1 D urmió Abías con sus padres y fue sepultado en la Ciudad de David. Reinó en su lugar su hijo Asa, en cuyos días tuvo sosiego el país por diez años.

So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David, and his son Asa became king in his place. The land was undisturbed for ten years during his days.

2 A sa hizo lo bueno y lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová, su Dios.

Asa did good and right in the sight of the Lord his God,

3 P orque quitó los altares del culto extraño y los lugares altos; quebró las imágenes y destruyó los símbolos de Asera;

for he removed the foreign altars and high places, tore down the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherim,

4 y mandó a Judá que buscara a Jehová, el Dios de sus padres, y pusiera por obra la Ley y sus mandamientos.

and commanded Judah to seek the Lord God of their fathers and to observe the law and the commandment.

5 Q uitó asimismo de todas las ciudades de Judá los lugares altos y las imágenes; y estuvo el reino en paz bajo su reinado.

He also removed the high places and the incense altars from all the cities of Judah. And the kingdom was undisturbed under him.

6 E dificó ciudades fortificadas en Judá, por cuanto había paz en la tierra, y no había guerra contra él en aquellos tiempos; porque Jehová le había dado paz.

He built fortified cities in Judah, since the land was undisturbed, and there was no one at war with him during those years, because the Lord had given him rest.

7 D ijo, por tanto, a Judá: «Edifiquemos estas ciudades y cerquémoslas de muros con torres, puertas y barras, ya que la tierra es nuestra; porque hemos buscado a Jehová, nuestro Dios; lo hemos buscado, y él nos ha dado paz por todas partes.» Edificaron, pues, y fueron prosperados.

For he said to Judah, “ Let us build these cities and surround them with walls and towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours because we have sought the Lord our God; we have sought Him, and He has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.

8 T uvo también Asa un ejército de trescientos mil hombres de Judá, armado con escudos y lanzas, y doscientos ochenta mil hombres de Benjamín que portaban escudos y entesaban arcos. Todos eran hombres diestros.

Now Asa had an army of 300, 000 from Judah, bearing large shields and spears, and 280, 000 from Benjamin, bearing shields and wielding bows; all of them were valiant warriors.

9 S alió contra ellos Zera, el etíope, con un ejército de un millón de hombres y trescientos carros; y vino hasta Maresa.

Now Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million men and 300 chariots, and he came to Mareshah.

10 E ntonces salió Asa contra él, y se pusieron en orden de batalla en el valle de Sefata, junto a Maresa.

So Asa went out to meet him, and they drew up in battle formation in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

11 Y clamó Asa a Jehová, su Dios, y dijo: «¡Jehová, para ti no hay diferencia alguna en dar ayuda al poderoso o al que no tiene fuerzas! Ayúdanos, Jehová, Dios nuestro, porque en ti nos apoyamos, y en tu nombre marchamos contra este ejército. Jehová, tú eres nuestro Dios; no prevalezca contra ti el hombre.»

Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, “ Lord, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help us, O Lord our God, for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; let not man prevail against You.”

12 J ehová deshizo a los etíopes delante de Asa y delante de Judá; y huyeron los etíopes.

So the Lord routed the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.

13 A sa y el pueblo que con él estaba los persiguieron hasta Gerar; y cayeron los etíopes hasta no quedar ninguno con vida, pues fueron deshechos delante de Jehová y de su ejército. Y les tomaron muy grande botín.

Asa and the people who were with him pursued them as far as Gerar; and so many Ethiopians fell that they could not recover, for they were shattered before the Lord and before His army. And they carried away very much plunder.

14 A tacaron también todas las ciudades alrededor de Gerar, porque el terror de Jehová cayó sobre ellas; y saquearon todas las ciudades, pues había en ellas gran botín.

They destroyed all the cities around Gerar, for the dread of the Lord had fallen on them; and they despoiled all the cities, for there was much plunder in them.

15 A simismo atacaron las cabañas de los que tenían ganado y se llevaron muchas ovejas y camellos. Después volvieron a Jerusalén.

They also struck down those who owned livestock, and they carried away large numbers of sheep and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.
