1 Y la serpiente era más astuta que cualquiera de los animales del campo que el Señor Dios había hecho. Y dijo a la mujer: ¿Conque Dios os ha dicho: “No comeréis de ningún árbol del huerto”?

Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?”

2 Y la mujer respondió a la serpiente: Del fruto de los árboles del huerto podemos comer;

The woman said to the serpent, “ From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat;

3 p ero del fruto del árbol que está en medio del huerto, ha dicho Dios: “No comeréis de él, ni lo tocaréis, para que no muráis.”

but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, or you will die.’”

4 Y la serpiente dijo a la mujer: Ciertamente no moriréis.

The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die!

5 P ues Dios sabe que el día que de él comáis, serán abiertos vuestros ojos y seréis como Dios, conociendo el bien y el mal.

For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

6 C uando la mujer vio que el árbol era bueno para comer, y que era agradable a los ojos, y que el árbol era deseable para alcanzar sabiduría, tomó de su fruto y comió; y dio también a su marido que estaba con ella, y él comió.

When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

7 E ntonces fueron abiertos los ojos de ambos, y conocieron que estaban desnudos; y cosieron hojas de higuera y se hicieron delantales. Sentencia por el pecado y promesa de redención

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings.

8 Y oyeron al Señor Dios que se paseaba en el huerto al fresco del día; y el hombre y su mujer se escondieron de la presencia del Señor Dios entre los árboles del huerto.

They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

9 Y el Señor Dios llamó al hombre, y le dijo: ¿Dónde estás ?

Then the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “ Where are you?”

10 Y él respondió: Te oí en el huerto, y tuve miedo porque estaba desnudo, y me escondí.

He said, “ I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.”

11 Y Dios le dijo: ¿Quién te ha hecho saber que estabas desnudo? ¿Has comido del árbol del cual te mandé que no comieras?

And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?”

12 Y el hombre respondió: La mujer que tú me diste por compañera me dio del árbol, y yo comí.

The man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate.”

13 E ntonces el Señor Dios dijo a la mujer: ¿Qué es esto que has hecho? Y la mujer respondió: La serpiente me engañó, y yo comí.

Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” And the woman said, “ The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

14 Y el Señor Dios dijo a la serpiente: Por cuanto has hecho esto, maldita serás más que todos los animales, y más que todas las bestias del campo; sobre tu vientre andarás, y polvo comerás todos los días de tu vida.

The Lord God said to the serpent, “ Because you have done this, Cursed are you more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life;

15 Y pondré enemistad entre tú y la mujer, y entre tu simiente y su simiente; él te herirá en la cabeza, y tú lo herirás en el calcañar.

And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”

16 A la mujer dijo: En gran manera multiplicaré tu dolor en el parto, con dolor darás a luz los hijos; y con todo, tu deseo será para tu marido, y él tendrá dominio sobre ti.

To the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply Your pain in childbirth, In pain you will bring forth children; Yet your desire will be for your husband, And he will rule over you.”

17 E ntonces dijo a Adán: Por cuanto has escuchado la voz de tu mujer y has comido del árbol del cual te ordené, diciendo: “No comerás de él”, maldita será la tierra por tu causa; con trabajo comerás de ella todos los días de tu vida.

Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it All the days of your life.

18 E spinos y abrojos te producirá, y comerás de las plantas del campo.

“Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; And you will eat the plants of the field;

19 C on el sudor de tu rostro comerás el pan hasta que vuelvas a la tierra, porque de ella fuiste tomado; pues polvo eres, y al polvo volverás.

By the sweat of your face You will eat bread, Till you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; For you are dust, And to dust you shall return.”

20 Y el hombre le puso por nombre Eva a su mujer, porque ella era la madre de todos los vivientes.

Now the man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all the living.

21 Y el Señor Dios hizo vestiduras de piel para Adán y su mujer, y los vistió. Castigo por el pecado

The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.

22 E ntonces el Señor Dios dijo: He aquí, el hombre ha venido a ser como uno de nosotros, conociendo el bien y el mal; cuidado ahora no vaya a extender su mano y tomar también del árbol de la vida, y coma y viva para siempre.

Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”—

23 Y el Señor Dios lo echó del huerto del Edén, para que labrara la tierra de la cual fue tomado.

therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken.

24 E xpulsó, pues, al hombre; y al oriente del huerto del Edén puso querubines, y una espada encendida que giraba en todas direcciones, para guardar el camino del árbol de la vida.

So He drove the man out; and at the east of the garden of Eden He stationed the cherubim and the flaming sword which turned every direction to guard the way to the tree of life.
