1 L evantándose entonces todos, llevaron a Jesús a Pilato.

Then the whole body of them got up and brought Him before Pilate.

2 Y comenzaron a acusarlo, diciendo: —Hemos encontrado que este pervierte a la nación, y que prohíbe dar tributo a César diciendo que él mismo es el Cristo, un Rey.

And they began to accuse Him, saying, “We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.”

3 E ntonces Pilato le preguntó, diciendo: —¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos? Respondiéndole él, dijo: —Tú lo dices.

So Pilate asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” And He answered him and said, “ It is as you say.”

4 P ilato dijo a los principales sacerdotes y a la gente: —Ningún delito hallo en este hombre.

Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “ I find no guilt in this man.”

5 P ero ellos porfiaban, diciendo: —Alborota al pueblo, enseñando por toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea hasta aquí. Jesús ante Herodes

But they kept on insisting, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching all over Judea, starting from Galilee even as far as this place.”

6 E ntonces Pilato, cuando oyó decir «Galilea», preguntó si el hombre era galileo.

When Pilate heard it, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.

7 Y al saber que era de la jurisdicción de Herodes, lo remitió a Herodes, que en aquellos días también estaba en Jerusalén.

And when he learned that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who himself also was in Jerusalem at that time. Jesus before Herod

8 H erodes, al ver a Jesús, se alegró mucho, porque hacía tiempo que deseaba verlo, porque había oído muchas cosas acerca de él y esperaba verlo hacer alguna señal.

Now Herod was very glad when he saw Jesus; for he had wanted to see Him for a long time, because he had been hearing about Him and was hoping to see some sign performed by Him.

9 L e hizo muchas preguntas, pero él nada le respondió.

And he questioned Him at some length; but He answered him nothing.

10 E staban los principales sacerdotes y los escribas acusándolo con gran vehemencia.

And the chief priests and the scribes were standing there, accusing Him vehemently.

11 E ntonces Herodes con sus soldados lo menospreció y se burló de él, vistiéndolo con una ropa espléndida; y volvió a enviarlo a Pilato.

And Herod with his soldiers, after treating Him with contempt and mocking Him, dressed Him in a gorgeous robe and sent Him back to Pilate.

12 Y aquel día, Pilato y Herodes, que estaban enemistados, se hicieron amigos. Jesús sentenciado a muerte

Now Herod and Pilate became friends with one another that very day; for before they had been enemies with each other. Pilate Seeks Jesus’ Release

13 E ntonces Pilato, convocando a los principales sacerdotes, a los gobernantes y al pueblo,

Pilate summoned the chief priests and the rulers and the people,

14 l es dijo: —Me habéis presentado a éste como un hombre que perturba al pueblo; pero, habiéndolo interrogado yo delante de vosotros, no he hallado en él delito alguno de aquellos de que lo acusáis.

and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one who incites the people to rebellion, and behold, having examined Him before you, I have found no guilt in this man regarding the charges which you make against Him.

15 N i tampoco Herodes, porque os remití a él. Nada digno de muerte ha hecho este hombre,

No, nor has Herod, for he sent Him back to us; and behold, nothing deserving death has been done by Him.

16 a sí que lo soltaré después de castigarlo.

Therefore I will punish Him and release Him.”

17 T enía necesidad de soltarles uno en cada fiesta.

'> Now he was obliged to release to them at the feast one prisoner.]

18 P ero toda la multitud gritó a una, diciendo: —¡Fuera con ése; suéltanos a Barrabás!

But they cried out all together, saying, “ Away with this man, and release for us Barabbas!”

19 É ste había sido echado en la cárcel por rebelión en la ciudad y por un homicidio.

(He was one who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection made in the city, and for murder.)

20 L es habló otra vez Pilato, queriendo soltar a Jesús;

Pilate, wanting to release Jesus, addressed them again,

21 p ero ellos volvieron a gritar, diciendo: —¡Crucifícalo, crucifícalo!

but they kept on calling out, saying, “Crucify, crucify Him!”

22 É l les dijo por tercera vez: —¿Pues qué mal ha hecho éste? Ningún delito digno de muerte he hallado en él; lo castigaré y lo soltaré.

And he said to them the third time, “Why, what evil has this man done? I have found in Him no guilt demanding death; therefore I will punish Him and release Him.”

23 P ero ellos insistían a gritos, pidiendo que fuera crucificado; y las voces de ellos y de los principales sacerdotes se impusieron.

But they were insistent, with loud voices asking that He be crucified. And their voices began to prevail.

24 E ntonces Pilato sentenció que se hiciera lo que ellos pedían.

And Pilate pronounced sentence that their demand be granted.

25 L es soltó a aquel que había sido echado en la cárcel por rebelión y homicidio, a quien habían pedido, y entregó a Jesús a la voluntad de ellos. Crucifixión y muerte de Jesús

And he released the man they were asking for who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, but he delivered Jesus to their will. Simon Bears the Cross

26 C uando lo llevaban, tomaron a cierto Simón de Cirene, que venía del campo, y le pusieron encima la cruz para que la llevara tras Jesús.

When they led Him away, they seized a man, Simon of Cyrene, coming in from the country, and placed on him the cross to carry behind Jesus.

27 L o seguía una gran multitud del pueblo, y de mujeres que lloraban y hacían lamentación por él.

And following Him was a large crowd of the people, and of women who were mourning and lamenting Him.

28 P ero Jesús, volviéndose hacia ellas, les dijo: —Hijas de Jerusalén, no lloréis por mí, sino llorad por vosotras mismas y por vuestros hijos,

But Jesus turning to them said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weeping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.

29 p orque vendrán días en que dirán: “Bienaventuradas las estériles y los vientres que no concibieron y los pechos que no criaron.”

For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘ Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’

30 E ntonces comenzarán a decir a los montes: “Caed sobre nosotros”, y a los collados: “Cubridnos”,

Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’

31 p orque si en el árbol verde hacen estas cosas, ¿en el seco, qué no se hará?

For if they do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”

32 L levaban también con él a otros dos, que eran malhechores, para ser ejecutados.

Two others also, who were criminals, were being led away to be put to death with Him. The Crucifixion

33 C uando llegaron al lugar llamado de la Calavera, lo crucificaron allí, y a los malhechores, uno a la derecha y otro a la izquierda.

When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.

34 J esús decía: —Padre, perdónalos, porque no saben lo que hacen. Y repartieron entre sí sus vestidos, echando suertes.

But Jesus was saying, “ Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.

35 E l pueblo estaba mirando, y aun los gobernantes se burlaban de él diciendo: —A otros salvó; sálvese a sí mismo, si éste es el Cristo, el escogido de Dios.

And the people stood by, looking on. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, “He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One.”

36 L os soldados también se burlaban de él, y se acercaban ofreciéndole vinagre

The soldiers also mocked Him, coming up to Him, offering Him sour wine,

37 y diciendo: —Si tú eres el Rey de los judíos, sálvate a ti mismo.

and saying, “ If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!”

38 H abía también sobre él un título escrito con letras griegas, latinas y hebreas: «Éste es el Rey de los judíos».

Now there was also an inscription above Him, “ THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

39 U no de los malhechores que estaban colgados lo insultaba diciendo: —Si tú eres el Cristo, sálvate a ti mismo y a nosotros.

One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, “Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!”

40 R espondiendo el otro, lo reprendió, diciendo: —¿Ni siquiera estando en la misma condenación temes tú a Dios?

But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?

41 N osotros, a la verdad, justamente padecemos, porque recibimos lo que merecieron nuestros hechos; pero éste ningún mal hizo.

And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.”

42 Y dijo a Jesús: —Acuérdate de mí cuando vengas en tu Reino.

And he was saying, “Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!”

43 E ntonces Jesús le dijo: —De cierto te digo que hoy estarás conmigo en el paraíso.

And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise.”

44 C uando era como la hora sexta, hubo tinieblas sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora novena.

It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour,

45 E l sol se oscureció y el velo del Templo se rasgó por la mitad.

because the sun was obscured; and the veil of the temple was torn in two.

46 E ntonces Jesús, clamando a gran voz, dijo: —Padre, en tus manos encomiendo mi espíritu. Habiendo dicho esto, expiró.

And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last.

47 C uando el centurión vio lo que había acontecido, dio gloria a Dios diciendo: —Verdaderamente este hombre era justo.

Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent.”

48 T oda la multitud de los que estaban presentes en este espectáculo, viendo lo que había acontecido, se volvían golpeándose el pecho.

And all the crowds who came together for this spectacle, when they observed what had happened, began to return, beating their breasts.

49 P ero todos sus conocidos, y las mujeres que lo habían seguido desde Galilea, estaban mirando estas cosas de lejos. Jesús es sepultado

And all His acquaintances and the women who accompanied Him from Galilee were standing at a distance, seeing these things. Jesus Is Buried

50 H abía un varón llamado José, de Arimatea, ciudad de Judea, el cual era miembro del Concilio, hombre bueno y justo.

And a man named Joseph, who was a member of the Council, a good and righteous man

51 É ste, que también esperaba el reino de Dios y no había consentido en el acuerdo ni en los hechos de ellos,

(he had not consented to their plan and action), a man from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who was waiting for the kingdom of God;

52 f ue a Pilato y pidió el cuerpo de Jesús.

this man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.

53 B ajándolo de la cruz, lo envolvió en una sábana y lo puso en un sepulcro abierto en una peña, en el cual aún no se había puesto a nadie.

And he took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had ever lain.

54 E ra día de la preparación y estaba para comenzar el sábado.

It was the preparation day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.

55 L as mujeres que lo habían acompañado desde Galilea lo siguieron y vieron el sepulcro y cómo fue puesto su cuerpo.

Now the women who had come with Him out of Galilee followed, and saw the tomb and how His body was laid.

56 A l regresar, prepararon especias aromáticas y ungüentos; y descansaron el sábado, conforme al mandamiento.

Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
