1 C ând Roboam a ajuns la Ierusalim, a adunat Casa lui Iuda şi a lui Beniamin – o sută optzeci de mii de bărbaţi aleşi şi gata de luptă – ca să lupte împotriva lui Israel şi să aducă din nou regatul sub stăpânirea lui Roboam.

When Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he gathered together the family of Judah and Benjamin. There were 180, 000 chosen men of war gathered to fight against Israel to make Rehoboam their king again.

2 D ar Cuvântul Domnului a venit la Şemaia, omul lui Dumnezeu, zicându-i astfel:

But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

3 „ Spune-i lui Roboam, fiul lui Solomon, regele lui Iuda, precum şi tuturor israeliţilor din Iuda şi din Beniamin că

“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah. And speak to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin. Tell them,

4 a şa vorbeşte Domnul: «Nu vă ridicaţi la luptă împotriva fraţilor voştri! Întoarceţi-vă fiecare acasă, căci de la Mine a venit lucrul acesta!»“ Ei au ascultat cuvintele Domnului, s-au întors acasă şi nu s-au mai dus împotriva lui Ieroboam. Domnia lui Roboam peste Iuda

‘This is what the Lord says, “You must not go up to fight against your brothers. Every man return to his house. For I have made this happen.”’” So they listened to the word of the Lord and returned. They did not go against Jeroboam. Rehoboam Makes the Cities Strong

5 R oboam a locuit la Ierusalim şi a zidit cetăţi de apărare în Iuda:

Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem and built strong cities in Judah.

6 B etleem, Etam, Tekoa,

He built Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa,

7 B et-Ţur, Soco, Adulam,

Beth-zur, Soco, Adullam,

8 G at, Mareşa, Zif,

Gath, Mareshah, Ziph,

9 A dorayim, Lachiş, Azeka,

Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,

10 Ţ ora, Aialon şi Hebron. Aceste cetăţi se aflau pe teritoriul lui Iuda şi al lui Beniamin şi erau fortificate.

Zorah, Aijalon, and Hebron. These are strong cities with walls, in Judah and in Benjamin.

11 E l a întărit aceste fortăreţe, a numit peste ele conducători şi a pus în ele magazii cu alimente, ulei de măsline şi vin.

He made the strong places stronger. He put leaders in them, and stores of food, oil, and wine.

12 Î n fiecare din aceste cetăţi a pus scuturi şi suliţe şi le-a întărit foarte mult. Iuda şi Beniamin erau de partea lui.

And he put battle-coverings and spears in every city and made them very strong. So he kept Judah and Benjamin. Religious Leaders and Levites Come to Judah

13 P reoţii şi leviţii, care se aşezaseră în tot Israelul, s-au înfăţişat înaintea lui, venind din toate regiunile.

The religious leaders and the Levites who were in all Israel joined with Rehoboam from all places where they lived.

14 L eviţii îşi părăsiseră păşunile şi proprietăţile şi veniseră în Iuda, la Ierusalim, căci Ieroboam şi fiii lui îi împiedicaseră să-şi mai împlinească slujba de preoţi ai Domnului.

The Levites left their fields and land and came to Judah and Jerusalem. For Jeroboam and his sons had stopped them from working as religious leaders for the Lord.

15 I eroboam îşi pusese propriii lui preoţi pentru înălţimile, pentru ţapii şi pentru viţeii pe care-i făcuse.

He chose religious leaders of his own for the high places, for the goat-gods and for the calves which he had made.

16 T oţi aceia din seminţiile lui Israel care aveau pe inimă să-L caute pe Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, i-au urmat pe leviţi la Ierusalim, ca să aducă jertfe Domnului, Dumnezeul strămoşilor lor.

Those from all the families of Israel who set their hearts on following the Lord God of Israel came after them to Jerusalem. They came to give gifts in worship to the Lord God of their fathers.

17 A stfel, ei au întărit regatul lui Iuda şi, vreme de trei ani, l-au susţinut pe Roboam, fiul lui Solomon, pentru că vreme de trei ani au umblat în calea lui David şi a lui Solomon.

They made the nation of Judah strong, and gave strength to Rehoboam the son of Solomon for three years. For they walked in the way of David and Solomon for three years. Rehoboam’s Family

18 R oboam a luat-o de soţie pe Mahalat, fiica lui Ierimot, fiul lui David, şi a lui Abihail, fiica lui Eliab, fiul lui Işai.

Then Rehoboam married Mahalath. She was the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse.

19 E a i-a născut următorii fii: Ieuş, Şemaria şi Zaham.

She gave birth to Rehoboam’s sons: Jeush, Shemariah, and Zaham.

20 A poi el s-a căsătorit cu Maaca, nepoata lui Absalom, care i-a născut pe Abia, pe Atai, pe Ziza şi pe Şelomit.

After her he married Maacah the daughter of Absalom. She gave birth to his sons: Abijah, Attai, Ziza, and Shelomith.

21 R oboam a iubit-o pe Maaca, nepoata lui Absalom, mai mult decât pe toate soţiile şi ţiitoarele sale (el a avut optsprezece soţii şi şaizeci de ţiitoare şi i s-au născut douăzeci şi opt de fii şi şaizeci de fiice).

Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom more than all his other wives and women who acted as his wives. For he had taken eighteen wives and sixty women who acted as his wives. He was the father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.

22 R oboam l-a numit căpetenie pe Abia, fiul Maacăi, ca astfel să fie conducătorul fraţilor săi, căci dorea să-l facă rege.

Rehoboam chose Maacah’s son Abijah to be the head leader among his brothers. For he wanted to make him king.

23 E l a avut pricepere şi a împrăştiat pe unii din fiii lui prin toate regiunile lui Iuda şi Beniamin, prin toate cetăţile fortificate ale acestora, unde le-a dat hrană din belşug şi le-a căutat o mulţime de soţii.

And he acted with wisdom. He spread some of his sons to every strong city in all the lands of Judah and Benjamin. He gave them much food, and found many wives for them.
