1 R espondió Zofar naamatita, y dijo:

Then Zophar the Naamathite answered,

2 ¿ Tanta palabrería no ha de tener respuesta? ¿Y tendrá razón el charlatán?

“Should many words go without an answer? Should a man full of talk be said to be without blame?

3 ¿ Harán tus falacias callar a los hombres? ¿Harás escarnio y no habrá quien te avergüence?

Should your words of pride make men quiet? Should you make fun of truth and no one speak sharp words to you?

4 T ú dices: Mi doctrina es pura, Y yo soy limpio delante de tus ojos.

For you say, ‘What I believe is pure. I am without fault in Your eyes.’

5 M as ¡oh, quién diera que Dios hablara, Y abriera sus labios para responderte,

If only God would speak, and open His lips against you.

6 Y te declarara los secretos de la sabiduría, Que son de doble valor que tus argucias! Conocerías entonces que Dios te ha castigado menos de lo que tu iniquidad merece.

He would show you the secrets of wisdom because there are two sides. Then you would know that God is punishing you less than you should get.

7 ¿ Descubrirás tú las profundidades de Dios? ¿Alcanzarás el límite de la perfección del Todopoderoso?

“Can you find out the deep things of God? Can you find out how far the All-powerful can go?

8 E s más alta que los cielos; ¿qué harás? Es más profunda que el Seol; ¿cómo la conocerás?

They are higher than the heavens. What can you do? They are deeper than the place of the dead. What can you know?

9 S u dimensión es más extensa que la tierra, Y más ancha que el mar.

They are longer than the earth and wider than the sea.

10 S i él pasa, y aprisiona, y llama a juicio, ¿Quién podrá contrarrestarle?

If He passes by, puts a man in prison, or calls him to trial, who can stop Him?

11 P orque él conoce a los hombres vanos; Ve asimismo la iniquidad, ¿y no hará caso?

For He knows men who are no good. When He sees wrong-doing, will He not look into it?

12 E l hombre vano se hará entendido, Cuando un asno montés se convierta en hombre.

A fool cannot become wise anymore than a wild donkey can give birth to a man.

13 S i tú diriges tu corazón a Dios, Y extiendes a él tus manos;

“If you set your heart right, and put out your hands to Him,

14 S i alguna iniquidad hay en tu mano, y la echas de ti, Y no consientes que more en tu casa la injusticia,

and if you put away the sin that is in your hand, do not let wrong-doing be in your tents.

15 E ntonces levantarás tu rostro limpio de mancha, Y serás fuerte, y nada temerás;

Then you will be able to lift up your face without sin. You would be strong and not afraid.

16 Y olvidarás tu miseria, O te acordarás de ella como de aguas que pasaron.

For you would forget your trouble, remembering it as waters that have passed by.

17 L a vida te será más luminosa que el mediodía; Aunque oscurezca, será como el amanecer.

Your life would be brighter than noon. Darkness would be like the morning.

18 T endrás confianza, porque hay esperanza; Mirarás alrededor de tu tienda, y dormirás seguro.

Then you would trust, because there is hope. You would look around and rest and be safe.

19 T e acostarás, y no habrá quien te espante; Y muchos buscarán tu favor.

You would lie down and no one would make you afraid. Many would ask for your favor.

20 P ero los ojos de los malos se consumirán, Y no tendrán refugio; Y su esperanza será dar su último suspiro.

But the eyes of the sinful will waste away. There will be no way for them to get away. And their hope is to breathe their last.”
