1 N ell'anno ventitreesimo di Joas, figlio di Achaziah, re di Giuda Jehoahaz, figlio di Jehu, iniziò a regnare sopra Israele in Samaria, e regnò diciassette anni.

In the twenty-third year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria for seventeen years.

2 E gli fece ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno e seguí i peccati di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, con i quali aveva fatto peccare Israele, e non se ne allontanò.

He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin. He didn’t depart from it.

3 A llora l'ira dell'Eterno si accese contro Israele e li diede nelle mani di Hazael, re di Siria, e nelle mani di Ben-Hadad figlio di Hazael, per tutto quel tempo.

Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, continually.

4 M a Jehoahaz implorò l'Eterno e l' Eterno lo esaudì, perché vide l'oppressione d'Israele e come il re di Siria li opprimeva.

Jehoahaz begged Yahweh, and Yahweh listened to him; for he saw the oppression of Israel, how the king of Syria oppressed them.

5 P erciò l'Eterno diede un liberatore a Israele, ed essi riuscirono a sottrarsi al potere dei Siri; cosí i figli d'Israele poterono abitare nelle loro tende come nel passato.

(Yahweh gave Israel a savior, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians; and the children of Israel lived in their tents as before.

6 T uttavia non si allontanarono dai peccati della casa di Geroboamo con i quali aveva fatto peccare Israele, ma camminarono in essi; perfino l'Ascerah rimase in piedi in Samaria.

Nevertheless they didn’t depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, with which he made Israel to sin, but walked in them; and the Asherah also remained in Samaria.)

7 D i tutte le truppe di Jehoahaz l'Eterno lasciò soltanto cinquanta cavalieri, dieci carri e diecimila fanti, perché il re di Siria li aveva distrutti e li aveva ridotti come la polvere da calpestare.

For he didn’t leave to Jehoahaz of the people any more than fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria destroyed them, and made them like the dust in threshing.

8 I l resto delle gesta di Jehoahaz, tutto ciò che fece e tutte le sue prodezze non è scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re d'Israele?

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, and all that he did, and his might, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

9 C osí Jehoahaz si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto in Samaria. Al suo posto regnò suo figlio Joas.

Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria; and Joash his son reigned in his place.

10 N ell'anno trentasettesimo di Joas, re di Giuda, Joas, figlio di Jehoahaz, iniziò a regnare sopra Israele in Samaria, e regnò sedici anni.

In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz began to reign over Israel in Samaria for sixteen years.

11 E gli fece ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno e non si allontanò dai peccati di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, con i quali aveva fatto peccare Israele, ma cammino in essi.

He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight. He didn’t depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin; but he walked in them.

12 I l resto delle gesta di Joas, tutto ciò che fece e il valore con il quale combattè contro Amatsiah re di Giuda, non è scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re d'Israele?

Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, and his might with which he fought against Amaziah king of Judah, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

13 C osí Joas si addormentò con i suoi padri e Geroboamo si sedette sul suo trono. Joas fu quindi sepolto a Samaria con i re d'Israele Vittoria di Joas sopra i Siri

Joash slept with his fathers; and Jeroboam sat on his throne. Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

14 O r Eliseo si ammalò di quella malattia di cui doveva morire; perciò Joas re d'Israele, scese a trovarlo e pianse su lui, e, disse: «Padre mio, padre mio, carro d'Israele e sua cavalleria!».

Now Elisha became sick with the illness of which he died; and Joash the king of Israel came down to him, and wept over him, and said, “My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!”

15 A llora Eliseo gli disse: «Prendi un arco e delle frecce»; egli prese un arco e delle frecce

Elisha said to him, “Take bow and arrows”; and he took bow and arrows for himself.

16 E liseo disse quindi al re d'Israele: «Impugna l'arco»; egli lo impugnò e Eliseo posò le sue mani sulle mani del re.

He said to the king of Israel, “Put your hand on the bow”; and he put his hand on it. Elisha laid his hands on the king’s hands.

17 P oi gli disse: «Apri la finestra verso oriente!». Egli l'aperse. Allora Eliseo disse: «Tira!». Egli tirò. Eliseo quindi disse: «La freccia della vittoria dell'Eterno e la freccia della vittoria contro la Siria, perché tu sconfiggerai i Siri in Afek, fino a sterminarli».

He said, “Open the window eastward”; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, “Shoot!” and he shot. He said, “Yahweh’s arrow of victory, even the arrow of victory over Syria; for you will strike the Syrians in Aphek, until you have consumed them.”

18 P oi disse: «Prendi le frecce!», ed egli le prese. Eliseo disse quindi al re d'Israele: «Percuoti il suolo»; egli lo percosse tre volte, poi si fermò.

He said, “Take the arrows”; and he took them. He said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground”; and he struck three times, and stopped.

19 M a l'uomo di DIO si adirò con lui e disse: «Avresti dovuto percuoterlo cinque o sei volte; allora avresti sconfitto i Siri fino a sterminarli; ora invece sconfiggerai i Siri solo tre volte».

The man of God was angry with him, and said, “You should have struck five or six times. Then you would have struck Syria until you had consumed it, whereas now you will strike Syria just three times.”

20 P oi Eliseo morí e fu sepolto. All'inizio dell'anno seguente, alcune bande di Moabiti, invasero il paese.

Elisha died, and they buried him. Now the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year.

21 O r avvenne che, mentre alcuni seppellivano un uomo, scorsero una banda di razziatori; cosí gettarono l'uomo nel sepolcro di Eliseo. Appena l'uomo giunse a toccare le ossa di Eliseo, risuscitò e si alzò in piedi.

As they were burying a man, behold, they saw a band of raiders; and they threw the man into Elisha’s tomb. As soon as the man touched Elisha’s bones, he revived, and stood up on his feet.

22 H azael, re di Siria, oppresse Israele durante tutta la vita di Jehoahaz;

Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.

23 m a l'Eterno fece loro grazia, ne ebbe compassione e si volse verso di loro a motivo del suo patto con Abrahamo, con Isacco, e con Giacobbe, e per questa volta non volle distruggerli o rigettarli dalla sua presenza.

But Yahweh was gracious to them, and had compassion on them, and had respect for them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, and he didn’t cast them from his presence as yet.

24 P oi Hazael, re di Siria, morí, e al suo posto regnò suo figlio Ben-Hadad.

Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his place.

25 A llora Joas, figlio di Jehoahaz, riprese dalle mani di Ben-Hadad, figlio di Hazael, le città che egli aveva preso in guerra a Jehoahaz suo padre. Per ben tre volte Joas lo sconfisse e riprese cosí le città d'Israele.

Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Joash struck him three times, and recovered the cities of Israel.
