1 C elebrate l'Eterno, invocate il suo nome; fate conoscere le sue opere fra i popoli,

Give thanks to Yahweh! Call on his name! Make his doings known among the peoples.

2 C antate a lui, cantate lodi a lui, meditate su tutte le sue meraviglie.

Sing to him, sing praises to him! Tell of all his marvelous works.

3 G loriatevi nel suo santo nome, si rallegri il cuore di quanti cercano l'Eterno.

Glory in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek Yahweh rejoice.

4 C ercate l'Eterno e la sua forza; cercate del continuo la sua faccia,

Seek Yahweh and his strength. Seek his face forever more.

5 R icordate le meraviglie che egli ha fatto, i suoi miracoli e i giudizi della sua bocca,

Remember his marvelous works that he has done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth,

6 v oi, o progenie d'Abrahamo, suo servo, o figli di Giacobbe, suoi eletti.

you offspring of Abraham, his servant, you children of Jacob, his chosen ones.

7 E gli è l'Eterno, il nostro DIO; i suoi giudizi sono su tutta la terra.

He is Yahweh, our God. His judgments are in all the earth.

8 E gli si ricorda in eterno del suo patto e per mille generazioni della parola da lui comandata,

He has remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations,

9 d el patto che fece con Abrahamo e del suo giuramento che fece a Isacco,

the covenant which he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac,

10 c he confermò a Giacobbe come suo statuto e a Israele come un patto eterno,

and confirmed the same to Jacob for a statute; to Israel for an everlasting covenant,

11 d icendo: «ti darò il paese di Canaan come porzione della vostra eredità»,

saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance”;

12 q uando non erano che un piccolo numero, pochissimi e stranieri nel paese,

when they were but a few men in number, yes, very few, and foreigners in it.

13 e andavano da una nazione all'altra, da un regno a un altro popolo.

They went about from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people.

14 E gli non permise che alcuno li opprimesse; anzi puní dei re per amor loro,

He allowed no one to do them wrong. Yes, he reproved kings for their sakes,

15 e disse: «Non toccate i miei unti e non fate alcun male ai miei profeti».

“Don’t touch my anointed ones! Do my prophets no harm!”

16 P oi fece venir la carestia nel paese e distrusse ogni fonte di cibo.

He called for a famine on the land. He destroyed the food supplies.

17 E gli mandò davanti a loro un uomo, Giuseppe, che fu venduto come schiavo.

He sent a man before them. Joseph was sold for a slave.

18 G li serrarono i piedi in ceppi e fu oppresso con catene di ferro.

They bruised his feet with shackles. His neck was locked in irons,

19 L a parola dell'Eterno lo mise alla prova, finché si adempí ciò che egli aveva detto.

until the time that his word happened, and Yahweh’s word proved him true.

20 A llora il re mandò a farlo sciogliere, il dominatore di popoli mandò a liberarlo,

The king sent and freed him; even the ruler of peoples, and let him go free.

21 e lo fece signore della sua casa e governatore sopra tutti i suoi beni,

He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all of his possessions;

22 p er legare i suoi principi a suo giudizio e insegnare ai suoi anziani, la sapienza.

to discipline his princes at his pleasure, and to teach his elders wisdom.

23 A nche Israele venne in Egitto, e Giacobbe soggiornò nel paese di Cam.

Israel also came into Egypt. Jacob lived in the land of Ham.

24 E DIO moltiplicò grandemente il suo popolo e lo rese piú potente dei suoi nemici.

He increased his people greatly, and made them stronger than their adversaries.

25 P oi mutò il loro cuore, perché odiassero il suo popolo e tramassero inganni contro i suoi servi.

He turned their heart to hate his people, to conspire against his servants.

26 A llora egli mandò Mosé, suo servo, e Aaronne che aveva eletto.

He sent Moses, his servant, and Aaron, whom he had chosen.

27 E ssi operarono fra loro i portenti da lui ordinati e fecero prodigi nella terra di Cam.

They performed miracles among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.

28 M andò le tenebre e fece cadere il paese nell'oscurità, ed essi non si ribellarono alla sua parola.

He sent darkness, and made it dark. They didn’t rebel against his words.

29 C ambiò le acque loro in sangue e fece morire i loro pesci.

He turned their waters into blood, and killed their fish.

30 I l loro paese brulicò di rane, che entrarono perfino nelle camere dei loro re.

Their land swarmed with frogs, even in the rooms of their kings.

31 A lla sua parola venne una moltitudine d'insetti e zanzare in tutto il loro territorio.

He spoke, and swarms of flies came, and lice in all their borders.

32 M andò loro grandine invece di pioggia e fiamme di fuoco nel loro paese;

He gave them hail for rain, with lightning in their land.

33 c olpí anche le loro vigne e i loro fichi e distrusse gli alberi del loro territorio.

He struck their vines and also their fig trees, and shattered the trees of their country.

34 E gli parlò, e vennero cavallette e bruchi senza numero,

He spoke, and the locusts came, and the grasshoppers, without number,

35 c he divorarono tutta la vegetazione nel loro paese e mangiarono il frutto della loro terra.

ate up every plant in their land; and ate up the fruit of their ground.

36 E gli colpí anche tutti i primogeniti nel loro paese, le primizie di tutto il loro vigore;

He struck also all the firstborn in their land, the first fruits of all their manhood.

37 e fece uscire il suo popolo con argento e oro, e non vi fu alcuno fra le sue tribú che vacillasse.

He brought them out with silver and gold. There was not one feeble person among his tribes.

38 G li Egiziani si rallegrarono della loro partenza, perché il terrore d'Israele era caduto su di essi.

Egypt was glad when they departed, for the fear of them had fallen on them.

39 E gli distese una nuvola per coprirli e accese un fuoco per illuminarli di notte,

He spread a cloud for a covering, fire to give light in the night.

40 A lla loro richiesta egli fece venire le quaglie e li saziò col pane del cielo.

They asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of the sky.

41 A perse la roccia e ne scaturirono acque; esse scorrevano nel deserto come un fiume.

He opened the rock, and waters gushed out. They ran as a river in the dry places.

42 P oiché egli si ricordò della sua santa promessa, fatta ad Abrahamo, suo servo;

For he remembered his holy word, and Abraham, his servant.

43 f ece quindi uscire il suo popolo con letizia e i suoi eletti con grida di gioia.

He brought his people out with joy, his chosen with singing.

44 e diede loro i paesi delle nazioni, ed essi ereditarono il frutto della fatica dei popoli,

He gave them the lands of the nations. They took the labor of the peoples in possession,

45 a ffinché osservassero i suoi statuti e ubbidissero alle sue leggi. Alleluia.

that they might keep his statutes, and observe his laws. Praise Yah!
