1 G esù si mise di nuovo a insegnare presso il mare. Una grandissima folla si radunò intorno a lui, tanto che egli, montato su una barca, vi sedette stando in mare, mentre tutta la folla era a terra sulla riva.

Jesus began to teach by the sea-shore again. Many people gathered around Him. There were so many He had to get into a boat and sit down. The people were on the shore.

2 E gli insegnava loro molte cose in parabole e diceva loro nel suo insegnamento:

He taught them many things by using picture-stories. As He taught, He said,

3 « Ascoltate: il seminatore uscì a seminare.

“Listen! A man went out to plant seed.

4 M entre seminava, una parte del seme cadde lungo la strada; e gli uccelli vennero e lo mangiarono.

As he planted the seed, some fell by the side of the road. Birds came and ate them.

5 U n’altra cadde in un suolo roccioso dove non aveva molta terra; e subito spuntò, perché non aveva terreno profondo;

Some seed fell among rocks. It came up at once because there was so little ground.

6 m a quando il sole si levò, fu bruciata e, non avendo radice, inaridì.

But it dried up when the sun was high in the sky because it had no root.

7 U n’altra cadde fra le spine; le spine crebbero e la soffocarono, ed essa non fece frutto.

Some seed fell among thorns. The thorns grew and did not give the seed room to grow. This seed gave no grain.

8 A ltre parti caddero nella buona terra; portarono frutto, che venne su e crebbe, e giunsero a dare il trenta, il sessanta e il cento per uno».

Some seed fell on good ground. It came up and grew and gave much grain. Some gave thirty times as much grain. Some gave sixty times as much grain. Some gave one hundred times as much grain.”

9 P oi disse: «Chi ha orecchi per udire oda».

He said to them, “You have ears, then listen!”

10 Q uando egli fu solo, quelli che gli stavano intorno con i dodici lo interrogarono sulle parabole.

Those who were with Jesus and the twelve followers came to Him when He was alone. They asked about the picture-story.

11 E gli disse loro: «A voi è dato il mistero del regno di Dio; ma a quelli che sono di fuori tutto viene esposto in parabole, affinché:

He said to them, “You were given the secrets about the holy nation of God. Everything is told in picture-stories to those who are outside the holy nation of God.

12 “ Vedendo, vedano sì, ma non discernano; udendo, odano sì, ma non comprendano; affinché non si convertano, e non siano perdonati” ».

They see, but do not know what it means. They hear, but do not understand. If they did, they might turn to God and have their sins forgiven.” Jesus Tells about the Man Who Planted the Seed

13 P oi disse loro: «Non capite questa parabola? Come comprenderete tutte le altre parabole?

Jesus said to them, “Do you not understand this picture-story? Then how will you understand any of the picture-stories?

14 I l seminatore semina la parola.

What the man plants is the Word of God.

15 Q uelli che sono lungo la strada sono coloro nei quali è seminata la parola; e quando l’hanno udita, subito viene Satana e porta via la parola seminata in loro.

Those by the side of the road are the ones who hear the Word. As soon as they hear it, the devil comes and takes away the Word that is planted in their hearts.

16 E così quelli che ricevono il seme in luoghi rocciosi sono coloro che, quando odono la parola, la ricevono subito con gioia;

The seed that fell among rocks is like people who receive the Word with joy when they hear it.

17 m a non hanno in sé radice e sono di corta durata; poi, quando vengono tribolazione o persecuzione a causa della parola, sono subito sviati.

Their roots are not deep so they live only a short time. When sorrow and trouble come because of the Word, they give up and fall away.

18 E altri sono quelli che ricevono il seme tra le spine; cioè coloro che hanno udito la parola;

The seed that was planted among thorns is like some people who listen to the Word.

19 p oi le ansiose preoccupazioni mondane, l’inganno delle ricchezze, l’avidità delle altre cose, penetrati in loro, soffocano la parola, che così riesce infruttuosa.

But the cares of this life let thorns come up. A love for riches and always wanting other things let thorns grow. These things do not give the Word room to grow so it does not give grain.

20 Q uelli poi che hanno ricevuto il seme in buona terra sono coloro che odono la parola e l’accolgono e fruttano il trenta, il sessanta e il cento per uno». La lampada sul candeliere

The seed that fell on good ground is like people who hear the Word and understand it. They give much grain. Some give thirty times as much grain. Some give sixty times as much grain. Some give one hundred times as much grain.” The Picture-Story of the Lamp

21 P oi diceva ancora loro: «Si prende forse la lampada per metterla sotto un recipiente o sotto il letto? Non la si prende invece per metterla sul candeliere?

He said to them, “Is a lamp to be put under a pail or under a bed? Should it not be put on a lamp-stand?

22 P oiché non vi è nulla che sia nascosto se non per essere manifestato; e nulla è stato tenuto segreto se non per essere messo in luce.

Everything that is hidden will be brought into the light. Everything that is a secret will be made known.

23 S e uno ha orecchi per udire oda».

You have ears, then listen!”

24 D iceva loro ancora: «Badate a ciò che udite. Con la misura con la quale misurate sarete misurati pure voi; e a voi sarà dato anche di più;

Jesus said to them, “Be careful what you listen to. The same amount you give will be given to you, and even more.

25 p oiché a chi ha sarà dato, a chi non ha sarà tolto anche quello che ha». Il seme che da sé germoglia e cresce

He who has, to him will be given. To him who does not have, even the little he has will be taken from him.” The Picture-Story of the Grain

26 D iceva ancora: «Il regno di Dio è come un uomo che getti il seme nel terreno,

He said, “The holy nation of God is like a man who plants seed in the ground.

27 e dorma e si alzi, la notte e il giorno; il seme intanto germoglia e cresce senza che egli sappia come.

He goes to sleep every night and gets up every day. The seed grows, but he does not know how.

28 L a terra da se stessa porta frutto: prima l’erba, poi la spiga, poi nella spiga il grano ben formato.

The earth gives fruit by itself. The leaf comes first and then the young grain can be seen. And last, the grain is ready to gather.

29 E quando il frutto è maturo, subito vi mette la falce perché l’ora della mietitura è venuta». Il granello di senape

As soon as the grain is ready, he cuts it. The time of gathering the grain has come.” The Picture-Story of the Mustard Seed

30 D iceva ancora: «A che paragoneremo il regno di Dio, o con quale parabola lo rappresenteremo?

Jesus said, “In what way can we show what the holy nation of God is like? Or what picture-story can we use to help you understand?

31 E sso è simile a un granello di senape, il quale, quando lo si è seminato in terra, è il più piccolo di tutti i semi che sono sulla terra;

It is like a grain of mustard seed that is planted in the ground. It is the smallest of all seeds.

32 m a quando è seminato, cresce e diventa più grande di tutti gli ortaggi; e fa dei rami tanto grandi che alla sua ombra possono ripararsi gli uccelli del cielo».

After it is put in the ground, it grows and becomes the largest of the spices. It puts out long branches so birds of the sky can live in it.”

33 C on molte parabole di questo genere esponeva loro la parola, secondo quello che potevano intendere.

As they were able to understand, He spoke the Word to them by using many picture-stories.

34 N on parlava loro senza parabola; ma in privato ai suoi discepoli spiegava ogni cosa. Gesù calma la tempesta

Jesus helped His followers understand everything when He was alone with them. The Wind and Waves Obey Jesus

35 I n quello stesso giorno, alla sera, Gesù disse loro: «Passiamo all’altra riva».

It was evening of that same day. Jesus said to them, “Let us go over to the other side.”

36 E lasciata la folla, lo presero con sé, così com’era, nella barca. C’erano delle altre barche con lui.

After sending the people away, they took Jesus with them in a boat. It was the same boat He used when He taught them. Other little boats went along with them.

37 E d ecco levarsi una gran bufera di vento che gettava le onde nella barca, tanto che la barca già si riempiva.

A bad wind storm came up. The waves were coming over the side of the boat. It was filling up with water.

38 E gli stava dormendo sul guanciale a poppa. Essi lo svegliarono e gli dissero: «Maestro, non t’importa che noi moriamo?»

Jesus was in the back part of the boat sleeping on a pillow. They woke Him up, crying out, “Teacher, do You not care that we are about to die?”

39 E gli, svegliatosi, sgridò il vento e disse al mare: «Taci, càlmati!» Il vento cessò e si fece gran bonaccia.

He got up and spoke sharp words to the wind. He said to the sea, “Be quiet! Be still.” At once the wind stopped blowing. There were no more waves.

40 E gli disse loro: «Perché siete così paurosi? Non avete ancora fede? »

He said to His followers, “Why are you so full of fear? Do you not have faith?”

41 E d essi furono presi da gran timore e si dicevano gli uni gli altri: «Chi è dunque costui, al quale persino il vento e il mare ubbidiscono?»

They were very much afraid and said to each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and waves obey Him!”
