1 M a il primo giorno della settimana, la mattina prestissimo, esse si recarono al sepolcro, portando gli aromi che avevano preparati.

Early in the morning on the first day of the week, the women went to the grave taking the spices they had made ready.

2 E trovarono che la pietra era stata rotolata dal sepolcro.

They found the stone had been pushed away from the grave.

3 M a quando entrarono non trovarono il corpo del Signore Gesù.

They went in but they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

4 M entre se ne stavano perplesse di questo fatto, ecco che apparvero davanti a loro due uomini in vesti risplendenti;

While they wondered about what had happened, they saw two men standing by them in shining clothes.

5 t utte impaurite chinarono il viso a terra, ma quelli dissero loro: «Perché cercate il vivente tra i morti?

They were very much afraid and got down with their faces to the ground. The men said to them, “Why do you look for the living One among those who are dead?

6 E gli non è qui, ma è risuscitato; ricordate come egli vi parlò quand’era ancora in Galilea,

He is not here. He is risen. Do you not remember what He said to you when He was yet in Galilee?

7 d icendo che il Figlio dell’uomo doveva essere dato nelle mani di uomini peccatori ed essere crocifisso, e il terzo giorno risuscitare».

He said, ‘The Son of Man must be given over into the hands of sinful men. He must be nailed to a cross. He will rise again three days later.’”

8 E sse si ricordarono delle sue parole.

They remembered what He had said.

9 T ornate dal sepolcro, annunciarono tutte queste cose agli undici e a tutti gli altri.

When they came back from the grave, they told all these things to the eleven followers and to all the others.

10 Q uelle che dissero queste cose agli apostoli erano: Maria Maddalena, Giovanna, Maria, madre di Giacomo, e le altre donne che erano con loro.

They were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James. Other women who were with them told these things to the followers also.

11 Q uelle parole sembrarono loro un vaneggiare e non gli credettero.

Their words sounded like foolish talk. The followers did not believe them.

12 M a Pietro, alzatosi, corse al sepolcro; si chinò a guardare e vide solo le fasce; poi se ne andò, meravigliandosi dentro di sé per quello che era avvenuto. Gesù sulla via per Emmaus

But Peter got up and ran to the grave. He got down to look in and saw only the linen clothes. Then he went away, surprised about what had happened. The Followers of Jesus Do Not Believe He Is Risen

13 D ue di loro se ne andavano in quello stesso giorno a un villaggio di nome Emmaus, distante da Gerusalemme sessanta stadi;

That same day two of His followers were going to the town of Emmaus. It was about a two-hour walk from Jerusalem.

14 e parlavano tra di loro di tutte le cose che erano accadute.

They talked of all these things that had happened.

15 M entre discorrevano e discutevano insieme, Gesù stesso si avvicinò e cominciò a camminare con loro.

While they were talking together, Jesus Himself came and walked along with them.

16 M a i loro occhi erano impediti a tal punto che non lo riconoscevano.

Something kept their eyes from seeing Who He was.

17 E gli domandò loro: «Di che discorrete fra di voi lungo il cammino?» Ed essi si fermarono tutti tristi.

He said to them, “What are you talking about as you walk?” They stood still and looked sad.

18 U no dei due, che si chiamava Cleopa, gli rispose: «Tu solo, tra i forestieri, stando in Gerusalemme, non hai saputo le cose che vi sono accadute in questi giorni?»

One of them, whose name was Cleopas, said to Him, “Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who has not heard of the things that have happened here these days?”

19 E gli disse loro: «Quali?» Essi gli risposero: «Il fatto di Gesù Nazareno, che era un profeta potente in opere e in parole davanti a Dio e a tutto il popolo;

Jesus said to them, “What things?” They answered, “The things about Jesus of Nazareth. He was the great One Who spoke for God. He did powerful works and spoke powerful words in the sight of God and the people.

20 c ome i capi dei sacerdoti e i nostri magistrati lo hanno fatto condannare a morte e lo hanno crocifisso.

And the religious leaders and the leaders of the people gave Him over to be killed and nailed Him to a cross.

21 N oi speravamo che fosse lui che avrebbe liberato Israele; invece, con tutto ciò, ecco il terzo giorno da quando sono accadute queste cose.

We were hoping He was the One Who was going to make the Jewish people free. But it was three days ago when these things happened.

22 È vero che certe donne tra di noi ci hanno fatto stupire; andate la mattina di buon’ora al sepolcro,

“Some of the women of our group have surprised us and made us wonder. They went to the grave early this morning.

23 n on hanno trovato il suo corpo, e sono ritornate dicendo di aver avuto anche una visione di angeli, i quali dicono che egli è vivo.

They did not find His body. They came back saying they had seen angels in a special dream who said that He was alive.

24 A lcuni dei nostri sono andati al sepolcro e hanno trovato tutto come avevano detto le donne, ma lui non lo hanno visto».

Some of those who were with us went to the grave and found it as the women had said. But they did not see Him.”

25 A llora Gesù disse loro: «O insensati e lenti di cuore nel credere a tutte le cose che i profeti hanno dette!

Then Jesus said to them, “You foolish men. How slow you are to believe what the early preachers have said.

26 N on doveva il Cristo soffrire tutto ciò ed entrare nella sua gloria?»

Did not Christ have to go through these hard things to come into His shining-greatness?”

27 E , cominciando da Mosè e da tutti i profeti, spiegò loro in tutte le Scritture le cose che lo riguardavano.

Jesus kept on telling them what Moses and all the early preachers had said about Him in the Holy Writings.

28 Q uando si furono avvicinati al villaggio dove stavano andando, egli fece come se volesse proseguire.

When they came to the town where they were going, Jesus acted as if He were going farther.

29 E ssi lo trattennero, dicendo: «Rimani con noi, perché si fa sera e il giorno sta per finire». Ed egli entrò per rimanere con loro.

But they said to Him, “Stay with us. It will soon be evening. The day is about over.” He went in to stay with them.

30 Q uando fu a tavola con loro prese il pane, lo benedisse, lo spezzò e lo diede loro.

As He sat at the table with them, He took the bread and gave thanks and broke it. Then He gave it to them.

31 A llora i loro occhi furono aperti e lo riconobbero, ma egli scomparve alla loro vista.

And their eyes were opened and they knew Him. Then He left them and could not be seen.

32 E d essi dissero l’uno all’altro: «Non sentivamo forse ardere il cuore {dentro di noi} mentre egli ci parlava per la via e ci spiegava le Scritture?»

They said to each other, “Were not our hearts filled with joy when He talked to us on the road about what the Holy Writings said?”

33 E , alzatisi in quello stesso momento, tornarono a Gerusalemme e trovarono riuniti gli undici e quelli che erano con loro,

Then they got up at once and went back to Jerusalem. They found the eleven followers together and others with them.

34 i quali dicevano: «Il Signore è veramente risorto ed è apparso a Simone».

They said, “For sure the Lord is risen and was seen by Simon.”

35 E ssi pure raccontarono le cose avvenute loro per la via, e come era stato da loro riconosciuto nello spezzare il pane.

Then they told what had happened on the road and how they came to know Him when He broke the bread. Jesus Is Seen by the Other Ten Followers

36 O ra, mentre essi parlavano di queste cose, Gesù stesso comparve in mezzo a loro e disse: «Pace a voi!»

As they talked, Jesus Himself stood among them. He said, “May you have peace.”

37 M a essi, sconvolti e atterriti, pensavano di vedere uno spirito.

But they were afraid and full of fear. They thought they saw a spirit.

38 E d egli disse loro: «Perché siete turbati? E perché sorgono dubbi nel vostro cuore ?

Jesus said to them, “Why are you afraid? Why do you have doubts in your hearts?

39 G uardate le mie mani e i miei piedi, perché sono proprio io! Toccatemi e guardate, perché uno spirito non ha carne e ossa, come vedete che ho io».

Look at My hands and My feet. See! It is I, Myself! Touch Me and see for yourself. A spirit does not have flesh and bones as I have.”

40 E , detto questo, mostrò loro le mani e i piedi.

When Jesus had said this, He showed them His hands and feet.

41 M a siccome per la gioia non credevano ancora e si stupivano, disse loro: «Avete qui qualcosa da mangiare?»

They still wondered. It was hard for them to believe it and yet it made them happy. Then He said to them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”

42 E ssi gli porsero un pezzo di pesce arrostito;

They gave Jesus a piece of fish that had been cooked and some honey.

43 e gli lo prese, e mangiò in loro presenza. La missione affidata ai discepoli

He took it and ate it in front of them. Jesus Sends His Followers to Teach

44 P oi disse loro: «Queste sono le cose che io vi dicevo quand’ero ancora con voi: che si dovevano compiere tutte le cose scritte di me nella legge di Mosè, nei profeti e nei Salmi».

Jesus said to them, “These are the things I told you while I was yet with you. All things written about Me in the Law of Moses and in the Books of the early preachers and in the Psalms must happen as they said they would happen.”

45 A llora aprì loro la mente per capire le Scritture e disse loro:

Then He opened their minds to understand the Holy Writings.

46 « Così è scritto, che il Cristo avrebbe sofferto e sarebbe risorto dai morti il terzo giorno,

He said to them, “It is written that Christ should suffer and be raised from the dead after three days.

47 e che nel suo nome si sarebbe predicato il ravvedimento per il perdono dei peccati a tutte le genti, cominciando da Gerusalemme.

It must be preached that men must be sorry for their sins and turn from them. Then they will be forgiven. This must be preached in His name to all nations beginning in Jerusalem.

48 V oi siete testimoni di queste cose.

You are to tell what you have seen.

49 E d {ecco,} io mando su di voi quello che il Padre mio ha promesso; ma voi, rimanete in città, finché siate rivestiti di potenza dall’alto». L’ascensione di Gesù

See! I will send you what My Father promised. But you are to stay in Jerusalem until you have received power from above.” Jesus Goes to Be Beside His Father

50 P oi li condusse fuori fin presso Betania; e, alzate in alto le mani, li benedisse.

Jesus led them out as far as Bethany. Then He lifted up His hands and prayed that good would come to them.

51 M entre li benediceva, si staccò da loro e fu portato su nel cielo.

And while He was praying that good would come to them, He went from them (and was taken up to heaven and

52 E d essi, adoratolo, tornarono a Gerusalemme con grande gioia;

they worshiped Him). Then they went back to Jerusalem with great joy.

53 e stavano sempre nel tempio, benedicendo Dio.

They spent all their time in the house of God honoring and giving thanks to God.
