1 E n cuanto a lo sacrificado a los ídolos, sabemos que todos tenemos conocimiento. El conocimiento envanece, pero el amor edifica.

Now concerning things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge makes arrogant, but love edifies.

2 S i alguno cree que sabe algo, no ha aprendido todavía como lo debe saber;

If anyone supposes that he knows anything, he has not yet known as he ought to know;

3 p ero si alguno ama a Dios, ése es conocido por El.

but if anyone loves God, he is known by Him.

4 P or tanto, en cuanto a comer de lo sacrificado a los ídolos, sabemos que un ídolo no es nada en el mundo, y que no hay sino un solo Dios.

Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that there is no such thing as an idol in the world, and that there is no God but one.

5 P orque aunque haya algunos llamados dioses, ya sea en el cielo o en la tierra, como por cierto hay muchos dioses y muchos señores,

For even if there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords,

6 s in embargo, para nosotros hay un solo Dios, el Padre, de quien proceden todas las cosas y nosotros somos para El; y un Señor, Jesucristo, por quien son todas las cosas y por medio del cual existimos nosotros.

yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.

7 S in embargo, no todos tienen este conocimiento; sino que algunos, estando acostumbrados al ídolo hasta ahora, comen alimento como si éste fuera sacrificado a un ídolo; y su conciencia, siendo débil, se mancha.

However not all men have this knowledge; but some, being accustomed to the idol until now, eat food as if it were sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

8 P ero la comida no nos recomendará a Dios, pues ni somos menos si no comemos, ni somos más si comemos.

But food will not commend us to God; we are neither the worse if we do not eat, nor the better if we do eat.

9 M as tened cuidado, no sea que esta vuestra libertad de alguna manera se convierta en piedra de tropiezo para el débil.

But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.

10 P orque si alguno te ve a ti, que tienes conocimiento, sentado a la mesa en un templo de ídolos, ¿no será estimulada su conciencia, si él es débil, a comer lo sacrificado a los ídolos ?

For if someone sees you, who have knowledge, dining in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be strengthened to eat things sacrificed to idols?

11 Y por tu conocimiento se perderá el que es débil, el hermano por quien Cristo murió.

For through your knowledge he who is weak is ruined, the brother for whose sake Christ died.

12 Y así, al pecar contra los hermanos y herir su conciencia cuando ésta es débil, pecáis contra Cristo.

And so, by sinning against the brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.

13 P or consiguiente, si la comida hace que mi hermano tropiece, no comeré carne jamás, para no hacer tropezar a mi hermano.

Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.
