1 J ehová habló a Moisés, diciendo:

The Lord said to Moses,

2 H az la venganza de los hijos de Israel contra los madianitas; después serás recogido a tu pueblo.

“Punish the Midianites for the people of Israel. After that you will be buried with your people.”

3 E ntonces Moisés habló al pueblo, diciendo: Armaos algunos de vosotros para la guerra, y vayan contra Madián y hagan la venganza de Jehová en Madián.

Then Moses said to the people, “Take men from among you and make them ready for war against Midian. They will punish Midian for the Lord.

4 M il de cada tribu de todas las tribus de los hijos de Israel, enviaréis a la guerra.

Send to the war 1, 000 men from each of all the family groups of Israel.”

5 A sí fueron dados de los millares de Israel, mil por cada tribu, doce mil en pie de guerra.

So 1, 000 men came from each of the family groups of the thousands of Israel. There were 12, 000 ready for war.

6 Y Moisés los envió a la guerra; mil de cada tribu envió; y Fineés hijo del sacerdote Eleazar fue a la guerra con los vasos del santuario, y con las trompetas en su mano para tocar.

Moses sent them, 1, 000 from each family group, to the war. Phinehas the son of Eleazar the religious leader went to the war with them. In his hand were the holy objects and the horns for blowing the sound of coming danger.

7 Y pelearon contra Madián, como Jehová lo mandó a Moisés, y mataron a todo varón.

So the men made war against Midian, just as the Lord had told Moses, and they killed every male.

8 M ataron también, entre los muertos de ellos, a los reyes de Madián, Eví, Requem, Zur, Hur y Reba, cinco reyes de Madián; también a Balaam hijo de Beor mataron a espada.

They killed the five kings of Midian with the sword also, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba. And they also killed Balaam the son of Beor with the sword.

9 Y los hijos de Israel llevaron cautivas a las mujeres de los madianitas, a sus niños, y todas sus bestias y todos sus ganados; y arrebataron todos sus bienes,

The people of Israel took the women of Midian and their little ones, and all their cattle, all their flocks, and all the good things that belonged to them.

10 e incendiaron todas sus ciudades, aldeas y habitaciones.

Then they burned all their cities where they lived and all their tents.

11 Y tomaron todo el despojo, y todo el botín, así de hombres como de bestias.

They took all that was left of both man and animal.

12 Y trajeron a Moisés y al sacerdote Eleazar, y a la congregación de los hijos de Israel, los cautivos y el botín y los despojos al campamento, en los llanos de Moab, que están junto al Jordán frente a Jericó. Matanza de las mujeres y purificación del botín

And they brought the people they had taken and the animals and whatever belonged to them to Moses, and to Eleazar the religious leader, and to the people of Israel. Their tents were on the plains of Moab by the Jordan near Jericho.

13 Y salieron Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar, y todos los príncipes de la congregación, a recibirlos fuera del campamento.

Moses and Eleazar the religious leader and all the leaders of the people went out from the tents to meet them.

14 Y se enojó Moisés contra los capitanes del ejército, contra los jefes de millares y de centenas que volvían de la guerra,

Moses was angry with the leaders of the army, the heads of thousands and the heads of hundreds, who had fought in the war.

15 y les dijo Moisés: ¿Por qué habéis dejado con vida a todas las mujeres?

He said to them, “Have you allowed all the women to live?

16 H e aquí, por consejo de Balaam ellas fueron causa de que los hijos de Israel prevaricasen contra Jehová en lo tocante a Baal-peor, por lo que hubo mortandad en la congregación de Jehová.

See, these women listened to Balaam and caused the people of Israel to sin against the Lord in what happened at Peor. So the very bad disease came to the people of the Lord.

17 M atad, pues, ahora a todos los varones de entre los niños; matad también a toda mujer que haya conocido varón carnalmente.

Now kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has had a man.

18 P ero a todas las niñas entre las mujeres, que no hayan conocido varón, las dejaréis con vida.

But keep alive for yourselves all the girls who have not had a man.

19 Y vosotros, cualquiera que haya dado muerte a persona, y cualquiera que haya tocado muerto, permaneced fuera del campamento siete días, y os purificaréis al tercer día y al séptimo, vosotros y vuestros cautivos.

Stay away from the tents for seven days. If you have killed any person or have touched any dead body, you must make yourself and those you have taken clean, on the third day and on the seventh day.

20 A simismo purificaréis todo vestido, y toda prenda de pieles, y toda obra de pelo de cabra, y todo utensilio de madera.

You must clean every piece of clothing, everything made of leather, everything made of goats’ hair, and everything made of wood.”

21 Y el sacerdote Eleazar dijo a los hombres de guerra que venían de la guerra: Esta es la ordenanza de la ley que Jehová ha mandado a Moisés:

Then Eleazar the religious leader said to the men of war who had gone to battle, “This is the Law which the Lord has told Moses.

22 C iertamente el oro y la plata, el bronce, hierro, estaño y plomo,

Take the gold, silver, brass, iron, tin and lead,

23 t odo lo que resiste el fuego, por fuego lo haréis pasar, y será limpio, bien que en las aguas de purificación habrá de purificarse; y haréis pasar por agua todo lo que no resiste el fuego.

everything that can last through fire. Pass it through the fire, and it will be clean. But it must be made pure with the water for cleaning. Whatever cannot last through fire you must pass through the water.

24 A demás lavaréis vuestros vestidos el séptimo día, y así seréis limpios; y después entraréis en el campamento. Reparto del botín

You must wash your clothes on the seventh day, and you will be clean. Then you may come among the tents.”

25 Y Jehová habló a Moisés, diciendo:

The Lord said to Moses,

26 T oma la cuenta del botín que se ha hecho, así de las personas como de las bestias, tú y el sacerdote Eleazar, y los jefes de los padres de la congregación;

“You and Eleazar the religious leader and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the people should number all that was taken from the battle, both of man and animal.

27 y partirás por mitades el botín entre los que pelearon, los que salieron a la guerra, y toda la congregación.

Divide what was taken between the men of war who went to battle and all the people.

28 Y apartarás para Jehová el tributo de los hombres de guerra que salieron a la guerra; de quinientos, uno, así de las personas como de los bueyes, de los asnos y de las ovejas.

Then take a tax for the Lord from the men of war who went out to battle. Take one out of 500 of the persons and the cattle and the donkeys and the sheep.

29 D e la mitad de ellos lo tomarás; y darás al sacerdote Eleazar la ofrenda de Jehová.

Take this from their half and give it to Eleazar the religious leader, as a gift to the Lord.

30 Y de la mitad perteneciente a los hijos de Israel tomarás uno de cada cincuenta de las personas, de los bueyes, de los asnos, de las ovejas y de todo animal, y los darás a los levitas, que tienen la guarda del tabernáculo de Jehová.

From the half belonging to the people of Israel, take one out of every fifty of the persons and cattle and donkeys and sheep and all the animals. Give them to the Levites who take care of the meeting tent of the Lord.”

31 E hicieron Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar como Jehová mandó a Moisés.

Moses and Eleazar the religious leader did just as the Lord had told Moses.

32 Y fue el botín, el resto del botín que tomaron los hombres de guerra, seiscientas setenta y cinco mil ovejas,

What was left from that which the men of war had taken was 675, 000 sheep,

33 s etenta y dos mil bueyes,

72, 000 cattle,

34 y sesenta y un mil asnos.

61, 000 donkeys,

35 E n cuanto a personas, de mujeres que no habían conocido varón, eran por todas treinta y dos mil.

and 32, 000 persons in all, of women who had never had a man.

36 Y la mitad, la parte de los que habían salido a la guerra, fue el número de trescientas treinta y siete mil quinientas ovejas;

The half taken by those who went out to war was 337, 500 sheep.

37 y el tributo de las ovejas para Jehová fue seiscientas setenta y cinco.

The Lord’s tax was 675 sheep.

38 D e los bueyes, treinta y seis mil; y de ellos el tributo para Jehová, setenta y dos.

There were 36, 000 cattle, from which the Lord’s tax was seventy-two.

39 D e los asnos, treinta mil quinientos; y de ellos el tributo para Jehová, sesenta y uno.

There were 30, 500 donkeys, from which the Lord’s tax was sixty-one.

40 Y de las personas, dieciséis mil; y de ellas el tributo para Jehová, treinta y dos personas.

And there were 16, 000 persons, from whom the Lord’s tax was thirty-two.

41 Y dio Moisés el tributo, para ofrenda elevada a Jehová, al sacerdote Eleazar, como Jehová lo mandó a Moisés.

Moses gave the tax, which was the Lord’s gift, to Eleazar the religious leader, just as the Lord had told Moses.

42 Y de la mitad para los hijos de Israel, que apartó Moisés de los hombres que habían ido a la guerra

Moses divided the people of Israel’s half from the men who had gone to war.

43 ( la mitad para la congregación fue: de las ovejas, trescientas treinta y siete mil quinientas;

The people’s half was 337, 500 sheep,

44 d e los bueyes, treinta y seis mil;

36, 000 cattle,

45 d e los asnos, treinta mil quinientos;

30, 500 donkeys,

46 y de las personas, dieciséis mil);

and 16, 000 persons.

47 d e la mitad, pues, para los hijos de Israel, tomó Moisés uno de cada cincuenta, así de las personas como de los animales, y los dio a los levitas, que tenían la guarda del tabernáculo de Jehová, como Jehová lo había mandado a Moisés.

Moses took one out of every fifty of both man and animal from the people of Israel’s half. He gave them to the Levites, who took care of the meeting tent of the Lord, just as the Lord had told Moses.

48 V inieron a Moisés los jefes de los millares de aquel ejército, los jefes de millares y de centenas,

Then the leaders of the thousands of the army, the heads of thousands and the heads of hundreds, came to Moses.

49 y dijeron a Moisés: Tus siervos han tomado razón de los hombres de guerra que están en nuestro poder, y ninguno ha faltado de nosotros.

They said to him, “Your servants have numbered the men of war whom we lead. Not one man is missing from us.

50 P or lo cual hemos ofrecido a Jehová ofrenda, cada uno de lo que ha hallado, alhajas de oro, brazaletes, manillas, anillos, zarcillos y cadenas, para hacer expiación por nuestras almas delante de Jehová.

We have brought as a gift to the Lord what each man found, objects of gold, things to be worn on the arms and fingers and ears and necks. They are to pay for our sins before the Lord.”

51 Y Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar recibieron el oro de ellos, alhajas, todas elaboradas.

Moses and Eleazar the religious leader took the gold from them, all the objects made of beaten gold.

52 Y todo el oro de la ofrenda que ofrecieron a Jehová los jefes de millares y de centenas fue dieciséis mil setecientos cincuenta siclos.

All the gold of the gift they gave to the Lord from the heads of thousands and the heads of hundreds was worth 16, 750 gold pieces.

53 L os hombres del ejército habían tomado botín cada uno para sí.

For the men of war had taken things from the battle, every man for himself.

54 R ecibieron, pues, Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar el oro de los jefes de millares y de centenas, y lo trajeron al tabernáculo de reunión, por memoria de los hijos de Israel delante de Jehová.

So Moses and Eleazar the religious leader took the gold from the heads of thousands and of hundreds. They brought it to the meeting tent so that the people of Israel would be remembered before the Lord.
