1 ¿ No soy libre ? ¿No soy apóstol ? ¿No he visto a Jesús nuestro Señor ? ¿No sois vosotros mi obra en el Señor ?

Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not my work in the Lord?

2 S i para otros no soy apóstol, por lo menos para vosotros sí lo soy; pues vosotros sois el sello de mi apostolado en el Señor.

If to others I am not an apostle, at least I am to you; for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

3 M i defensa contra los que me examinan es ésta:

My defense to those who examine me is this:

4 ¿ Acaso no tenemos derecho a comer y beber ?

Do we not have a right to eat and drink?

5 ¿ Acaso no tenemos derecho a llevar con nosotros una esposa creyente, así como los demás apóstoles y los hermanos del Señor y Cefas ?

Do we not have a right to take along a believing wife, even as the rest of the apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas?

6 ¿ O acaso sólo Bernabé y yo no tenemos el derecho a no trabajar?

Or do only Barnabas and I not have a right to refrain from working?

7 ¿ Quién ha servido alguna vez como soldado a sus propias expensas? ¿Quién planta una viña y no come de su fruto ? ¿O quién cuida un rebaño y no bebe de la leche del rebaño?

Who at any time serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat the fruit of it? Or who tends a flock and does not use the milk of the flock?

8 ¿ Acaso digo esto según el juicio humano ? ¿No dice también la ley esto mismo?

I am not speaking these things according to human judgment, am I? Or does not the Law also say these things?

9 P ues en la ley de Moisés está escrito: No pondras bozal al buey cuando trilla. ¿Acaso le preocupan a Dios los bueyes ?

For it is written in the Law of Moses, “ You shall not muzzle the ox while he is threshing.” God is not concerned about oxen, is He?

10 ¿ O lo dice especialmente por nosotros? Sí, se escribió por nosotros, porque el que ara debe arar con esperanza, y el que trilla debe trillar con la esperanza de recibir de la cosecha.

Or is He speaking altogether for our sake? Yes, for our sake it was written, because the plowman ought to plow in hope, and the thresher to thresh in hope of sharing the crops.

11 S i en vosotros sembramos lo espiritual, ¿será demasiado que de vosotros cosechemos lo material ?

If we sowed spiritual things in you, is it too much if we reap material things from you?

12 S i otros tienen este derecho sobre vosotros, ¿no lo tenemos aún más nosotros? Sin embargo, no hemos usado este derecho, sino que sufrimos todo para no causar estorbo al evangelio de Cristo.

If others share the right over you, do we not more? Nevertheless, we did not use this right, but we endure all things so that we will cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ.

13 ¿ No sabéis que los que desempeñan los servicios sagrados comen la comida del templo, y los que regularmente sirven al altar, del altar reciben su parte ?

Do you not know that those who perform sacred services eat the food of the temple, and those who attend regularly to the altar have their share from the altar?

14 A sí también ordenó el Señor que los que proclaman el evangelio, vivan del evangelio.

So also the Lord directed those who proclaim the gospel to get their living from the gospel.

15 M as yo de nada de esto me he aprovechado. Y no escribo esto para que así se haga conmigo; porque mejor me fuera morir, que permitir que alguno me prive de esta gloria.

But I have used none of these things. And I am not writing these things so that it will be done so in my case; for it would be better for me to die than have any man make my boast an empty one.

16 P orque si predico el evangelio, no tengo nada de qué gloriarme, pues estoy bajo el deber de hacerlo; pues ¡ay de mí si no predico el evangelio!

For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for I am under compulsion; for woe is me if I do not preach the gospel.

17 P orque si hago esto voluntariamente, tengo recompensa; pero si lo hago en contra de mi voluntad, un encargo se me ha confiado.

For if I do this voluntarily, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me.

18 ¿ Cuál es, entonces, mi recompensa ? Que al predicar el evangelio, pueda ofrecerlo gratuitamente sin hacer pleno uso de mi derecho en el evangelio. Celo evangelizador de Pablo

What then is my reward? That, when I preach the gospel, I may offer the gospel without charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel.

19 P orque aunque soy libre de todos, de todos me he hecho esclavo para ganar al mayor número posible.

For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I may win more.

20 A los judíos me hice como judío, para ganar a los judíos; a los que están bajo la ley, como bajo la ley (aunque yo no estoy bajo la ley ) para ganar a los que están bajo la ley;

To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might win Jews; to those who are under the Law, as under the Law though not being myself under the Law, so that I might win those who are under the Law;

21 a los que están sin ley, como sin ley (aunque no estoy sin la ley de Dios, sino bajo la ley de Cristo ) para ganar a los que están sin ley.

to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without law.

22 A los débiles me hice débil, para ganar a los débiles; a todos me he hecho todo, para que por todos los medios salve a algunos.

To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some.

23 Y todo lo hago por amor del evangelio, para ser partícipe de él. Disciplina personal de Pablo

I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it.

24 ¿ No sabéis que los que corren en el estadio, todos en verdad corren, pero sólo uno obtiene el premio ? Corred de tal modo que ganéis.

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.

25 Y todo el que compite en los juegos se abstiene de todo. Ellos lo hacen para recibir una corona corruptible, pero nosotros, una incorruptible.

Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.

26 P or tanto, yo de esta manera corro, no como sin tener meta; de esta manera peleo, no como dando golpes al aire,

Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air;

27 s ino que golpeo mi cuerpo y lo hago mi esclavo, no sea que habiendo predicado a otros, yo mismo sea descalificado.

but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.
