1 E n el año treinta y seis del reinado de Asa, subió Baasa, rey de Israel, contra Judá, y fortificó a Ramá, para cortarle toda comunicación a Asa, rey de Judá.

In the thirty-sixth year of Asa’s reign Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah and fortified Ramah in order to prevent anyone from going out or coming in to Asa king of Judah.

2 E ntonces sacó Asa la plata y el oro de los tesoros de la casa de Jehová y de la casa real, y envió mensajeros a Ben-adad, rey de Siria, que estaba en Damasco, diciendo:

Then Asa brought out silver and gold from the treasuries of the house of the Lord and the king’s house, and sent them to Ben-hadad king of Aram, who lived in Damascus, saying,

3 « Haya alianza entre tú y yo, como la hubo entre tu padre y mi padre. Aquí te envío plata y oro para que vengas y deshagas la alianza que tienes con Baasa, rey de Israel, a fin de que se aleje de mí.»

“ Let there be a treaty between you and me, as between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent you silver and gold; go, break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so that he will withdraw from me.”

4 C onsintió Ben-adad con el rey Asa y envió los capitanes de sus ejércitos contra las ciudades de Israel; conquistaron Ijón, Dan, Abel-maim y las ciudades de aprovisionamiento de Neftalí.

So Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel, and they conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel-maim and all the store cities of Naphtali.

5 C uando Baasa lo supo, cesó de edificar a Ramá y abandonó su obra.

When Baasha heard of it, he ceased fortifying Ramah and stopped his work.

6 E ntonces el rey Asa tomó a todo Judá, y se llevaron de Ramá la piedra y la madera con que Baasa edificaba; y con ellas edificó Geba y Mizpa.

Then King Asa brought all Judah, and they carried away the stones of Ramah and its timber with which Baasha had been building, and with them he fortified Geba and Mizpah. Asa Imprisons the Prophet

7 E n aquel tiempo vino el vidente Hanani ante Asa, rey de Judá, y le dijo: «Por cuanto te has apoyado en el rey de Siria, y no te apoyaste en Jehová, tu Dios, por eso el ejército del rey de Siria ha escapado de tus manos.

At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him, “ Because you have relied on the king of Aram and have not relied on the Lord your God, therefore the army of the king of Aram has escaped out of your hand.

8 L os etíopes y los libios, ¿no eran un ejército numerosísimo, con carros y mucha gente de a caballo? Con todo, porque te apoyaste en Jehová, él los entregó en tus manos.

Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubim an immense army with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet because you relied on the Lord, He delivered them into your hand.

9 P orque los ojos de Jehová contemplan toda la tierra, para mostrar su poder a favor de los que tienen un corazón perfecto para con él. Locamente has procedido en esto; por eso de aquí en adelante habrá más guerra contra ti.»

For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. You have acted foolishly in this. Indeed, from now on you will surely have wars.”

10 E ntonces se enojó Asa contra el vidente y lo echó en la cárcel, pues se encolerizó mucho contra él a causa de esto. También oprimió Asa en aquel tiempo a algunos del pueblo. Muerte de Asa

Then Asa was angry with the seer and put him in prison, for he was enraged at him for this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

11 P ero los hechos de Asa, los primeros y los últimos, están escritos en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.

Now, the acts of Asa from first to last, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.

12 E n el año treinta y nueve de su reinado, Asa enfermó gravemente de los pies, pero en su enfermedad tampoco buscó a Jehová, sino a los médicos.

In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa became diseased in his feet. His disease was severe, yet even in his disease he did not seek the Lord, but the physicians.

13 Y durmió Asa con sus padres; murió en el año cuarenta y uno de su reinado.

So Asa slept with his fathers, having died in the forty-first year of his reign.

14 L o sepultaron en los sepulcros que él había hecho para sí en la Ciudad de David; y lo pusieron en un ataúd, el cual llenaron de perfumes y diversas especias aromáticas, preparadas por expertos perfumistas; e hicieron un gran fuego en su honor.

They buried him in his own tomb which he had cut out for himself in the city of David, and they laid him in the resting place which he had filled with spices of various kinds blended by the perfumers’ art; and they made a very great fire for him.
