1 Î n acea perioadă, Merodak-Baladan, fiul lui Baladan, regele Babilonului, i-a trimis lui Ezechia scrisori şi un dar, fiindcă auzise că acesta fusese bolnav şi se însănătoşise.

At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah. He heard that he had been sick and had become well.

2 E zechia i-a primit pe soli şi le-a arătat ceea ce era în vistieria sa: argintul, aurul, mirodeniile, uleiul de preţ, tot armamentul lui şi tot ce se afla în magaziile lui. Nu a rămas nimic în palatul sau în regatul său pe care Ezechia să nu-l fi arătat.

Hezekiah was pleased and showed them all his store-house of riches. He showed them the silver, the gold, the spices, the oil of much worth, and all his objects used in battle. He showed them everything that was in his store-houses. There was nothing in his house or under his rule that Hezekiah did not show them.

3 A tunci profetul Isaia a venit la regele Ezechia şi l-a întrebat: – Ce au zis oamenii aceia şi de unde au venit? Ezechia i-a răspuns: – Au venit la mine dintr-o ţară îndepărtată, din Babilon.

Then Isaiah the man of God came to King Hezekiah and said to him, “What did these men say? From where have they come to you?” And Hezekiah said, “They have come to me from a far country, from Babylon.”

4 – Ce au văzut în palatul tău? l-a mai întrebat profetul. – Au văzut tot ceea ce este în palatul meu, a răspuns Ezechia, şi nu a rămas nimic în magaziile mele pe care să nu li-l fi arătat.

Isaiah said, “What have they seen in your house?” Hezekiah answered, “They have seen everything in my house. There is nothing among my riches that I have not shown them.”

5 A tunci Isaia i-a zis lui Ezechia: – Ascultă Cuvântul Domnului Oştirilor:

Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the Word of the Lord of All:

6 „ Iată, vin zile când tot ce este în palatul tău şi tot ce au agonisit strămoşii tăi până în ziua aceasta, va fi dus la Babilon; nu va mai fi lăsat nimic, zice Domnul.

‘See, the days are coming when everything in your house, and everything your fathers have stored up to this day, will be carried to Babylon. Nothing will be left,’ says the Lord.

7 U nii dintre propriii tăi fii, care ţi s-au născut, îţi vor fi luaţi şi vor fi făcuţi eunuci în palatul împăratului Babilonului.“

‘And some of your own sons who are born to you will be taken away. They will work in the house of the king of Babylon.’”

8 E zechia i-a zis lui Isaia: – Cuvântul Domnului pe care l-ai rostit este bun. „Căci, se gândea el, măcar în timpul vieţii mele va fi pace şi siguranţă.“

Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The Word of the Lord which you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “There will be peace and truth in my days.”
