1 C uando los profetas Hageo y Zacarías, hijo de Iddo, profetizaron a los judíos que estaban en Judá y en Jerusalén, en el nombre del Dios de Israel que estaba sobre ellos,

When the prophets, Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them,

2 Z orobabel, hijo de Salatiel, y Jesúa, hijo de Josadac, se levantaron entonces y comenzaron a reedificar la casa de Dios en Jerusalén; y los profetas de Dios estaban con ellos apoyándolos.

then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak arose and began to rebuild the house of God which is in Jerusalem; and the prophets of God were with them supporting them.

3 E n aquel tiempo Tatnai, gobernador de la provincia al otro lado del río, y Setar-boznai y sus compañeros vinieron a ellos y les hablaron así: ¿Quién os dio orden de reedificar este templo y de terminar este edificio ?

At that time Tattenai, the governor of the province beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai and their colleagues came to them and spoke to them thus, “ Who issued you a decree to rebuild this temple and to finish this structure?”

4 T ambién les dijeron así: ¿Cuáles son los nombres de los hombres que están reedificando este edificio?

Then we told them accordingly what the names of the men were who were reconstructing this building.

5 P ero el ojo de su Dios velaba sobre los ancianos de los judíos, y no les detuvieron la obra hasta que un informe llegara a Darío, y volviera una respuesta escrita tocante al asunto.

But the eye of their God was on the elders of the Jews, and they did not stop them until a report could come to Darius, and then a written reply be returned concerning it. Adversaries Write to Darius

6 E sta es la copia de la carta que Tatnai, gobernador de la provincia al otro lado del río, y Setar-boznai y sus compañeros los oficiales que estaban al otro lado del río, enviaron al rey Darío.

This is the copy of the letter which Tattenai, the governor of the province beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai and his colleagues the officials, who were beyond the River, sent to Darius the king.

7 L e enviaron un informe que estaba escrito así: Al rey Darío, toda paz.

They sent a report to him in which it was written thus: “To Darius the king, all peace.

8 S epa el rey que hemos ido a la provincia de Judá, a la casa del gran Dios, que está siendo edificada con piedras enormes y vigas empotradas en las paredes; y esta obra se adelanta con gran esmero y prospera en sus manos.

Let it be known to the king that we have gone to the province of Judah, to the house of the great God, which is being built with huge stones, and beams are being laid in the walls; and this work is going on with great care and is succeeding in their hands.

9 E ntonces preguntamos a aquellos ancianos, y les dijimos así: “¿Quién os dio orden de reedificar este templo y de terminar este edificio?”

Then we asked those elders and said to them thus, ‘Who issued you a decree to rebuild this temple and to finish this structure?’

10 T ambién les preguntamos sus nombres para informarte, y para dar por escrito los nombres de los hombres que eran sus jefes.

We also asked them their names so as to inform you, and that we might write down the names of the men who were at their head.

11 Y así nos respondieron, diciendo: “Somos los siervos del Dios del cielo y de la tierra, y estamos reedificando el templo que fue construido hace muchos años, el cual un gran rey de Israel edificó y terminó.

Thus they answered us, saying, ‘We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth and are rebuilding the temple that was built many years ago, which a great king of Israel built and finished.

12 P ero como nuestros padres provocaron a ira al Dios del cielo, El los entregó en mano de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, el caldeo, quien destruyó este templo, y deportó al pueblo a Babilonia.

But because our fathers had provoked the God of heaven to wrath, He gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this temple and deported the people to Babylon.

13 S in embargo, en el año primero de Ciro, rey de Babilonia, el rey Ciro proclamó un decreto de que se reedificara esta casa de Dios.

However, in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, King Cyrus issued a decree to rebuild this house of God.

14 T ambién los utensilios de oro y de plata de la casa de Dios, que Nabucodonosor había sacado del templo que estaba en Jerusalén y llevado al templo de Babilonia, los sacó el rey Ciro del templo de Babilonia, y fueron entregados a Sesbasar, a quien había puesto por gobernador.

Also the gold and silver utensils of the house of God which Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, and brought them to the temple of Babylon, these King Cyrus took from the temple of Babylon and they were given to one whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had appointed governor.

15 Y le dijo: “Toma estos utensilios, ve y colócalos en el templo que está en Jerusalén, y que sea la casa de Dios reedificada en su lugar.

He said to him, “Take these utensils, go and deposit them in the temple in Jerusalem and let the house of God be rebuilt in its place.”

16 E ntonces aquel Sesbasar vino y puso los cimientos de la casa de Dios que está en Jerusalén; y desde entonces hasta ahora se sigue construyendo, pero aún no está terminada.”

Then that Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem; and from then until now it has been under construction and it is not yet completed.’

17 Y ahora, si al rey le parece bien, que se busque en la casa del tesoro del rey que está allí en Babilonia, a ver si es que fue proclamado un decreto de parte del rey Ciro para reedificar esta casa de Dios en Jerusalén; y que se nos envíe la decisión del rey en cuanto a este asunto.

“Now if it pleases the king, let a search be conducted in the king’s treasure house, which is there in Babylon, if it be that a decree was issued by King Cyrus to rebuild this house of God at Jerusalem; and let the king send to us his decision concerning this matter.”
