1 F iul meu, dacă vei primi cuvintele mele şi vei păstra în tine îndrumările mele,

My son, if you receive my sayings and store up my teachings within you,

2 d acă-ţi vei apleca urechea spre înţelepciune şi inima spre pricepere,

make your ear open to wisdom. Turn your heart to understanding.

3 d acă vei cere înţelepciune şi te vei ruga pentru pricepere,

If you cry out to know right from wrong, and lift your voice for understanding;

4 d acă o vei dori ca pe argint şi o vei căuta ca pe o comoară ascunsă,

if you look for her as silver, and look for her as hidden riches;

5 a tunci vei înţelege frica de Domnul şi vei găsi cunoştinţa lui Dumnezeu.

then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find what is known of God.

6 C ăci Domnul dă înţelepciune; din gura Lui iese cunoştinţă şi pricepere.

For the Lord gives wisdom. Much learning and understanding come from His mouth.

7 E l păstrează izbânda pentru cel drept şi este scut pentru cei ce umblă în integritate.

He stores up perfect wisdom for those who are right with Him. He is a safe-covering to those who are right in their walk.

8 E l păzeşte căile judecăţii şi protejează calea credincioşilor Lui.

He watches over the right way, and He keeps safe the way of those who belong to Him.

9 A tunci vei înţelege dreptatea, corectitudinea şi integritatea; vei înţelege orice cale bună.

Then you will understand what is right and good, and right from wrong, and you will know what you should do.

10 C ăci înţelepciunea va veni în inima ta şi cunoaşterea va fi plăcută sufletului tău.

For wisdom will come into your heart. And much learning will be pleasing to your soul.

11 P rudenţa te va proteja şi priceperea te va păzi.

Good thinking will keep you safe. Understanding will watch over you.

12 Î nţelepciunea te va scăpa de calea celui rău, de omul care vorbeşte lucruri stricate,

You will be kept from the sinful man, and from the man who causes much trouble by what he says.

13 d e cel ce părăseşte cărările dreptăţii, ca să umble pe căile întunericului,

You will be kept from the man who leaves the right way to walk in the ways of darkness,

14 c ăruia îi place să facă rău şi se bucură de perversitatea răului,

from the one who is happy doing wrong, and who finds joy in the way of sin.

15 a le cărui cărări sunt întortocheate şi ale cărui drumuri sunt lăturalnice.

His ways are not straight and are not good.

16 E a te va îndepărta de femeia adulteră, de străina care rosteşte cuvinte ademenitoare,

You will be saved from the strange woman, from the sinful woman with her smooth words.

17 d e cea care îşi părăseşte partenerul tinereţii ei şi uită legământul făcut înaintea Dumnezeului ei.

She leaves the husband she had when she was young, and forgets the agreement with her God.

18 C asa ei conduce spre moarte şi urmele ei duc la duhurile celor morţi.

For her house goes down to death, and her steps lead to the dead.

19 N imeni, din cei ce merg la ea, nu se mai întoarce, nici nu mai găseşte cărările vieţii.

None who go to her return again, and they do not find the paths of life.

20 D e aceea tu să mergi pe căile oamenilor buni şi să păstrezi cărările celor drepţi.

So may you walk in the way of good men, and keep to the paths of those who are right and good.

21 C ăci cei drepţi vor locui ţara şi cei integri vor rămâne în ea,

For those who are right with God will live in the land. The men without blame will stay in it,

22 d ar cei răi vor fi stârpiţi din ţară şi cei necredincioşi vor fi smulşi din ea.

but the sinful will be destroyed from the land, and those who are not faithful will be taken away from it.
