1 C uando vino Roboam a Jerusalén, reunió de la casa de Judá y de Benjamín a ciento ochenta mil hombres escogidos de guerra, para pelear contra Israel y hacer volver el reino a Roboam.

When Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he gathered together the family of Judah and Benjamin. There were 180, 000 chosen men of war gathered to fight against Israel to make Rehoboam their king again.

2 M as vino palabra de Jehová a Semaías, varón de Dios, diciendo:

But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

3 H abla a Roboam, hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a todos los israelitas en Judá y Benjamín, diciéndoles:

“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah. And speak to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin. Tell them,

4 A sí ha dicho Jehová: No subáis, ni peleéis contra vuestros hermanos; vuélvase cada uno a su casa, porque yo he hecho esto. Y ellos oyeron la palabra de Jehová y se volvieron, y no fueron contra Jeroboam. Prosperidad de Roboam

‘This is what the Lord says, “You must not go up to fight against your brothers. Every man return to his house. For I have made this happen.”’” So they listened to the word of the Lord and returned. They did not go against Jeroboam. Rehoboam Makes the Cities Strong

5 Y habitó Roboam en Jerusalén, y edificó ciudades para fortificar a Judá.

Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem and built strong cities in Judah.

6 E dificó Belén, Etam, Técoa,

He built Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa,

7 B et-sur, Socó, Adulam,

Beth-zur, Soco, Adullam,

8 G at, Maresá, Zif,

Gath, Mareshah, Ziph,

9 A doráyim, Laquís, Azecá,

Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,

10 Z orá, Ajalón y Hebrón, que eran ciudades fortificadas de Judá y Benjamín.

Zorah, Aijalon, and Hebron. These are strong cities with walls, in Judah and in Benjamin.

11 R eforzó también las fortalezas, y puso en ellas capitanes, y provisiones, vino y aceite;

He made the strong places stronger. He put leaders in them, and stores of food, oil, and wine.

12 y proveyó a todas las ciudades de escudos y lanzas. Las fortificó, pues, en gran manera; y Judá y Benjamín estaban de su parte.

And he put battle-coverings and spears in every city and made them very strong. So he kept Judah and Benjamin. Religious Leaders and Levites Come to Judah

13 Y los sacerdotes y levitas que estaban en todo Israel, se juntaron a él desde todos los lugares donde vivían.

The religious leaders and the Levites who were in all Israel joined with Rehoboam from all places where they lived.

14 P orque los levitas dejaban sus ejidos y sus posesiones, y venían a Judá y a Jerusalén; pues Jeroboam y sus hijos les habían prohibido ejercer el ministerio de Jehová.

The Levites left their fields and land and came to Judah and Jerusalem. For Jeroboam and his sons had stopped them from working as religious leaders for the Lord.

15 Y Jeroboam instituyó sus propios sacerdotes para los lugares altos, y para los demonios, y para los becerros que había hecho.

He chose religious leaders of his own for the high places, for the goat-gods and for the calves which he had made.

16 T ras ellos acudieron también de todas las tribus de Israel los que habían puesto su corazón en buscar a Jehová Dios de Israel; y vinieron a Jerusalén para ofrecer sacrificios a Jehová, el Dios de sus padres.

Those from all the families of Israel who set their hearts on following the Lord God of Israel came after them to Jerusalem. They came to give gifts in worship to the Lord God of their fathers.

17 A sí fortalecieron el reino de Judá, y confirmaron a Roboam hijo de Salomón, por tres años; porque tres años anduvieron en el camino de David y de Salomón.

They made the nation of Judah strong, and gave strength to Rehoboam the son of Solomon for three years. For they walked in the way of David and Solomon for three years. Rehoboam’s Family

18 Y tomó Roboam por mujer a Mahalat hija de Jerimot, hijo de David y de Abiháyil hija de Eliab, hijo de Isay,

Then Rehoboam married Mahalath. She was the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse.

19 l a cual le dio a luz estos hijos: Jeús, Semarías y Zaham.

She gave birth to Rehoboam’s sons: Jeush, Shemariah, and Zaham.

20 D espués de ella tomó a Maacá hija de Absalón, la cual le dio a luz a Abías, Atay, Zizá y Selomit.

After her he married Maacah the daughter of Absalom. She gave birth to his sons: Abijah, Attai, Ziza, and Shelomith.

21 P ero Roboam amó a Maacá hija de Absalón sobre todas sus mujeres y concubinas; porque tomó dieciocho mujeres y sesenta concubinas, y engendró veintiocho hijos y sesenta hijas.

Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom more than all his other wives and women who acted as his wives. For he had taken eighteen wives and sixty women who acted as his wives. He was the father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.

22 Y puso Roboam a Abías hijo de Maacá por jefe y príncipe de sus hermanos, porque quería hacerle rey.

Rehoboam chose Maacah’s son Abijah to be the head leader among his brothers. For he wanted to make him king.

23 O bró sagazmente, y esparció a todos sus hijos por todas las tierras de Judá y de Benjamín, y por todas las ciudades fortificadas, les dio provisiones en abundancia, y les procuró muchas mujeres.

And he acted with wisdom. He spread some of his sons to every strong city in all the lands of Judah and Benjamin. He gave them much food, and found many wives for them.
