1 А вия упокоился со своими предками и был похоронен в Городе Давида. Аса, его сын, стал царем вместо него, и в его дни в стране был мир десять лет.

So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David, and his son Asa became king in his place. The land was undisturbed for ten years during his days.

2 А са делал то, что было хорошо и правильным в глазах Господа, его Бога.

Asa did good and right in the sight of the Lord his God,

3 О н убрал чужеземные жертвенники и святилища на возвышенностях, разбил священные камни и срубил столбы Ашеры.

for he removed the foreign altars and high places, tore down the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherim,

4 О н велел иудеям искать Господа, Бога их отцов, и исполнять Его законы и повеления.

and commanded Judah to seek the Lord God of their fathers and to observe the law and the commandment.

5 О н убрал святилища на возвышенностях и жертвенники для благовоний во всех городах Иудеи, и в царстве при нем был мир.

He also removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah. And the kingdom was undisturbed under him.

6 П ока в стране был мир, он построил в Иудее укрепленные города. Никто не воевал с ним в эти годы, потому что Господь даровал ему мир.

He built fortified cities in Judah, since the land was undisturbed, and there was no one at war with him during those years, because the Lord had given him rest.

7 – Построим эти города, – сказал он народу Иудеи, – и обнесем их стенами с башнями, воротами и засовами. Земля пока наша, потому что мы искали Господа, нашего Бога. Мы искали Его, и Он даровал нам мир со всех сторон. Они принялись строить города и преуспевали в этом. Поражение кушитов

For he said to Judah, “ Let us build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours because we have sought the Lord our God; we have sought Him, and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.

8 У Асы было войско из трехсот тысяч воинов из рода Иуды, вооруженных большими щитами и копьями, и двухсот восьмидесяти тысяч из рода Вениамина, вооруженных маленькими щитами и луками. Все они были храбрыми воинами.

Now Asa had an army of 300, 000 from Judah, bearing large shields and spears, and 280, 000 from Benjamin, bearing shields and wielding bows; all of them were valiant warriors.

9 К ушит Зерах двинулся на них с миллионным войском и тремя сотнями колесниц и дошел до самой Мареши.

Now Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million men and 300 chariots, and he came to Mareshah.

10 А са вышел ему навстречу, и они построились для битвы в долине Цефата у Мареши.

So Asa went out to meet him, and they drew up in battle formation in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

11 А са воззвал к Господу, своему Богу, и сказал: – Господи, никто, кроме Тебя, не сможет помочь бессильному устоять против могучего. Помоги нам, Господи, Бог наш, потому что мы полагаемся на Тебя и во Имя Твое мы вышли против этого полчища. Господи, Ты наш Бог, не дай человеку одержать над Тобой победу.

Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, “ Lord, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help us, O Lord our God, for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; let not man prevail against You.”

12 И Господь наголову разбил кушитов перед Асой и иудеями. Кушиты побежали,

So the Lord routed the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.

13 и Аса со своим войском гнался за ними до самого Герара. Из кушитов пало убитыми так много, что они не смогли больше оправиться от поражения; они были сокрушены перед Господом и Его войском. Воины Иудеи взяли огромную добычу.

Asa and the people who were with him pursued them as far as Gerar; and so many Ethiopians fell that they could not recover, for they were shattered before the Lord and before His army. And they carried away very much plunder.

14 О ни напали на все поселения вокруг Герара и разрушили их, потому что на их жителей напал страх перед Господом. Они разграбили все эти поселения, унеся с собой много ценных вещей.

They destroyed all the cities around Gerar, for the dread of the Lord had fallen on them; and they despoiled all the cities, for there was much plunder in them.

15 Е ще они напали на кочевья скотоводов и угнали большие стада мелкого скота и верблюдов. Потом они вернулись в Иерусалим.

They also struck down those who owned livestock, and they carried away large numbers of sheep and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.
