1 T hen Job answered and said:

Então Jó respondeu:

2 “ Even today my complaint is bitter; My hand is listless because of my groaning.

Ainda hoje a minha queixa está em amargura; o peso da mão dele é maior do que o meu gemido.

3 O h, that I knew where I might find Him, That I might come to His seat!

Ah, se eu soubesse onde encontrá-lo, e pudesse chegar ao seu tribunal!

4 I would present my case before Him, And fill my mouth with arguments.

Exporia ante ele a minha causa, e encheria a minha boca de argumentos.

5 I would know the words which He would answer me, And understand what He would say to me.

Saberia as palavras com que ele me respondesse, e entenderia o que me dissesse.

6 W ould He contend with me in His great power? No! But He would take note of me.

Acaso contenderia ele comigo segundo a grandeza do seu poder? Não; antes ele me daria ouvidos.

7 T here the upright could reason with Him, And I would be delivered forever from my Judge.

Ali o reto pleitearia com ele, e eu seria absolvido para sempre por meu Juiz.

8 “ Look, I go forward, but He is not there, And backward, but I cannot perceive Him;

Eis que vou adiante, mas não está ali; volto para trás, e não o percebo;

9 W hen He works on the left hand, I cannot behold Him; When He turns to the right hand, I cannot see Him.

procuro-o ã esquerda, onde ele opera, mas não o vejo; viro-me para a direita, e não o diviso.

10 B ut He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.

Mas ele sabe o caminho por que eu ando; provando-me ele, sairei como o ouro.

11 M y foot has held fast to His steps; I have kept His way and not turned aside.

Os meus pés se mantiveram nas suas pisadas; guardei o seu caminho, e não me desviei dele.

12 I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food.

Nunca me apartei do preceito dos seus lábios, e escondi no meu peito as palavras da sua boca.

13 “ But He is unique, and who can make Him change? And whatever His soul desires, that He does.

Mas ele está resolvido; quem então pode desviá-lo? E o que ele quiser, isso fará.

14 F or He performs what is appointed for me, And many such things are with Him.

Pois cumprirá o que está ordenado a meu respeito, e muitas coisas como estas ainda tem consigo.

15 T herefore I am terrified at His presence; When I consider this, I am afraid of Him.

Por isso me perturbo diante dele; e quando considero, tenho medo dele.

16 F or God made my heart weak, And the Almighty terrifies me;

Deus macerou o meu coração; o Todo-Poderoso me perturbou.

17 B ecause I was not cut off from the presence of darkness, And He did not hide deep darkness from my face.

Pois não estou desfalecido por causa das trevas, nem porque a escuridão cobre o meu rosto.
