1 P oi propose loro ancora una parabola, per mostrare che bisogna continuamente pregare senza stancarsi,

He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray, and not give up,

2 d icendo: «C'era in una città un giudice che non temeva Dio e non aveva rispetto per alcun uomo.

saying, “There was a judge in a certain city who didn’t fear God, and didn’t respect man.

3 O r in quella stessa città c'era una vedova che andava da lui, dicendo: "Fammi giustizia del mio avversario".

A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, ‘Defend me from my adversary!’

4 P er un certo tempo egli si rifiutò di farlo, ma poi disse fra sé: "Anche se non temo Dio e non ho rispetto per alcun uomo,

He wouldn’t for a while, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God, nor respect man,

5 t uttavia, poiché questa vedova continua a infastidirmi, le farò giustizia perché a forza di venire, alla fine non mi esaurisca"».

yet because this widow bothers me, I will defend her, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.’”

6 E il Signore disse: «Ascoltate ciò che dice il giudice iniquo.

The Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge says.

7 N on vendicherà Dio i suoi eletti che gridano a lui giorno e notte. Tarderà egli forse a intervenire a loro favore?

Won’t God avenge his chosen ones, who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them?

8 S í, io vi dico che li vendicherà prontamente. Ma quando il Figlio dell'uomo verrà, troverà la fede sulla terra?».

I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

9 D isse ancora questa parabola per certuni che presumevano di essere giusti e disprezzavano gli altri.

He spoke also this parable to certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness, and who despised all others.

10 « Due uomini salirono al tempio per pregare; uno era fariseo e l'altro pubblicano

“Two men went up into the temple to pray; one was a Pharisee, and the other was a tax collector.

11 I l fariseo, stando in piedi, dentro di sé pregava cosí: "O Dio, ti ringrazio che non sono come gli altri uomini, rapaci, ingiusti, adulteri, e neppure come quel pubblicano.

The Pharisee stood and prayed to himself like this: ‘God, I thank you, that I am not like the rest of men, extortionists, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

12 I o digiuno due volte la settimana e pago la decima di tutto ciò che possiedo".

I fast twice a week. I give tithes of all that I get.’

13 I l pubblicano invece, stando lontano, non ardiva neppure alzare gli occhi al cielo; ma si batteva il petto, dicendo: "O Dio, sii placato verso me peccatore",

But the tax collector, standing far away, wouldn’t even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’

14 I o vi dico che questi, e non l'altro, ritornò a casa sua giustificato, perché chiunque si innalza sarà abbassato e chi si abbassa sarà innalzato»,

I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

15 G li presentarono anche dei piccoli fanciulli perché li toccasse; ma i discepoli, vedendo ciò, li sgridavano.

They were also bringing their babies to him, that he might touch them. But when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.

16 G esú allora, chiamati a sé i fanciulli, disse: «Lasciate che i piccoli fanciulli vengano a me e non glielo impedite, perché di tali è il regno di Dio.

Jesus summoned them, saying, “Allow the little children to come to me, and don’t hinder them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these.

17 I n verità vi dico che chi non riceve il regno di Dio come un piccolo fanciullo, non vi entrerà».

Most certainly, I tell you, whoever doesn’t receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it.”

18 U no dei capi lo interrogò, dicendo: «Maestro buono, che devo fare per ereditare la vita eterna?».

A certain ruler asked him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

19 E Gesú gli disse: «Perché mi chiami buono? Nessuno è buono, tranne uno solo, cioè Dio.

Jesus asked him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good, except one—God.

20 T u conosci i comandamenti: "Non commettere adulterio, non uccidere, non rubare, non dire falsa testimonianza, onora tuo padre e tua madre"».

You know the commandments: ‘Don’t commit adultery,’ ‘Don’t murder,’ ‘Don’t steal,’ ‘Don’t give false testimony,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’”

21 E colui disse: «Tutte queste cose le ho osservate fin dalla mia giovinezza».

He said, “I have observed all these things from my youth up.”

22 U dito ciò, Gesú gli disse: «Ti manca ancora una cosa: vendi tutto quello che hai e dallo ai poveri e avrai un tesoro nel cielo, poi vieni e seguimi».

When Jesus heard these things, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have, and distribute it to the poor. You will have treasure in heaven. Come, follow me.”

23 M a egli, udite queste cose, si rattristò grandemente, perché era molto ricco.

But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was very rich.

24 A llora Gesú, visto che si era molto rattristato, disse «Quanto è difficile per coloro che hanno delle ricchezze entrare nel regno di Dio!

Jesus, seeing that he became very sad, said, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter into God’s Kingdom!

25 P erché è piú facile che un cammello passi attraverso la cruna di un ago, che un ricco entri nel regno di Dio».

For it is easier for a camel to enter in through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into God’s Kingdom.”

26 E quelli che l'udivano dissero: «Chi dunque può essere salvato?».

Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?”

27 M a egli disse: «Le cose impossibili agli uomini, sono possibili a Dio».

But he said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”

28 P oi Pietro disse: «Ecco, noi abbiamo lasciato ogni cosa e ti abbiamo seguito».

Peter said, “Look, we have left everything, and followed you.”

29 E d egli disse loro: «In verità vi dico che non c'è nessuno che abbia lasciato casa o genitori o fratelli o moglie o figli, per il regno di Dio,

He said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or wife, or brothers, or parents, or children, for God’s Kingdom’s sake,

30 c he non ne riceva molte volte tanto in questo tempo, e nell'età a venire la vita eterna».

who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the world to come, eternal life.”

31 P oi prese con sé i dodici e disse loro: «Ecco, noi saliamo a Gerusalemme, e tutte le cose scritte dai profeti riguardo al Figlio dell'uomo si compiranno.

He took the twelve aside, and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all the things that are written through the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be completed.

32 E gli infatti sarà consegnato in mano dei gentili, sarà schernito e oltraggiato e gli sarà sputato addosso.

For he will be delivered up to the Gentiles, will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit on.

33 E , dopo averlo flagellato, lo uccideranno; ma il terzo giorno risusciterà».

They will scourge and kill him. On the third day, he will rise again.”

34 M a essi non compresero nulla di tutto ciò: questo parlare era per loro oscuro e non capivano le cose che erano state loro dette.

They understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they didn’t understand the things that were said.

35 O ra, come egli si avvicinava a Gerico, un cieco era seduto lungo la strada. mendicando;

As he came near Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the road, begging.

36 s entendo passare la folla domandò che cosa fosse;

Hearing a multitude going by, he asked what this meant.

37 g li risposero che stava passando Gesú, il Nazareno.

They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.

38 A llora egli gridò, dicendo: «Gesú, Figlio di Davide, abbi pietà di me».

He cried out, “Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me!”

39 Q uelli che camminavano davanti lo sgridavano perché tacesse, ma lui gridava ancora piú forte: «Figlio di Davide, abbi pietà di me».

Those who led the way rebuked him, that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “You son of David, have mercy on me!”

40 A llora Gesú, fermatosi, ordinò che gli fosse condotto e, quando gli fu vicino, lo interrogò,

Standing still, Jesus commanded him to be brought to him. When he had come near, he asked him,

41 d icendo: «Cosa vuoi che io ti faccia?». Ed egli disse: «Signore, che io recuperi la vista».

“What do you want me to do?” He said, “Lord, that I may see again.”

42 E Gesú gli disse: «Recupera la vista; la tua fede ti ha guarito».

Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you.”

43 A ll'istante egli recuperò la vista e lo seguiva glorificando Dio; e tutto il popolo, vedendo questo, diede lode a Dio.

Immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God. All the people, when they saw it, praised God.
