1 E l primer día de la semana, muy de mañana, vinieron al sepulcro, trayendo las especias aromáticas que habían preparado; y algunas otras mujeres con ellas.

Early in the morning on the first day of the week, the women went to the grave taking the spices they had made ready.

2 Y hallaron que había sido retirada la piedra del sepulcro;

They found the stone had been pushed away from the grave.

3 y entrando, no hallaron el cuerpo del Señor Jesús.

They went in but they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

4 A conteció que estando ellas perplejas por esto, he aquí que se pararon junto a ellas dos varones con vestiduras resplandecientes;

While they wondered about what had happened, they saw two men standing by them in shining clothes.

5 y al llenarse ellas de miedo, y bajar el rostro a tierra, les dijeron ellos: ¿Por qué buscáis entre los muertos al que vive?

They were very much afraid and got down with their faces to the ground. The men said to them, “Why do you look for the living One among those who are dead?

6 N o está aquí, sino que ha resucitado. Recordad cómo os habló cuando aún estaba en Galilea,

He is not here. He is risen. Do you not remember what He said to you when He was yet in Galilee?

7 d iciendo: Es necesario que el Hijo del Hombre sea entregado en manos de hombres pecadores, y que sea crucificado, y resucite al tercer día.

He said, ‘The Son of Man must be given over into the hands of sinful men. He must be nailed to a cross. He will rise again three days later.’”

8 E ntonces ellas se acordaron de sus palabras,

They remembered what He had said.

9 y volviendo del sepulcro, refirieron todas estas cosas a los once, y a todos los demás.

When they came back from the grave, they told all these things to the eleven followers and to all the others.

10 E ran María Magdalena, y Juana, y María madre de Jacobo, y las demás con ellas, quienes dijeron estas cosas a los apóstoles.

They were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James. Other women who were with them told these things to the followers also.

11 M as a ellos les parecían locura las palabras de ellas, y no las creían.

Their words sounded like foolish talk. The followers did not believe them.

12 P ero Pedro se levantó, y corrió al sepulcro; y asomándose adentro, vio las vendas de amortajar puestas allí solas, y se fue a casa asombrado de lo que había sucedido. En el camino de Emaús

But Peter got up and ran to the grave. He got down to look in and saw only the linen clothes. Then he went away, surprised about what had happened. The Followers of Jesus Do Not Believe He Is Risen

13 Y he aquí que dos de ellos iban caminando el mismo día a una aldea llamada Emaús, que estaba a sesenta estadios de Jerusalén.

That same day two of His followers were going to the town of Emmaus. It was about a two-hour walk from Jerusalem.

14 E iban hablando entre sí de todas aquellas cosas que habían acontecido.

They talked of all these things that had happened.

15 S ucedió que mientras hablaban y discutían entre sí, Jesús mismo se acercó, y se puso a caminar con ellos.

While they were talking together, Jesus Himself came and walked along with them.

16 M as los ojos de ellos estaban velados, para que no le conociesen.

Something kept their eyes from seeing Who He was.

17 Y les dijo: ¿Qué discusiones son éstas que tenéis entre vosotros mientras camináis, y por qué estáis tristes?

He said to them, “What are you talking about as you walk?” They stood still and looked sad.

18 R espondiendo uno de ellos, que se llamaba Cleofas, le dijo: ¿Eres tú el único forastero en Jerusalén que no te has enterado de las cosas que en ella han acontecido en estos días?

One of them, whose name was Cleopas, said to Him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who has not heard of the things that have happened here these days?”

19 E ntonces él les dijo: ¿Qué cosas? Y ellos le dijeron: De Jesús nazareno, que fue un profeta, poderoso en obra y en palabra delante de Dios y de todo el pueblo;

Jesus said to them, “What things?” They answered, “The things about Jesus of Nazareth. He was the great One Who spoke for God. He did powerful works and spoke powerful words in the sight of God and the people.

20 y cómo le entregaron los principales sacerdotes, así como nuestros gobernantes, a sentencia de muerte, y le crucificaron.

And the religious leaders and the leaders of the people gave Him over to be killed and nailed Him to a cross.

21 P ero nosotros esperábamos que él era el que iba a redimir a Israel; ciertamente, y además de todo esto, hoy es ya el tercer día desde que esto ha acontecido.

We were hoping He was the One Who was going to make the Jewish people free. But it was three days ago when these things happened.

22 Y también nos han asombrado unas mujeres de entre nosotros, las que de madrugada fueron al sepulcro;

“Some of the women of our group have surprised us and made us wonder. They went to the grave early this morning.

23 y como no hallaron su cuerpo, vinieron diciendo que también habían visto visión de ángeles, los cuales dicen que él vive.

They did not find His body. They came back saying they had seen angels in a special dream who said that He was alive.

24 Y fueron algunos de los nuestros al sepulcro, y lo hallaron tal como las mujeres habían dicho, pero a él no le vieron.

Some of those who were with us went to the grave and found it as the women had said. But they did not see Him.”

25 E ntonces él les dijo: ¡Oh insensatos, y tardos de corazón para creer en todo lo que los profetas han dicho!

Then Jesus said to them, “You foolish men. How slow you are to believe what the early preachers have said.

26 ¿ No era necesario que el Cristo padeciera estas cosas, y que entrara en su gloria?

Did not Christ have to go through these hard things to come into His shining-greatness?”

27 Y comenzando desde Moisés, y siguiendo por todos los profetas, se puso a explicarles en todas las Escrituras lo referente a él.

Jesus kept on telling them what Moses and all the early preachers had said about Him in the Holy Writings.

28 L legaron a la aldea adonde iban, y él hizo como que iba más lejos.

When they came to the town where they were going, Jesus acted as if He were going farther.

29 M as ellos le constriñeron, diciendo: Quédate con nosotros, porque atardece, y el día ya ha declinado. Entró, pues, a quedarse con ellos.

But they said to Him, “Stay with us. It will soon be evening. The day is about over.” He went in to stay with them.

30 Y aconteció que estando sentado con ellos a la mesa, tomó el pan y bendijo; y partiéndolo, les dio.

As He sat at the table with them, He took the bread and gave thanks and broke it. Then He gave it to them.

31 E ntonces les fueron abiertos los ojos, y le reconocieron; mas él desapareció de su vista.

And their eyes were opened and they knew Him. Then He left them and could not be seen.

32 Y se dijeron el uno al otro: ¿No estaba ardiendo nuestro corazón dentro de nosotros, mientras nos hablaba en el camino, cuando nos abría las Escrituras?

They said to each other, “Were not our hearts filled with joy when He talked to us on the road about what the Holy Writings said?”

33 Y levantándose en aquella misma hora, volvieron a Jerusalén, y hallaron a los once reunidos, y a los que estaban con ellos,

Then they got up at once and went back to Jerusalem. They found the eleven followers together and others with them.

34 q ue decían: Ha resucitado el Señor verdaderamente, y se ha aparecido a Simón.

They said, “For sure the Lord is risen and was seen by Simon.”

35 E ntonces ellos contaban las cosas que les habían acontecido en el camino, y cómo le habían reconocido al partir el pan. El Señor se aparece a los discípulos

Then they told what had happened on the road and how they came to know Him when He broke the bread. Jesus Is Seen by the Other Ten Followers

36 M ientras ellos aún hablaban de estas cosas, Jesús se puso en medio de ellos, y les dijo: Paz a vosotros.

As they talked, Jesus Himself stood among them. He said, “May you have peace.”

37 E ntonces, espantados y atemorizados, creían ver un espíritu.

But they were afraid and full of fear. They thought they saw a spirit.

38 P ero él les dijo: ¿Por qué estáis turbados, y se suscitan en vuestro corazón estos pensamientos?

Jesus said to them, “Why are you afraid? Why do you have doubts in your hearts?

39 M irad mis manos y mis pies, que soy yo mismo; palpad, y ved; porque un espíritu no tiene carne ni huesos, como veis que yo tengo.

Look at My hands and My feet. See! It is I, Myself! Touch Me and see for yourself. A spirit does not have flesh and bones as I have.”

40 Y diciendo esto, les mostró las manos y los pies.

When Jesus had said this, He showed them His hands and feet.

41 Y como todavía ellos, de gozo, no lo creían, y estaban asombrados, les dijo: ¿Tenéis aquí algo de comer?

They still wondered. It was hard for them to believe it and yet it made them happy. Then He said to them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”

42 E ntonces le dieron parte de un pez asado, y un panal de miel.

They gave Jesus a piece of fish that had been cooked and some honey.

43 Y él lo tomó, y comió a la vista de ellos.

He took it and ate it in front of them. Jesus Sends His Followers to Teach

44 Y les dijo: Estas son las palabras que os hablé, estando aún con vosotros: que era necesario que se cumpliese todo lo que está escrito de mí en la ley de Moisés, en los profetas y en los salmos.

Jesus said to them, “These are the things I told you while I was yet with you. All things written about Me in the Law of Moses and in the Books of the early preachers and in the Psalms must happen as they said they would happen.”

45 E ntonces les abrió la mente, para que comprendiesen las Escrituras;

Then He opened their minds to understand the Holy Writings.

46 y les dijo: Así está escrito, y así era necesario que el Cristo padeciese, y resucitase de los muertos al tercer día;

He said to them, “It is written that Christ should suffer and be raised from the dead after three days.

47 y que se predicase en su nombre el arrepentimiento y el perdón de pecados a todas las naciones, comenzando desde Jerusalén.

It must be preached that men must be sorry for their sins and turn from them. Then they will be forgiven. This must be preached in His name to all nations beginning in Jerusalem.

48 Y vosotros sois testigos de estas cosas.

You are to tell what you have seen.

49 H e aquí que yo voy a enviar sobre vosotros la promesa de mi Padre; pero vosotros quedaos en la ciudad, hasta que seáis revestidos de poder desde lo alto. La ascensión

See! I will send you what My Father promised. But you are to stay in Jerusalem until you have received power from above.” Jesus Goes to Be Beside His Father

50 Y los sacó fuera hasta Betania, y alzando sus manos, los bendijo.

Jesus led them out as far as Bethany. Then He lifted up His hands and prayed that good would come to them.

51 Y aconteció que mientras los bendecía, se fue alejando de ellos, e iba siendo llevado arriba al cielo.

And while He was praying that good would come to them, He went from them (and was taken up to heaven and

52 E llos, después de haberle adorado, se volvieron a Jerusalén con gran gozo;

they worshiped Him). Then they went back to Jerusalem with great joy.

53 y estaban siempre en el templo, alabando y bendiciendo a Dios. Amén.

They spent all their time in the house of God honoring and giving thanks to God.
