1 L legaron los días en que David había de morir, y ordenó a Salomón su hijo, diciendo:

When David’s time to die was near, he told his son Solomon,

2 Y o me voy por el camino de todos los que están en la tierra; esfuérzate, y sé hombre.

“I am going the way of all the earth. So be strong. Show yourself to be a man.

3 G uarda los preceptos de Jehová tu Dios, andando en sus caminos, y observando sus estatutos y mandamientos, sus decretos y sus testimonios, de la manera que está escrito en la ley de Moisés, para que prosperes en todo lo que hagas y en todo aquello que emprendas;

Do what the Lord your God tells you. Walk in His ways. Keep all His Laws and His Word, by what is written in the Law of Moses. Then you will do well in all that you do and in every place you go.

4 p ara que confirme Jehová la palabra que me habló, diciendo: Si tus hijos guardan mi camino, andando delante de mí con verdad, de todo corazón y con toda su alma, jamás, dice, faltará a ti varón en el trono de Israel.

Then the Lord will keep His promise to me. He has said to me, ‘Your sons must be careful of their way, to walk before Me in truth with all their heart and soul. If they do, you will never be without a man on the throne of Israel.’

5 Y a sabes tú lo que me ha hecho Joab hijo de Sarvia, lo que hizo a dos generales del ejército de Israel, a Abner hijo de Ner y a Amasá hijo de Jéter, a los cuales él mató, derramando en tiempo de paz la sangre de guerra, y poniendo sangre inocente en el cinturón de sus lomos y en las sandalias de sus pies.

Now you know what Zeruiah’s son Joab did to me. You know what he did to the two captains of the armies of Israel. He killed Abner the son of Ner, and Amasa the son of Jether in the time of peace as if it were in the time of war. He put the blood of war on his belt and on the shoes of his feet.

6 T ú, pues, harás conforme a tu sabiduría; no dejarás descender sus canas al Seol en paz.

So act with wisdom. Do not let his gray hair go down to the grave in peace.

7 M as a los hijos de Barzilay galaadita harás misericordia, que sean de los convidados a tu mesa; porque ellos vinieron de esta manera a mí, cuando iba huyendo de Absalón tu hermano.

But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite. Let them be among those who eat at your table. For they helped me when I ran from your brother Absalom.

8 T ambién tienes contigo a Simeí hijo de Gerá, hijo de Benjamín, de Bahurim, el cual me maldijo con una maldición fuerte el día que yo iba a Mahanáyim. Mas él mismo descendió a recibirme al Jordán, y yo le juré por Jehová, diciendo: Yo no te mataré a espada.

See, there is with you Shimei the son of Gera the Benjamite, of Bahurim. It was he who spoke bad words against me on the day I went to Mahanaim. But when he came down to me at the Jordan, I promised him by the Lord, saying, ‘I will not put you to death with the sword.’

9 P ero ahora no lo absolverás; pues hombre sabio eres, y sabes cómo debes hacer con él; y harás descender sus canas con sangre al Seol. Muerte de David

So do not let him go without being punished. For you are a wise man. You will know what you should do to him. Bring his gray hair down to the grave with blood.” The Death of David

10 Y durmió David con sus padres, y fue sepultado en su ciudad.

Then David died and was buried in the city of David.

11 L os días que reinó David sobre Israel fueron cuarenta años; siete años reinó en Hebrón, y treinta y tres años reinó en Jerusalén.

He had ruled over Israel forty years. Seven years he ruled in Hebron. And thirty-three years he ruled in Jerusalem.

12 Y se sentó Salomón en el trono de David su padre, y su reino fue firme en gran manera. Salomón afirma su reino

Solomon sat on the throne of his father David and things went well for the nation. Solomon Had Adonijah Killed

13 E ntonces Adonías hijo de Haguit vino a Betsabé madre de Salomón; y ella le dijo: ¿Es tu venida de paz? Él respondió: Sí, de paz.

Now Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Solomon’s mother Bathsheba. She said, “Do you come in peace?” And he said, “Yes, in peace.”

14 E n seguida dijo: Una palabra tengo que decirte. Y ella dijo: Di.

Then he said, “I have something to say to you.” And she said, “Speak.”

15 É l dijo: Tú sabes que el reino era mío, y que todo Israel había puesto en mí su rostro para que yo reinara; mas el reino fue traspasado, y vino a ser de mi hermano, porque por voluntad de Jehová era suyo.

So he said, “You know that the nation was mine. All Israel thought I would be king. But the nation has become my brother’s, for it was his from the Lord.

16 A hora yo te hago una petición; no me la niegues. Y ella le dijo: Habla.

Now I have one thing to ask of you. Do not say no to me.” And she said to him, “Speak.”

17 É l entonces dijo: Yo te ruego que hables al rey Salomón (porque él no te lo negará), para que me dé a Abisag sunamita por mujer.

He said, “I beg you, speak to Solomon the king. For he will not say no to you. Ask him to give me Abishag the Shunammite as a wife.”

18 Y Betsabé dijo: Bien; yo hablaré por ti al rey.

Bathsheba said, “Very well. I will speak to the king for you.”

19 V ino Betsabé al rey Salomón para hablarle por Adonías. Y el rey se levantó a recibirla, y se inclinó ante ella, y volvió a sentarse en su trono, e hizo traer una silla para su madre, la cual se sentó a su diestra.

So Bathsheba went to speak to King Solomon for Adonijah. The king stood up to meet her, bowed in front of her, then sat on his throne. He had a seat brought in for the king’s mother, and she sat on his right.

20 Y ella dijo: Una pequeña petición pretendo de ti; no me la niegues. Y el rey le dijo: Pide, madre mía, que yo no te la negaré.

She said, “I am asking you for one small thing. Do not say no to me.” And the king said to her, “Ask, my mother. I will not say no to you.”

21 Y ella dijo: Que den a Abisag sunamita por mujer a tu hermano Adonías.

So she said, “Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to your brother Adonijah as his wife.”

22 E l rey Salomón respondió y dijo a su madre: ¿Por qué pides a Abisag sunamita para Adonías? Demanda también para él el reino; porque él es mi hermano mayor, y ya tiene también al sacerdote Abiatar, y a Joab hijo de Sarvia.

King Solomon answered his mother, “Why are you asking me to give Abishag the Shunammite to Adonijah? Ask me to give him the nation also! For he is my older brother. And Abiathar the religious leader and Joab the son of Zeruiah are on his side!”

23 Y el rey Salomón juró por Jehová, diciendo: Así me haga Dios y aun me añada, que contra su vida ha hablado Adonías estas palabras.

Then King Solomon swore by the Lord, saying, “May God do so to me and more, if Adonijah has not asked for this against his own life.

24 A hora, pues, vive Jehová, quien me ha confirmado y me ha puesto sobre el trono de David mi padre, y quien me ha hecho casa, como me había dicho, que Adonías morirá hoy.

The Lord has given me my place on the throne of my father David. He has made me a house as He promised. And as the Lord lives, for sure Adonijah will be put to death today.”

25 E ntonces el rey Salomón envió por mano de Benayá hijo de Joyadá, el cual arremetió contra él, y murió.

So King Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he went to Adonijah and killed him. Abiathar Sent Away and Joab Is Killed

26 Y el rey dijo al sacerdote Abiatar: Vete a Anatot, a tus heredades, pues eres digno de muerte; pero no te mataré hoy, por cuanto has llevado el arca de Jehová el Señor delante de David mi padre, y además has sido afligido en todas las cosas en que fue afligido mi padre.

Then the king said to Abiathar the religious leader, “Go to your own fields at Anathoth, for you should be put to death. But I will not have you killed at this time. Because you carried the special box of the Lord God in front of my father David. And you shared in all of my father’s suffering.”

27 A sí echó Salomón a Abiatar del sacerdocio de Jehová, para que se cumpliese la palabra de Jehová que había dicho sobre la casa de Elí en Silo.

So Solomon stopped Abiathar from being religious leader for the Lord any longer. This was done to keep the word of the Lord, which God had spoken about the family of Eli in Shiloh.

28 Y vino la noticia a Joab; porque también Joab se había adherido a Adonías, si bien no se había adherido a Absalón. Y huyó Joab al tabernáculo de Jehová, y se asió de los cuernos del altar.

Now the news came to Joab. For Joab had followed Adonijah, but he had not followed Absalom. And Joab ran to the tent of the Lord and took hold of the horns of the altar.

29 Y se le hizo saber a Salomón que Joab había huido al tabernáculo de Jehová, y que estaba junto al altar. Entonces envió Salomón a Benayá hijo de Joyadá, diciendo: Ve, y arremete contra él.

King Solomon was told that Joab had run to the tent of the Lord, and was beside the altar. Then Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, “Go and kill him.”

30 Y entró Benayá al tabernáculo de Jehová, y le dijo: El rey ha dicho que salgas. Y él dijo: No, sino que aquí moriré. Y Benayá volvió con esta respuesta al rey, diciendo: Así dijo Joab, y así me respondió.

Benaiah came to the tent of the Lord. He said to Joab, “The king says to come out.” But Joab said, “No! I will die here.” So Benaiah returned to the king and said, “This is what Joab said. This is how he answered me.”

31 Y el rey le dijo: Haz como él ha dicho; mátale y entiérrale, y quita de mí y de la casa de mi padre la sangre que Joab ha derramado injustamente.

The king said to him, “Do as he has said. Kill him and bury him. In this way you will take away from me and my father’s house the blood of those killed by Joab without a reason.

32 Y Jehová hará volver su sangre sobre su cabeza; porque él ha dado muerte a dos varones más justos y mejores que él, a los cuales mató a espada sin que mi padre David supiese nada: a Abner hijo de Ner, general del ejército de Israel, y a Amasá hijo de Jéter, general del ejército de Judá.

The Lord will return Joab’s acts of killing upon his own head. Because Joab killed two men who were right and good and better than he. He killed them with the sword while my father David did not know it. He killed Abner the son of Ner, captain of the army of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the army of Judah.

33 L a sangre, pues, de ellos recaerá sobre la cabeza de Joab, y sobre la cabeza de su descendencia para siempre; mas sobre David y sobre su descendencia, y sobre su casa y sobre su trono, habrá perpetuamente paz de parte de Jehová.

So their blood will be on the head of Joab and on the head of his children forever. But may there be peace from the Lord forever to David and his children, his house and his throne.”

34 E ntonces Benayá hijo de Joyadá subió y arremetió contra Joab, y lo mató; y fue sepultado en su casa en el desierto.

Then Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and killed Joab. He was buried at his own house in the desert.

35 Y el rey puso en su lugar a Benayá hijo de Joyadá sobre el ejército, y a Sadoc puso el rey por sacerdote en lugar de Abiatar.

The king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada over the army in Joab’s place. And the king put Zadok the religious leader in the place of Abiathar. The Death of Shimei

36 D espués envió el rey e hizo venir a Simeí, y le dijo: Edifícate una casa en Jerusalén y mora ahí, y no salgas de allí a una parte ni a otra;

Then the king sent for Shimei and said to him, “Build a house for yourself in Jerusalem and live there. Do not leave there.

37 p orque sábete de cierto que el día que salgas y pases el torrente de Cedrón, sin duda morirás, y tu sangre será sobre tu cabeza.

For on the day you go out and cross the river Kidron, you will know for sure that you will die. Your blood will be on your own head.”

38 Y Simeí dijo al rey: La palabra es buena; como el rey mi señor ha dicho, así lo hará tu siervo. Y habitó Simeí en Jerusalén muchos días.

Shimei said to the king, “What you say is good. Your servant will do as my lord the king has said.” So Shimei lived in Jerusalem many days.

39 P ero, pasados tres años, aconteció que dos siervos de Simeí huyeron a Aquís hijo de Maacá, rey de Gat. Y dieron aviso a Simeí, diciendo: He aquí que tus siervos están en Gat.

But at the end of three years, two of Shimei’s servants ran away to Achish the son of Maacah, king of Gath. Shimei was told, “See, your servants are in Gath.”

40 E ntonces Simeí se levantó y ensilló su asno y fue a Aquís en Gat, para buscar a sus siervos. Fue, pues, Simeí, y trajo sus siervos de Gat.

Then Shimei got up and made his donkey ready to travel. And he went to Achish in Gath to look for his servants. Shimei went and brought his servants from Gath.

41 L uego fue dicho a Salomón que Simeí había ido de Jerusalén hasta Gat, y que había vuelto.

Solomon was told that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath and had returned.

42 E ntonces el rey envió e hizo venir a Simeí, y le dijo: ¿No te hice jurar yo por Jehová, y te protesté diciendo: El día que salgas y vayas acá o allá, sabe de cierto que morirás? Y tú me dijiste: La palabra es buena, yo la obedezco.

So the king sent for Shimei and said to him, “Did I not make you promise by the Lord and tell you of danger, saying, ‘You will know for sure that on the day you leave and go anywhere, you will die’? And you said to me, ‘What you have said is good.’

43 ¿ Por qué, pues, no guardaste el juramento de Jehová, y el mandamiento que yo te impuse?

Then why have you not kept the promise of the Lord? Why have you not done what I told you?”

44 D ijo además el rey a Simeí: Tú sabes todo el mal, el cual tu corazón bien sabe, que cometiste contra mi padre David; Jehová, pues, ha hecho volver el mal sobre tu cabeza.

And the king said to Shimei, “You know in your heart all the bad things you did to my father David. So the Lord will return your sin upon your own head.

45 Y el rey Salomón será bendito, y el trono de David será firme perpetuamente delante de Jehová.

But good will come to King Solomon. The throne of David will keep its place before the Lord forever.”

46 E ntonces el rey mandó a Benayá hijo de Joyadá, el cual salió e hirió a Simeí, y éste murió. Y el reino fue confirmado en la mano de Salomón.

So the king told Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and he went out and killed Shimei. The nation was put under the rule of Solomon.
