1 P ablo, apóstol de Jesucristo por la voluntad de Dios, según la promesa de la vida que es en Cristo Jesús,

This letter is from Paul, a missionary of Jesus Christ. God has sent me to tell that He has promised life that lasts forever through Christ Jesus.

3 D oy gracias a Dios, al cual sirvo desde mis mayores con limpia conciencia, de que sin cesar me acuerdo de ti en mis oraciones noche y día;

I thank God for you. I pray for you night and day. I am working for God the way my early fathers worked. My heart says I am free from sin.

4 d eseando verte, al acordarme de tus lágrimas, para llenarme de gozo;

When I remember your tears, it makes me want to see you. That would fill me with joy.

5 t rayendo a la memoria la fe no fingida que hay en ti, la cual habitó primero en tu abuela Loida, y en tu madre Eunice, y estoy seguro que en ti también.

I remember your true faith. It is the same faith your grandmother Lois had and your mother Eunice had. I am sure you have that same faith also.

6 P or lo cual te recuerdo que avives el fuego del don de Dios que está en ti por la imposición de mis manos.

For this reason, I ask you to keep using the gift God gave you. It came to you when I laid my hands on you and prayed that God would use you.

7 P orque no nos ha dado Dios espíritu de cobardía, sino de poder, de amor y de cordura.

For God did not give us a spirit of fear. He gave us a spirit of power and of love and of a good mind.

8 P or tanto, no te avergüences de dar testimonio de nuestro Señor, ni de mí, preso suyo, sino participa de las aflicciones por el evangelio según el poder de Dios,

Do not be ashamed to tell others about what our Lord said, or of me here in prison. I am here because of Jesus Christ. Be ready to suffer for preaching the Good News and God will give you the strength you need.

9 q uien nos salvó y llamó con llamamiento santo, no conforme a nuestras obras, sino según el propósito suyo y la gracia que nos fue dada en Cristo Jesús antes de los tiempos eternos,

He is the One Who saved us from the punishment of sin. He is the One Who chose us to do His work. It is not because of anything we have done. But it was His plan from the beginning that He would give us His loving-favor through Christ Jesus.

10 p ero que ahora ha sido manifestada mediante la aparición de nuestro Salvador Jesucristo, el cual abolió la muerte y sacó a luz la vida y la inmortalidad por medio del evangelio,

We know about it now because of the coming of Jesus Christ, the One Who saves. He put a stop to the power of death and brought life that never dies which is seen through the Good News.

11 p ara el cual yo fui puesto como predicador, apóstol y maestro de los gentiles.

I have been chosen to be a missionary and a preacher and a teacher of this Good News.

12 P or lo cual asimismo padezco esto; pero no me avergüenzo, porque yo sé a quién he creído, y estoy seguro de que es poderoso para guardar mi depósito para aquel día.

For this reason, I am suffering. But I am not ashamed. I know the One in Whom I have put my trust. I am sure He is able to keep safe that which I have trusted to Him until the day He comes again.

13 R etén el modelo de las sanas palabras que de mí oíste, en la fe y amor que es en Cristo Jesús.

Keep all the things I taught you. They were given to you in the faith and love of Jesus Christ.

14 G uarda el buen depósito mediante el Espíritu Santo que habita en nosotros.

Keep safe that which He has trusted you with by the Holy Spirit Who lives in us. Onesiphorus Was Faithful

15 Y a sabes esto, que me abandonaron todos los que están en Asia, de los cuales son Figelo y Hermógenes.

I am sure you have heard that all the Christians in the countries of Asia have turned away from me. Phygelus and Hermogenes turned away also.

16 T enga el Señor misericordia de la casa de Onesíforo, porque muchas veces me confortó, y no se avergonzó de mis cadenas,

Onesiphorus was not ashamed of me in prison. He came often to comfort me. May the Lord show loving-kindness to his family.

17 s ino que cuando estuvo en Roma, me buscó solícitamente y me halló.

When he came to Rome, he looked everywhere until he found me.

18 C oncédale el Señor que halle misericordia cerca del Señor en aquel día. Y tú sabes muy bien los servicios que prestó en Éfeso.

You know what a help he was to me in Ephesus. When the Lord comes again, may He show loving-kindness to Onesiphorus.
