1 E n el año segundo de Joás hijo de Joacaz rey de Israel, comenzó a reinar Amasías hijo de Joás rey de Judá.

In the second year of Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, Joash’s son Amaziah began to rule as king of Judah.

2 C uando comenzó a reinar era de veinticinco años, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalén; el nombre de su madre fue Joadán, de Jerusalén.

He was twenty-five years old when he became king. And he ruled twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.

3 Y él hizo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová, aunque no como David su padre; hizo conforme a todas las cosas que había hecho Joás su padre.

Amaziah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, but not like David his father. He did all that his father Joash had done.

4 C on todo eso, los lugares altos no fueron quitados, porque el pueblo aún sacrificaba y quemaba incienso en esos lugares altos.

But the high places were not taken away. The people still gave gifts and burned special perfume on the high places.

5 Y cuando hubo afirmado en sus manos el reino, mató a los siervos que habían dado muerte al rey su padre.

As soon as the nation was under Amaziah’s power, he killed the servants who had killed his father when he was king.

6 P ero no mató a los hijos de los que le dieron muerte, conforme a lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, donde Jehová mandó diciendo: No matarán a los padres por los hijos, ni a los hijos por los padres, sino que cada uno morirá por su propio pecado.

But he did not kill the sons of the killers. Because it is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, as the Lord said, “The fathers must not be put to death for the sons. And the sons must not be put to death for the fathers. Each must be put to death for his own sin.”

7 É ste mató asimismo a diez mil edomitas en el Valle de la Sal, y tomó la Peña en batalla, y la llamó Jocteel, hasta hoy.

Amaziah killed 10, 000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt, and took Sela by war. He gave it the name Joktheel, which is its name to this day.

8 E ntonces Amasías envió mensajeros a Joás hijo de Joacaz, hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, diciendo: Ven, para que nos veamos las caras.

Then Amaziah sent men with news to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us look at each other in the face.”

9 Y Joás rey de Israel envió a Amasías rey de Judá esta respuesta: El cardo que está en el Líbano envió a decir al cedro que está en el Líbano: Da tu hija por mujer a mi hijo. Y pasaron las fieras que están en el Líbano, y hollaron el cardo.

Jehoash king of Israel answered Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “The thorn bush in Lebanon sent word to the cedar tree in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son in marriage.’ But a wild animal passed by in Lebanon, and crushed the thorn bush under its feet.

10 C iertamente has derrotado a Edom, y tu corazón se ha envanecido; gloríate pues, mas quédate en tu casa. ¿Para qué te metes en un mal, para que caigas tú y Judá contigo?

Yes, you have won the battle against Edom. Your heart has become proud. Be happy with your greatness and stay at home. For why should you make trouble so that you fall, and Judah with you?”

11 P ero Amasías no escuchó; por lo cual subió Joás rey de Israel, y se vieron las caras él y Amasías rey de Judá, en Bet-semes, que es de Judá.

But Amaziah would not listen. So King Jehoash of Israel went up. He and Amaziah king of Judah fought each other at Beth-shemesh, which belongs to Judah.

12 Y Judá cayó delante de Israel, y huyeron, cada uno a su tienda.

Israel won the battle against Judah, and every man of Judah ran away to his tent.

13 A demás Joás rey de Israel tomó a Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joás hijo de Ocozías, en Bet-semes; y vino a Jerusalén, y rompió el muro de Jerusalén desde la puerta de Efraín hasta la puerta de la esquina, cuatrocientos codos.

King Jehoash of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh. Then he came to Jerusalem and tore down the city wall, from the Gate of Ephraim to the Corner Gate. He tore down the wall as far as 200 long steps.

14 Y tomó todo el oro, y la plata, y todos los utensilios que fueron hallados en la casa de Jehová, y en los tesoros de la casa del rey, y a los hijos tomó en rehenes, y volvió a Samaria.

He took all the gold and silver and all the objects found in the house of the Lord and in the store-rooms of the king’s house. He took people against their will also, and he returned to Samaria.

15 L os demás hechos que ejecutó Joás, y sus hazañas, y cómo peleó contra Amasías rey de Judá, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

16 Y durmió Joás con sus padres, y fue sepultado en Samaria con los reyes de Israel; y reinó en su lugar Jeroboam su hijo.

Jehoash died and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. His son Jeroboam became king in his place. The Death of Amaziah

17 Y Amasías hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, vivió después de la muerte de Joás hijo de Joacaz rey de Israel, quince años.

Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, lived fifteen years after the death of Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel.

18 L os demás hechos de Amasías, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá?

The rest of the acts of Amaziah are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah.

19 C onspiraron contra él en Jerusalén, y él huyó a Laquís; pero le persiguieron hasta Laquís, y allá lo mataron.

They made plans against Amaziah in Jerusalem, and he ran away to Lachish. But they sent men after him to Lachish and killed him there.

20 L o trajeron luego sobre caballos, y lo sepultaron en Jerusalén con sus padres, en la ciudad de David.

Then they brought him on horses and buried him with his fathers at Jerusalem the city of David.

21 E ntonces todo el pueblo de Judá tomó a Azarías, que era de dieciséis años, y lo hicieron rey en lugar de Amasías su padre.

The people of Judah took Azariah and made him king in the place of his father Amaziah. He was sixteen years old.

Azariah built Elath and returned it to Judah, after the king died. Jeroboam II Rules Israel

23 E l año quince de Amasías hijo de Joás rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar Jeroboam hijo de Joás sobre Israel en Samaria; y reinó cuarenta y un años.

In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, began to rule in Samaria and ruled forty-one years.

24 E hizo lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová, y no se apartó de todos los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nebat, el que hizo pecar a Israel.

Jeroboam did what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord. He did not turn away from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel sin.

25 É l restauró los límites de Israel desde la entrada de Hamat hasta el mar del Arabá, conforme a la palabra de Jehová Dios de Israel, la cual él había hablado por su siervo Jonás hijo de Amitay, profeta que fue de Gat-héfer.

He took back the land of Israel from Hamath as far as the Sea of the Arabah, as was told by the word of the Lord, the God of Israel. The Lord spoke about this through His servant Jonah the son of Amittai. Jonah was the man from Gath-hepher who spoke for the Lord.

26 P orque Jehová miró la muy amarga aflicción de Israel; que no había siervo ni libre, ni quien diese ayuda a Israel;

For the Lord saw that the trouble of Israel was very bitter. There was no one left of the servants or of those who were free. There was no one to help Israel.

27 y Jehová no había determinado raer el nombre de Israel de debajo del cielo; por tanto, los salvó por mano de Jeroboam hijo de Joás.

The Lord did not say that He would destroy the name of Israel from under heaven. So He saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

28 L os demás hechos de Jeroboam, y todo lo que hizo, y su valentía, y todas las guerras que hizo, y cómo restituyó al dominio de Israel a Damasco y Hamat, que habían pertenecido a Judá, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

Jeroboam fought Judah and took back Damascus and Hamath for Israel. The rest of the acts of Jeroboam, all he did and his strength are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.

29 Y durmió Jeroboam con sus padres, los reyes de Israel, y reinó en su lugar Zacarías su hijo.

Jeroboam was buried with his fathers, the kings of Israel. His son Zechariah became king in his place.
