1 P alabra de Jehová que vino a Joel hijo de Petuel.

The word of the Lord that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel:

2 « Oíd esto, ancianos, y escuchad, todos los moradores de la tierra. ¿Ha acontecido algo semejante en vuestros días o en los días de vuestros padres?

Hear this, O elders, And listen, all inhabitants of the land. Has anything like this happened in your days Or in your fathers’ days?

3 D e esto contaréis a vuestros hijos, y vuestros hijos a sus hijos, y sus hijos a la siguiente generación.

Tell your sons about it, And let your sons tell their sons, And their sons the next generation.

4 L o que dejó la oruga se lo comió el saltón; lo que dejó el saltón se lo comió el revoltón; y la langosta se comió lo que el revoltón había dejado.

What the gnawing locust has left, the swarming locust has eaten; And what the swarming locust has left, the creeping locust has eaten; And what the creeping locust has left, the stripping locust has eaten.

5 » Despertad, borrachos, y llorad; gemid, todos los que bebéis vino, porque el vino se os ha quitado de vuestra boca.

Awake, drunkards, and weep; And wail, all you wine drinkers, On account of the sweet wine That is cut off from your mouth.

6 P orque un pueblo fuerte e innumerable subió a mi tierra; sus dientes son dientes de león, y sus muelas, muelas de león.

For a nation has invaded my land, Mighty and without number; Its teeth are the teeth of a lion, And it has the fangs of a lioness.

7 A soló mi vid y descortezó mi higuera; del todo la desnudó y derribó; sus ramas quedaron blancas.

It has made my vine a waste And my fig tree splinters. It has stripped them bare and cast them away; Their branches have become white.

8 » Llora tú, como joven vestida de ropas ásperas por el marido de su juventud.

Wail like a virgin girded with sackcloth For the bridegroom of her youth.

9 D esapareció de la casa de Jehová la ofrenda y la libación; los sacerdotes ministros de Jehová están de duelo.

The grain offering and the drink offering are cut off From the house of the Lord. The priests mourn, The ministers of the Lord.

10 E l campo está asolado y se enlutó la tierra, porque el trigo fue destruido, el mosto está pasado y se perdió el aceite.

The field is ruined, The land mourns; For the grain is ruined, The new wine dries up, Fresh oil fails.

11 » Confundíos, labradores; gemid, viñadores, por el trigo y la cebada, porque se perdió la mies del campo.

Be ashamed, O farmers, Wail, O vinedressers, For the wheat and the barley; Because the harvest of the field is destroyed.

12 L a vid está seca y pereció la higuera; también el granado, la palmera y el manzano: Todos los árboles del campo se secaron. Y así se extinguió el gozo de los hijos de los hombres.

The vine dries up And the fig tree fails; The pomegranate, the palm also, and the apple tree, All the trees of the field dry up. Indeed, rejoicing dries up From the sons of men.

13 » Vestíos de luto y lamentad, sacerdotes; gemid, ministros del altar; venid, dormid con ropas ásperas, ministros de mi Dios; porque quitada es de la casa de vuestro Dios la ofrenda y la libación.

Gird yourselves with sackcloth And lament, O priests; Wail, O ministers of the altar! Come, spend the night in sackcloth O ministers of my God, For the grain offering and the drink offering Are withheld from the house of your God. Starvation and Drought

14 P roclamad ayuno, convocad asamblea, congregad a los ancianos y a todos los moradores de la tierra en la casa de Jehová, vuestro Dios, y clamad a Jehová.

Consecrate a fast, Proclaim a solemn assembly; Gather the elders And all the inhabitants of the land To the house of the Lord your God, And cry out to the Lord.

15 » ¡Ay del día!, porque cercano está el día de Jehová; vendrá como destrucción de parte del Todopoderoso.

Alas for the day! For the day of the Lord is near, And it will come as destruction from the Almighty.

16 ¿ No fue arrebatado el alimento de delante de nuestros ojos, la alegría y el placer de la casa de nuestro Dios?

Has not food been cut off before our eyes, Gladness and joy from the house of our God?

17 E l grano se pudrió debajo de los terrones; los graneros fueron asolados y los silos destruidos porque se había secado el trigo.

The seeds shrivel under their clods; The storehouses are desolate, The barns are torn down, For the grain is dried up.

18 ¡ Cómo gemían las bestias! ¡Cuán turbados andaban los hatos de los bueyes, porque no tenían pastos! Y fueron también asolados los rebaños de las ovejas.

How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle wander aimlessly Because there is no pasture for them; Even the flocks of sheep suffer.

19 » A ti, Jehová, clamaré; porque el fuego consumió los pastos del desierto, la llama abrasó los árboles del campo.

To You, O Lord, I cry; For fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness And the flame has burned up all the trees of the field.

20 L as bestias del campo bramarán también a ti, pues se secaron los arroyos de las aguas, y el fuego consumió las praderas del desierto.

Even the beasts of the field pant for You; For the water brooks are dried up And fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
