1 E n cuanto a lo sacrificado a los ídolos, sabemos que todos tenemos el debido conocimiento. El conocimiento envanece, pero el amor edifica.

Now concerning things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge makes arrogant, but love edifies.

2 Y si alguno se imagina que sabe algo, aún no sabe nada como debería saberlo.

If anyone supposes that he knows anything, he has not yet known as he ought to know;

3 P ero si alguno ama a Dios, es conocido por él.

but if anyone loves God, he is known by Him.

4 A cerca, pues, de los alimentos que se sacrifican a los ídolos, sabemos que un ídolo nada es en el mundo, y que no hay más que un Dios.

Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that there is no such thing as an idol in the world, and that there is no God but one.

5 A unque haya algunos que se llamen dioses, sea en el cielo o en la tierra (como hay muchos dioses y muchos señores),

For even if there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords,

6 p ara nosotros, sin embargo, sólo hay un Dios, el Padre, del cual proceden todas las cosas y para quien nosotros existimos; y un Señor, Jesucristo, por medio del cual han sido creadas todas las cosas y por quien nosotros también existimos.

yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.

7 P ero no en todos hay este conocimiento, pues algunos, habituados hasta aquí a la idolatría, comen como si el alimento fuera sacrificado a ídolos, y su conciencia, que es débil, se contamina,

However not all men have this knowledge; but some, being accustomed to the idol until now, eat food as if it were sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

8 s i bien la vianda no nos hace más aceptos ante Dios, pues ni porque comamos seremos más, ni porque no comamos seremos menos.

But food will not commend us to God; we are neither the worse if we do not eat, nor the better if we do eat.

9 P ero procurad que esta libertad vuestra no venga a ser tropezadero para los débiles,

But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.

10 p orque si alguien te ve a ti, que tienes conocimiento, sentado a la mesa en un lugar dedicado a los ídolos, la conciencia de aquél, que es débil, ¿no será estimulada a comer de lo sacrificado a los ídolos?

For if someone sees you, who have knowledge, dining in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be strengthened to eat things sacrificed to idols?

11 Y así, por tu conocimiento, se perderá el hermano débil por quien Cristo murió.

For through your knowledge he who is weak is ruined, the brother for whose sake Christ died.

12 D e esta manera, pues, pecando contra los hermanos e hiriendo su débil conciencia, contra Cristo pecáis.

And so, by sinning against the brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.

13 P or lo cual, si la comida le es a mi hermano ocasión de caer, no comeré carne jamás, para no poner tropiezo a mi hermano.

Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.
