom.

7 E l a vorbit cu Ioab, fiul Ţeruiei, şi cu preotul Abiatar, iar aceştia l-au sprijinit pe Adonia.

He conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest; and they followed Adonijah and helped him.

8 D ar preotul Ţadok, Benaia, fiul lui Iehoiada, profetul Natan, Şimei, Rei şi vitejii lui David nu au fost de partea lui Adonia.

But Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

9 A donia a tăiat oi, vite şi viţei îngrăşaţi lângă Piatra lui Zohelet, care se află în apropiere de En-Roghel. El i-a invitat pe toţi fraţii săi, fiii regelui, şi pe toţi bărbaţii lui Iuda, slujitorii regelui.

Adonijah killed sheep, cattle, and fatlings by the stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En Rogel; and he called all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah, the king’s servants;

10 D ar pe profetul Natan, pe Benaia, pe viteji şi pe Solomon, fratele său, nu i-a invitat.

but he didn’t call Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother.

11 N atan i-a spus Batşebei, mama lui Solomon: „N-ai auzit că Adonia, fiul Haghitei, s-a făcut rege? Stăpânul nostru David nu ştie acest lucru!

Then Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, “Haven’t you heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith reigns, and David our lord doesn’t know it?

12 P rin urmare, dă-mi voie să te sfătuiesc cum să-ţi scapi viaţa, tu şi fiul tău Solomon.

Now therefore come, please let me give you counsel, that you may save your own life, and your son Solomon’s life.

13 D u-te, intră la regele David şi spune-i: «Stăpâne, regele meu, oare nu i-ai jurat tu însuţi slujitoarei tale că Solomon, fiul meu, va domni după tine şi că el va urma la tron? Atunci de ce domneşte Adonia?»

Go in to king David, and tell him, ‘Didn’t you, my lord, king, swear to your servant, saying, “Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne?” Why then does Adonijah reign?’

14 Î n timp ce vei vorbi acolo cu regele, eu însumi voi veni după tine şi voi întări cuvintele tale.“

Behold, while you are still talking there with the king, I will also come in after you and confirm your words.”

15 B atşeba s-a dus în odaia regelui. Regele era foarte bătrân, iar Abişag şunamita se îngrijea de el.

Bathsheba went in to the king in his room. The king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.

16 B atşeba s-a plecat şi s-a închinat înaintea regelui. – Ce doreşti? a întrebat regele.

Bathsheba bowed, and showed respect to the king. The king said, “What would you like?”

17 – Stăpânul meu, a răspuns ea, tu însuţi ai jurat slujitoarei tale pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, spunând: „Solomon, fiul tău, va domni după mine şi el va şedea pe tronul meu!“

She said to him, “My lord, you swore by Yahweh your God to your servant, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.’

18 T otuşi, acum Adonia domneşte, iar stăpânul meu, regele, nu ştie acest lucru.

Now, behold, Adonijah reigns; and you, my lord the king, don’t know it.

19 E l a tăiat vite, viţei îngrăşaţi şi oi în mare număr şi i-a invitat pe toţi fiii regelui, pe preotul Abiatar şi pe Ioab, conducătorul oştirii. Dar pe Solomon, slujitorul tău, nu l-a invitat.

He has slain cattle and fatlings and sheep in abundance, and has called all the sons of the king, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the army; but he hasn’t called Solomon your servant.

20 A cum, o, rege, stăpânul meu, ochii întregului Israel sunt aţintiţi spre tine ca să le spui cine va urma să domnească după stăpânul meu, regele.

You, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, that you should tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

21 A ltfel, se va întâmpla că, atunci când stăpânul meu, regele, se va culca alături de părinţii săi, eu şi fiul meu Solomon vom fi priviţi ca nişte vinovaţi.

Otherwise it will happen, when my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be considered criminals.”

22 Î n timp ce vorbea ea cu regele, a venit şi profetul Natan.

Behold, while she was still talking with the king, Nathan the prophet came in.

23 L -au înştiinţat pe rege că a sosit profetul Natan. Acesta a venit înaintea regelui şi s-a plecat cu faţa la pământ înaintea lui.

They told the king, saying, “Behold, Nathan the prophet!” When he had come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

24 N atan a zis: – Stăpâne, regele meu, oare ai spus tu că Adonia va domni după tine şi că el va şedea pe tronul tău?

Nathan said, “My lord, king, have you said, ‘Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne?’

25 C ăci el a coborât astăzi, a tăiat vite, viţei îngrăşaţi şi oi în mare număr şi i-a invitat pe toţi fiii regelui, pe conducătorii oştirii şi pe preotul Abiatar. Chiar acum ei mănâncă şi beau înaintea lui şi strigă: „Trăiască regele Adonia!“

For he has gone down today, and has slain cattle, fatlings, and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king’s sons, the captains of the army, and Abiathar the priest. Behold, they are eating and drinking before him, and saying, ‘Long live king Adonijah!’

26 C u toate acestea, pe mine, slujitorul tău, pe preotul Ţadok, pe Benaia, fiul lui Iehoiada, şi pe Solomon, slujitorul tău, nu ne-a invitat.

But he hasn’t called me, even me your servant, Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and your servant Solomon.

27 O are din porunca stăpânului meu, regele, s-a înfăptuit acest lucru? Să nu-i fi adus la cunoştinţă slujitorului tău cine va sta pe tronul stăpânului meu, regele, după el?

Was this thing done by my lord the king, and you haven’t shown to your servants who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?”

28 R egele David a zis: – Chemaţi-o pe Batşeba! Ea a intrat şi s-a înfăţişat înaintea regelui.

Then king David answered, “Call Bathsheba in to me.” She came into the king’s presence and stood before the king.

29 R egele a jurat zicând: – Viu este Domnul Care m-a izbăvit din fiecare necaz

The king swore, and said, “As Yahweh lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity,

30 c ă voi face astăzi aşa cum ţi-am jurat pe Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, spunând: „Solomon, fiul tău, va domni după mine; el va şedea pe tron în locul meu.“

most certainly as I swore to you by Yahweh, the God of Israel, saying, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place;’ I will most certainly do this today.”

31 B atşeba s-a plecat cu faţa la pământ şi s-a închinat înaintea regelui. Apoi a zis: – Trăiască veşnic stăpânul meu, regele David!

Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and showed respect to the king, and said, “Let my lord king David live forever!”

32 A poi regele David a zis: „Chemaţi-i pe preotul Ţadok, pe profetul Natan şi pe Benaia, fiul lui Iehoiada!“ Ei au venit înaintea regelui,

King David said, “Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada.” They came before the king.

33 i ar el le-a poruncit: – Luaţi-i cu voi pe slujitorii stăpânului vostru, puneţi-l pe fiul meu Solomon să călărească pe catârul meu şi duceţi-l la Ghihon.

The king said to them, “Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon.

34 P reotul Ţadok şi profetul Natan să-l ungă acolo ca rege peste Israel. Să sunaţi din trâmbiţă şi să strigaţi: „Trăiască regele Solomon!“

Let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel. Blow the trumpet, and say, ‘Long live king Solomon!’

35 A poi mergeţi după el. El să vină şi să se urce pe tronul meu, căci el va domni în locul meu, întrucât cu privire la el am poruncit să fie conducător peste Israel şi peste Iuda.

Then come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne; for he shall be king in my place. I have appointed him to be prince over Israel and over Judah.”

36 B enaia, fiul lui Iehoiada, i-a răspuns regelui astfel: – Amin! Aşa să hotărască Domnul, Dumnezeul stăpânului meu, regele.

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, “Amen. May Yahweh, the God of my lord the king, say so.

37 D upă cum Domnul a fost cu stăpânul meu, regele, tot aşa să fie şi cu Solomon şi să-i înalţe tronul mai presus decât tronul stăpânului meu, regele David.

As Yahweh has been with my lord the king, even so may he be with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.”

38 P reotul Ţadok, profetul Natan, Benaia, fiul lui Iehoiada, cheretiţii şi peletiţii au coborât, l-au pus pe Solomon să călărească pe catârul regelui David şi l-au adus la Ghihon.

So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on king David’s mule, and brought him to Gihon.

39 P reotul Ţadok a luat cornul cu untdelemn din Cort şi l-a uns pe Solomon. Apoi au sunat din trâmbiţă şi tot poporul a strigat: „Trăiască regele Solomon!“

Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the Tent, and anointed Solomon. They blew the trumpet; and all the people said, “Long live king Solomon!”

40 T ot poporul s-a dus după el, cântând din fluiere şi bucurându-se nespus de mult, încât se cutremura pământul de strigătul lor.

All the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth shook with their sound.

41 A donia împreună cu toţi oaspeţii care erau cu el au auzit strigătul şi s-au oprit din mâncat. Ioab a auzit sunetul trâmbiţei şi a întrebat: „De ce se aude această zarvă în cetate?“

Adonijah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they had finished eating. When Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, “Why is this noise of the city being in an uproar?”

42 Î n timp ce el vorbea, a venit Ionatan, fiul preotului Abiatar. Adonia i-a zis: – Vino, căci tu eşti un om vrednic şi aduci veşti bune!

While he yet spoke, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came; and Adonijah said, “Come in; for you are a worthy man, and bring good news.”

43 – Nicidecum, i-a răspuns Ionatan. Stăpânul nostru, regele David, l-a numit rege pe Solomon.

Jonathan answered Adonijah, “Most certainly our lord king David has made Solomon king.

44 R egele i-a trimis cu el pe preotul Ţadok, pe profetul Natan, pe Benaia, fiul lui Iehoiada, pe cheretiţi şi pe peletiţi, iar ei l-au pus să călărească pe catârul regelui.

The king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and they have caused him to ride on the king’s mule.

45 P reotul Ţadok şi profetul Natan l-au uns rege la Ghihon şi au plecat de acolo bucuroşi, iar cetatea freamătă. Aceasta era zarva pe care aţi auzit-o.

Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon. They have come up from there rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that you have heard.

46 D e asemenea, Solomon s-a aşezat pe tronul regal.

Also, Solomon sits on the throne of the kingdom.

47 I ar slujitorii regelui au venit să-l binecuvânteze pe stăpânul nostru, regele David, zicând: „Dumnezeul tău să facă numele lui Solomon mai vestit decât numele tău şi să-i înalţe tronul mai presus decât tronul tău.“ Apoi regele s-a închinat în patul său.

Moreover the king’s servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, ‘May your God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and make his throne greater than your throne;’ and the king bowed himself on the bed.

48 R egele a mai zis: „Binecuvântat să fie Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, Care mi-a dat astăzi un urmaş care să şadă pe tronul meu şi pe care să-l văd cu ochii mei!“

Also thus said the king, ‘Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne today, my eyes even seeing it.’”

49 T oţi oaspeţii care erau cu Adonia au început să tremure, s-au ridicat şi fiecare a luat-o care încotro.

All the guests of Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and each man went his way.

50 A donia s-a temut de Solomon; s-a sculat, s-a dus la Cort şi s-a prins de coarnele altarului.

Adonijah was afraid because of Solomon; and he arose, and went, and hung onto the horns of the altar.

51 L ui Solomon i s-a spus că Adonia se teme de el şi că acesta s-a apucat de coarnele altarului, zicând: „Să-mi jure regele Solomon astăzi că nu-l va omorî pe slujitorul său cu sabia!“

Solomon was told, “Behold, Adonijah fears king Solomon; for, behold, he is hanging onto the horns of the altar, saying, ‘Let king Solomon swear to me first that he will not kill his servant with the sword.’”

52 S olomon a răspuns: „Dacă este un om vrednic, nici un fir de păr nu-i va cădea la pământ, dar, dacă se va găsi răutate în el, va muri!“

Solomon said, “If he shows himself a worthy man, not a hair of his shall fall to the earth; but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die.”

53 R egele Solomon şi-a trimis oamenii ca să-l coboare de la altar, iar el a venit şi s-a închinat înaintea regelui Solomon. Solomon i-a zis: „Du-te acasă!“

So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. He came and bowed down to king Solomon; and Solomon said to him, “Go to your house.”
