1 M osè parlò ai capi delle tribù dei figli d’Israele e disse:

Then Moses said to the heads of the families of the sons of Israel, “This is what the Lord has said.

2 « Questo è l’ordine dato dal Signore: quando uno avrà fatto un voto al Signore o avrà con giuramento assunto un solenne impegno, non verrà meno alla sua parola, ma metterà in pratica tutto quello che ha promesso.

If a man makes a promise to the Lord, or swears that he will keep his promise, he must not break his word. He must do all that he said he would do.

3 « Così pure quando una donna, ancora giovane e nella casa di suo padre, avrà fatto un voto al Signore e avrà assunto un solenne impegno,

If a woman makes a promise to the Lord, and swears to keep her promise in her father’s house when she is young,

4 s e il padre, avendo conoscenza del voto di lei e dell’impegno che ha assunto, non dice nulla a questo proposito, tutti i voti di lei saranno validi e saranno validi tutti gli impegni che ha assunto.

and if her father hears her promise and how she has sworn to keep it, and says nothing to her, then all her promises must be kept. She must keep every promise she has sworn to keep.

5 M a se il padre, il giorno che ne viene a conoscenza, le fa opposizione, tutti i voti di lei e tutti gli impegni che avrà assunto non saranno validi; il Signore glieli condonerà, perché il padre le ha fatto opposizione.

But if her father does not allow her to keep her promise on the day he hears of it, then she does not need to keep any of the promises she has sworn to keep. The Lord will forgive her because her father would not allow it.

6 S e si sposa mentre è legata da voti o impegnata da una promessa fatta alla leggera solo con le labbra,

“If she gets married and has promises to keep because of what she swore without thinking,

7 s e il marito viene a saperlo e il giorno che ne è informato non dice nulla, i voti di lei saranno validi e saranno validi gli impegni che lei ha assunto.

and if her husband hears of it and says nothing to her on the day he hears, then she must keep the promises she has sworn to keep.

8 M a se il marito, il giorno che ne viene a conoscenza, le fa opposizione, egli annullerà il voto che lei ha fatto, e la promessa che ha proferito alla leggera per la quale si è impegnata; e il Signore gliela condonerà.

But if on the day he hears of it, her husband does not allow her to keep her promise, then she will not have to keep the promise that she had sworn to keep when she was not thinking. The Lord will forgive her.

9 M a il voto di una vedova o di una donna ripudiata, qualunque sia l’impegno che ha assunto, rimarrà valido.

“A woman whose husband has died or left her must keep the promises she has sworn to keep.

10 Q uando una donna, nella casa di suo marito, farà dei voti o si legherà con un giuramento

But if she has made a promise in her husband’s house, and she has sworn to keep a promise there

11 e il marito ne avrà conoscenza, se il marito non dice nulla e non le fa opposizione, tutti i voti di lei saranno validi, e saranno validi tutti gli impegni che avrà assunto.

and if her husband hears of it, and does not go against her or say anything to her, then she must keep all the promises she had sworn to keep.

12 M a se il marito, il giorno che viene a saperlo, li annulla, tutto ciò che le sarà uscito dalle labbra, siano voti o impegni che ha assunto, non sarà valido; il marito lo ha annullato; e il Signore glielo condonerà.

But if her husband does not allow her to keep her promises on the day he hears of them, then she does not have to keep the promises she had sworn to keep. If her husband will not let her keep them, the Lord will forgive her.

13 I l marito può convalidare o annullare qualunque voto e qualunque giuramento per il quale la moglie si è impegnata a mortificare la sua persona.

“Her husband has the right to have her keep, or not keep, any promise she has sworn to keep.

14 M a se il marito, giorno dopo giorno, non dice nulla in proposito, egli convalida così tutti i voti di lei e tutti gli impegni che la moglie ha assunto; li convalida, perché non ha detto nulla a questo proposito il giorno che ne ha avuto conoscenza.

But if her husband says nothing to her from day to day, then she must keep all her promises. He made her promises so they could not be changed, because he said nothing to her on the day he heard of them.

15 M a se li annulla qualche tempo dopo averne avuto conoscenza, sarà responsabile del peccato della moglie».

But if he will not allow her to keep her promises after he has heard of them, then her guilt will be on him.”

16 T ali sono le leggi che il Signore prescrisse a Mosè riguardo al marito e alla moglie, al padre e alla figlia, quando questa non è ancora sposata, in casa di suo padre.

These are the Laws which the Lord told Moses, between a man and his wife, and between a father and his daughter, while she is young and in her father’s house.
