1 F iindcă mulţi au încercat să alcătuiască o istorisire amănunţită despre lucrurile care s-au împlinit printre noi,

Many people have written about the things that have happened among us.

2 a şa cum ni le-au încredinţat cei ce au fost de la început martori oculari şi care au ajuns slujitori ai Cuvântului,

Those who saw everything from the first and helped teach the Good News have passed these things on to us.

3 a m decis şi eu, după ce am cercetat cu atenţie toate lucrurile de la început, să ţi le scriu în ordine, prea alesule Teofilus,

Dear Theophilus, I have looked with care into these things from the beginning. I have decided it would be good to write them to you one after the other the way they happened.

4 c a să ajungi astfel să cunoşti întocmai temeinicia lucrurilor despre care ai fost învăţat. Anunţarea naşterii lui Ioan Botezătorul

5 Î n zilele lui Irod, regele Iudeii, era un preot pe nume Zaharia, din ceata preoţească a lui Abia. Soţia lui era dintre fiicele lui Aaron şi se numea Elisabeta.

When Herod was king of the country of Judea, there was a Jewish religious leader named Zacharias. He worked for Abijah. His wife was of the family group of Aaron. Her name was Elizabeth.

6 A mândoi erau drepţi înaintea lui Dumnezeu, trăind fără vină, potrivit cu toate poruncile şi rânduielile Domnului.

They were right with God and obeyed the Jewish Law and did what the Lord said to do.

7 D ar nu aveau nici un copil, fiindcă Elisabeta era stearpă şi amândoi erau acum înaintaţi în vârstă.

They had no children because Elizabeth was not able to have a child. Both of them were older people.

8 Î ntr-o zi, în timp ce Zaharia era de slujbă, pentru că venise rândul cetei lui să slujească înaintea lui Dumnezeu,

Zacharias was doing his work as a religious leader for God.

9 a ieşit la sorţi, după obiceiul preoţiei, să intre în Templul Domnului ca să tămâieze.

The religious leaders were given certain kinds of work to do. Zacharias was chosen to go to the house of God to burn special perfume.

10 L a ora tămâierii, toată mulţimea poporului se ruga afară.

Many people stood outside praying during the time the special perfume was burning.

11 A tunci i s-a arătat un înger al Domnului, stând în picioare la dreapta altarului tămâierii.

Zacharias saw an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar where the special perfume was burning.

12 C ând l-a văzut, Zaharia s-a tulburat şi l-a cuprins frica.

When he saw the angel, Zacharias was troubled and afraid.

13 D ar îngerul i-a zis: – Nu te teme, Zaharia, fiindcă rugăciunea ta a fost ascultată. Soţia ta, Elisabeta, îţi va naşte un fiu şi îi vei pune numele Ioan.

The angel said to him, “Zacharias, do not be afraid. Your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will give birth to a son. You are to name him John.

14 E l va fi bucuria şi veselia ta şi mulţi se vor bucura de naşterea lui,

You will be glad and have much joy. Many people will be happy because he is born.

15 c ăci el va fi mare înaintea Domnului. Nu va bea niciodată vin, nici băutură tare şi va fi umplut de Duhul Sfânt încă din pântecele mamei lui.

He will be great in the sight of the Lord and will never drink wine or any strong drink. Even from his birth, he will be filled with the Holy Spirit.

16 E l îi va întoarce pe mulţi israeliţi la Domnul, Dumnezeul lor.

Many of the Jews will be turned to the Lord their God by him.

17 V a merge înaintea Lui, în duhul şi puterea lui Ilie, ca să întoarcă inimile taţilor spre copii şi pe cei neascultători la înţelepciunea celor drepţi, ca să pregătească Domnului un popor care să fie gata pentru El.

He will be the one to go in the spirit and power of Elijah before Christ comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children. He will teach those who do not obey to be right with God. He will get people ready for the Lord.” Zacharias Does Not Believe the Angel

18 Z aharia l-a întrebat pe înger: – După ce voi cunoaşte lucrul acesta? Căci eu sunt bătrân, iar soţia mea este înaintată în vârstă!

Zacharias said to the angel, “How can I know this for sure? I am old and my wife is old also.”

19 Î ngerul i-a răspuns: – Eu sunt Gabriel, cel care stă în prezenţa lui Dumnezeu, şi am fost trimis să vorbesc cu tine şi să-ţi aduc aceste veşti bune.

The angel said to him, “My name is Gabriel. I stand near God. He sent me to talk to you and bring to you this good news.

20 I ată că vei fi mut şi nu vei mai putea vorbi până în ziua când se vor întâmpla aceste lucruri, pentru că n-ai crezut cuvintele mele, care se vor împlini la vremea lor.

See! You will not be able to talk until the day this happens. It is because you did not believe my words. What I said will happen at the right time.”

21 O amenii îl aşteptau pe Zaharia şi se mirau de întârzierea lui în Templu.

The people outside were waiting. They were surprised and wondered why Zacharias stayed so long in the house of God.

22 C ând a ieşit, nu putea să le vorbească, astfel că ei au înţeles că avusese o vedenie în Templu. El a continuat să le facă semne şi să rămână mai departe mut.

When he came out, he could not talk to them. They knew he had seen something special from God while he was in the house of God. He tried to talk to them with his hands but could say nothing.

23 C ând i s-au terminat zilele de slujire, s-a dus acasă.

When his days of working in the house of God were over, he went to his home. The Lord Did What He Promised

24 D upă un timp, Elisabeta, soţia lui, a rămas însărcinată. Ea s-a ţinut ascunsă timp de cinci luni, zicând:

Some time later Elizabeth knew she was to become a mother. She kept herself hidden for five months. She said,

25 „ Iată ce mi-a făcut Domnul atunci când a privit spre mine, înlăturându-mi dispreţul pe care l-am îndurat între oameni!“ Anunţarea naşterii lui Isus

“This is what the Lord has done for me. He has looked on me and has taken away my shame from among men.” Gabriel Speaks to Mary

26 Î n luna a şasea, îngerul Gabriel a fost trimis de Dumnezeu într-o cetate din Galileea, numită Nazaret,

Six months after Elizabeth knew she was to become a mother, Gabriel was sent from God to Nazareth. Nazareth was a town in the country of Galilee.

27 l a o fecioară logodită cu un bărbat al cărui nume era Iosif, din casa lui David. Numele fecioarei era Maria.

He went to a woman who had never had a man. Her name was Mary. She was promised in marriage to a man named Joseph. Joseph was of the family of David.

28 Î ngerul a intrat la ea şi i-a zis: – Plecăciune, ţie căreia ţi s-a arătat bunăvoinţă! Domnul este cu tine! (Binecuvântată eşti tu între femei!)

The angel came to her and said, “You are honored very much. You are a favored woman. The Lord is with you. You are chosen from among many women.”

29 E a a fost foarte tulburată de mesajul îngerului şi se gândea ce ar putea să însemne salutul acesta.

When she saw the angel, she was troubled at his words. She thought about what had been said.

30 Î ngerul i-a zis: – Nu te teme, Maria, pentru că ai găsit har din partea lui Dumnezeu!

The angel said to her, “Mary, do not be afraid. You have found favor with God.

31 I ată că vei rămâne însărcinată şi vei naşte un Fiu, Căruia Îi vei pune numele Isus.

See! You are to become a mother and have a Son. You are to give Him the name Jesus.

32 E l va fi mare şi va fi numit „Fiul Celui Preaînalt“, iar Domnul Dumnezeu Îi va da tronul strămoşului Său, David.

He will be great. He will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the place where His early father David sat.

33 V a împărăţi peste casa lui Iacov în veci şi Împărăţia Lui nu va avea sfârşit!

He will be King over the family of Jacob forever and His nation will have no end.”

34 M aria l-a întrebat pe înger: – Cum se va întâmpla lucrul acesta de vreme ce eu nu ştiu de bărbat?

Mary said to the angel, “How will this happen? I have never had a man.”

35 Î ngerul i-a răspuns: – Duhul Sfânt Se va coborî peste tine şi puterea Celui Preaînalt te va umbri! De aceea Sfântul Care se va naşte va fi numit „Fiul lui Dumnezeu“.

The angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come on you. The power of the Most High will cover you. The holy Child you give birth to will be called the Son of God.

36 I ată că Elisabeta, ruda ta, a conceput şi ea un fiu, la bătrâneţe; şi ea, care era numită stearpă, este acum în luna a şasea!

“See, your cousin Elizabeth, as old as she is, is going to give birth to a child. She was not able to have children before, but now she is in her sixth month.

37 C ăci nimic nu este imposibil cu Dumnezeu.

For God can do all things.”

38 M aria a zis: – Iată-mă, sunt sclava Domnului! Facă-mi-se după cuvântul tău! Şi îngerul a plecat de la ea. Maria în vizită la Elisabeta

Then Mary said, “I am willing to be used of the Lord. Let it happen to me as you have said.” Then the angel went away from her. Mary Visits Elizabeth

39 Î n zilele acelea, Maria s-a sculat şi s-a dus în grabă spre regiunea muntoasă, într-o cetate a lui Iuda.

At once Mary went from there to a town in the hill country of Judea.

40 E a a intrat în casa lui Zaharia şi a salutat-o pe Elisabeta.

She went to the house of Zacharias to see Elizabeth.

41 C ând Elisabeta a auzit salutul Mariei, copilul a săltat în pântecele ei, şi Elisabeta a fost umplută de Duhul Sfânt.

When Elizabeth heard Mary speak, the baby moved in her body. At the same time Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

42 E a a exclamat cu glas tare: „Binecuvântată eşti tu între femei şi binecuvântat este rodul pântecelui tău!

Elizabeth spoke in a loud voice, “You are honored among women! Your Child is honored!

43 C um de mi-a fost dat să vină la mine mama Domnului meu?!

Why has this happened to me? Why has the mother of my Lord come to me?

44 C ăci iată, de îndată ce am auzit salutul tău, mi-a săltat copilul în pântece de bucurie!

As soon as I heard your voice, the baby in my body moved for joy.

45 F erice de cea care a crezut că vor fi împlinite lucrurile care i-au fost spuse de Domnul!“ Cântecul Mariei

You are happy because you believed. Everything will happen as the Lord told you it would happen.” Mary’s Song of Thanks

46 M aria a zis: „Sufletul meu Îl preamăreşte pe Domnul

Then Mary said, “My heart sings with thanks for my Lord.

47 ş i mi se bucură nespus duhul în Dumnezeu, Mântuitorul meu,

And my spirit is happy in God, the One Who saves from the punishment of sin.

48 p entru că a privit la starea smerită a sclavei Sale! Iată că de acum încolo, toate generaţiile mă vor considera fericită

The Lord has looked on me, His servant-girl and one who is not important. But from now on all people will honor me.

49 p entru că Cel Atotputernic a făcut lucruri mari pentru mine! Numele Lui este sfânt!

He Who is powerful has done great things for me. His name is holy.

50 Î ndurarea Lui ţine din generaţie în generaţie faţă de cei ce se tem de El!

The loving-kindness of the Lord is given to the people of all times who honor Him.

51 E l a înfăptuit o minune prin braţul Lui; i-a împrăştiat pe cei mândri în cugetul inimii lor.

He has done powerful works with His arm. He has divided from each other those who have pride in their hearts.

52 I -a dat jos pe cei puternici de pe tronurile lor şi i-a înălţat pe cei smeriţi.

He has taken rulers down from their thrones. He has put those who are in a place that is not important to a place that is important.

53 P e cei flămânzi i-a săturat cu bunătăţi, iar pe cei bogaţi i-a dat afară cu mâinile goale.

He has filled those who are hungry with good things. He has sent the rich people away with nothing.

54 E l l-a ajutat pe Israel, slujitorul Său, amintindu-Şi de îndurarea Sa,

He has helped Israel His servant. This was done to remember His loving-kindness.

55 a şa cum le spusese strămoşilor noştri, lui Avraam şi seminţei lui, în veci!“

He promised He would do this to our early fathers and to Abraham and to his family forever.”

56 M aria a rămas împreună cu Elisabeta în jur de trei luni şi apoi s-a întors acasă. Naşterea lui Ioan Botezătorul

Mary stayed with Elizabeth about three months. Then she went to her own home. The Birth of John the Baptist

57 C ând i s-a împlinit vremea să nască, Elisabeta a născut un băiat.

When the time came, Elizabeth gave birth to a son.

58 V ecinii şi rudele au auzit că Domnul Şi-a arătat marea îndurare faţă de ea şi s-au bucurat împreună cu ea.

Her neighbors and family heard how the Lord had shown loving-kindness to her. They were happy for her.

59 Î n ziua a opta, au venit să circumcidă copilul. Voiau să-i pună numele Zaharia, după numele tatălui său,

On the eighth day they did the religious act of the Jews on the child. They named him Zacharias, after his father.

60 d ar mama lui a zis: „Nu, ci îl va chema Ioan!“

But his mother said, “No! His name is John.”

61 E i i-au zis: „Nu este nimeni între rudele tale care să poarte acest nume!“

They said to her, “No one in your family has that name.”

62 Ş i îi făceau semne tatălui copilului, ca să ştie ce nume doreşte să-i dea.

Then they talked to his father with their hands to find out what he would name the child.

63 E l a cerut o tăbliţă şi a scris: „Numele lui este Ioan.“ Şi toţi s-au minunat.

He asked for something to write on. He wrote, “His name is John.” They were all surprised and wondered about it.

64 I mediat i-a fost deschisă gura, i-a fost dezlegată limba şi a început să vorbească, binecuvântându-L pe Dumnezeu.

Zacharias was able to talk from that time on and he gave thanks to God.

65 P e toţi vecinii lor i-a cuprins frica şi în întreaga regiune muntoasă a Iudeii se vorbea despre toate aceste lucruri.

All those who lived near them were afraid. The news of what had happened was told through all the hill country of Judea.

66 T oţi cei ce le auzeau, le păstrau în inima lor, spunând: „Oare ce va deveni acest copil?“ Căci mâna Domnului era cu el. Cântecul lui Zaharia

And all who heard those words remembered them and said, “What is this child going to be?” For the hand of the Lord was on him. Zacharias’ Song of Thanks to God

67 Z aharia, tatăl lui, a fost umplut de Duhul Sfânt şi a profeţit astfel:

Zacharias, the father of John, was filled with the Holy Spirit. He told what was going to happen, saying,

68 „ Binecuvântat să fie Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, pentru că a venit în ajutor şi Şi-a răscumpărat poporul!

“Let us thank the Lord God of Israel. He has bought His people and made them free.

69 E l ne-a ridicat un corn al mântuirii în casa slujitorului Său David,

He has raised up from the family of David One Who saves people from the punishment of their sins.

70 a şa cum a spus prin gura sfinţilor Săi profeţi din vechime,

His holy early preachers told us this long ago.

71 ş i ne-a adus izbăvire de duşmanii noştri şi din mâinile celor ce ne urăsc.

God told us that we should be saved from those who hate us and from all those who work against us.

72 E l Îşi arată astfel îndurarea faţă de strămoşii noştri şi Îşi aduce aminte de legământul Lui cel sfânt,

He would show loving-kindness to our early fathers. He would remember His holy promise.

73 d e jurământul pe care i l-a făcut lui Avraam, tatăl nostru, potrivit căruia, ne va da voie,

God promised this to our early father Abraham.

74 i zbăviţi fiind din mâna duşmanilor noştri, să-I slujim fără teamă,

He promised that we would be saved from those who hate us and that we might worship Him without being afraid.

75 î n sfinţenie şi dreptate înaintea Lui, în toate zilele noastre.

We can be holy and right with God all the days of our life.

76 I ar tu, copile, vei fi numit profet al Celui Preaînalt! Căci vei merge înaintea Domnului ca să pregăteşti căile Lui,

“And you, my son, will be the one who speaks for the Most High. For you will go before the Lord to make the way ready for Him.

77 s ă dai poporului Său cunoştinţa mântuirii, prin iertarea păcatelor lui,

You will tell His people how to be saved from the punishment of sin by being forgiven of their sins.

78 d atorită îndurării nemărginite a Dumnezeului nostru, în urma căreia va veni în ajutorul nostru Soarele din înălţime,

Because the heart of our God is full of loving-kindness for us, a light from heaven will shine on us.

79 c a să strălucească peste cei aflaţi în întuneric şi în umbra morţii, ca să ne călăuzească picioarele pe calea păcii.“

It will give light to those who live in darkness and are under the shadow of death. It will lead our feet in the way of peace.”

80 C opilul creştea şi se întărea în duh. El a stat în locuri pustii până în ziua apariţiei lui în poporul Israel.

The child grew and became strong in spirit. He lived in a desert until the day he started to preach to the Jews.
