1 I l diciottesimo anno del regno di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, Abiiam cominciò a regnare sopra Giuda.

In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam the son of Nabat, Abijam became king over Judah.

2 R egnò tre anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Maaca, figlia di Abisalom.

He ruled for three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom.

3 E gli si abbandonò a tutti i peccati che suo padre aveva commessi prima di lui, e il suo cuore non fu tutto quanto per il Signore, suo Dio, com’era stato il cuore di Davide suo padre.

And he walked in all the sins which his father had done before him. He was not faithful to the Lord with all his heart, like the heart of his father David.

4 T uttavia, per amore di Davide, il Signore, suo Dio, gli lasciò una lampada a Gerusalemme, stabilendo dopo di lui suo figlio e lasciando sussistere Gerusalemme;

But the Lord his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem because of David. He gave him a son to rule after him and to keep Jerusalem strong.

5 p erché Davide aveva fatto ciò che è giusto agli occhi del Signore e non si era scostato in nulla dai suoi comandamenti per tutto il tempo della sua vita, salvo nel fatto di Uria, l’Ittita.

Because David did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. He did not turn away from anything the Lord told him to do all the days of his life, except in what happened with Uriah the Hittite.

6 T ra Roboamo e Geroboamo vi fu guerra, finché Roboamo visse.

And there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.

7 I l resto delle azioni di Abiiam e tutto quello che egli fece è scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda. Vi fu guerra fra Abiiam e Geroboamo.

Now the rest of the acts of Abijam and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam.

8 E Abiiam si addormentò con i suoi padri, e fu sepolto nella città di Davide; e Asa, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto. Asa, re di Giuda

Abijam died and they buried him in the city of David. His son Asa became king in his place. Asa Rules Judah

9 I l ventesimo anno del regno di Geroboamo, re d’Israele, Asa cominciò a regnare sopra Giuda.

In the twentieth year of Jeroboam the king of Israel, Asa began to rule as king of Judah.

10 R egnò quarantun anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Maaca, figlia di Abisalom.

He ruled for forty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom.

11 A sa fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi del Signore, come aveva fatto Davide suo padre:

And Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, like David his father.

12 e liminò dal paese quelli che si prostituivano, fece sparire tutti gl’idoli che i suoi padri avevano fatti

He sent away the men from the land who sold the use of their bodies in their religion. He took away all the false gods his father had made.

13 e destituì pure dalla dignità di regina sua madre Maaca, perché lei aveva innalzato un’immagine ad Astarte; Asa abbatté l’immagine e la bruciò presso il torrente Chidron.

He stopped his mother Maacah from being queen mother, because she had made a hated object of the false goddess Asherah. And Asa cut down her hated object and burned it at the river Kidron.

14 T uttavia gli alti luoghi non furono eliminati, sebbene il cuore di Asa fosse interamente per il Signore, durante tutta la sua vita.

The high places were not taken away. But Asa was faithful to the Lord with all his heart for all his days.

15 E gli fece portare nella casa del Signore le cose che suo padre aveva consacrate e quelle che aveva consacrate egli stesso: argento, oro, vasi.

He brought into the house of the Lord the holy things of his father and his own holy things, silver, gold, and holy objects.

16 C i fu guerra tra Asa e Baasa, re d’Israele, tutto il tempo della loro vita.

There was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.

17 B aasa, re d’Israele, salì contro Giuda e costruì Rama, perché nessuno andasse e venisse dalla parte di Asa, re di Giuda.

Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah. He built walls around Ramah to stop anyone from going out or coming in to Asa king of Judah.

18 A llora Asa prese tutto l’argento e l’oro che era rimasto nei tesori della casa del Signore, prese i tesori del palazzo del re e li affidò ai suoi servitori, che mandò presso Ben-Adad, figlio di Tabrimmon, figlio di Chesion, re di Siria, che abitava a Damasco, per dirgli:

Then Asa took all the silver and the gold which were left in the storerooms of the Lord’s house and the king’s house, and gave them to his servants. King Asa sent them to Ben-hadad the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, who lived in Damascus. Asa said,

19 « Ci sia alleanza fra me e te, come ci fu tra mio padre e tuo padre. Ecco, io ti mando in dono dell’argento e dell’oro; va’, rompi la tua alleanza con Baasa, re d’Israele, affinché egli si ritiri da me».

“Let there be an agreement of peace between me and you, as between my father and your father. See, I have sent you a gift of silver and gold. Go and break your agreement of peace with Baasha king of Israel, so that he will leave me.”

20 B en-Adad diede ascolto al re Asa; mandò i capi del suo esercito contro le città d’Israele ed espugnò Iion, Dan, Abel-Bet-Maaca e tutta la regione di Chinnerot con tutto il paese di Neftali.

Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel. He destroyed Ijon, Dan, Abel-bethmaacah, all Chinneroth, and all the land of Naphtali.

21 Q uando Baasa udì questo, cessò di costruire Rama e rimase a Tirsa.

When Baasha heard about it, he stopped building a wall around Ramah, and stayed in Tirzah.

22 A llora il re Asa convocò tutti quelli di Giuda, senza escludere nessuno; e quelli portarono via le pietre e il legname di cui Baasa si era servito per la costruzione di Rama; e con essi il re Asa costruì Gheba di Beniamino e Mispa.

Then King Asa made the news known to all Judah. There was no one who did not hear it. They carried away the stones of Ramah and its pieces of wood with which Baasha had built. And King Asa used them to build Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.

23 I l resto di tutte le azioni di Asa, tutte le sue prodezze, tutto ciò che egli fece e le città che costruì, si trova scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda. Ma, nella sua vecchiaia, egli soffrì di male ai piedi.

Now the rest of all the acts of Asa and all his strength and all he did and the cities he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? But when he was old he had a disease in his feet.

24 A sa si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto con essi nella città di Davide, suo padre; e Giosafat, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto. Nadab, re d’Israele

Asa died and was buried with his fathers in the city of his father David. His son Jehoshaphat ruled in his place. Nadab Rules Israel

25 N adab, figlio di Geroboamo, cominciò a regnare sopra Israele il secondo anno di Asa, re di Giuda, e regnò sopra Israele due anni.

Jeroboam’s son Nadab became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah. And he ruled over Israel for two years.

26 E gli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore; seguì la via di suo padre e imitò il peccato che aveva fatto commettere a Israele.

He did what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord. He walked in the way of his father, and in his sin with which he made Israel sin.

27 B aasa, figlio di Aiia, della casa d’Issacar, cospirò contro di lui e lo uccise a Ghibbeton, che apparteneva ai Filistei, mentre Nadab e tutto Israele assediavano Ghibbeton.

Then Baasha the son of Ahijah of the family of Issachar made plans against him. Baasha killed him at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines. Nadab and all Israel had been gathering their army in battle around Gibbethon.

28 B aasa lo uccise il terzo anno di Asa, re di Giuda, e regnò al suo posto.

So Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah, and ruled in his place.

29 A ppena fu re, Baasa sterminò tutta la casa di Geroboamo; non risparmiò nessuno di quella casa, ma la distrusse interamente, secondo la parola che il Signore aveva pronunciata per bocca del suo servo Aiia di Silo,

As soon as he was king, Baasha killed all those of the family of Jeroboam. He did not leave to Jeroboam any person alive, destroying them all. It happened just as the word of the Lord was spoken through God’s servant Ahijah the Shilonite.

30 a causa dei peccati che Geroboamo aveva commessi e fatto commettere a Israele, quando aveva provocato l’ira del Signore, Dio d’Israele.

It happened because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned and which he made Israel sin. He made the Lord God of Israel angry.

31 I l resto delle azioni di Nadab e tutto quello che fece sono scritti nel libro delle Cronache dei re d’Israele. Baasa, re d’Israele

Now the rest of the acts of Nadab and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

32 C i fu guerra tra Asa e Baasa, re d’Israele, tutto il tempo della loro vita.

And there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days. Baasha Rules Israel

33 I l terzo anno di Asa, re di Giuda, Baasa, figlio di Aiia, cominciò a regnare su tutto Israele. Stava a Tirsa, e regnò ventiquattro anni.

In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha the son of Ahijah became king of all Israel at Tirzah. He ruled for twenty-four years.

34 F ece quel che è male agli occhi del Signore; seguì la via di Geroboamo e imitò il peccato che questi aveva fatto commettere a Israele.

He did what was sinful in the eyes of the Lord. He walked in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin which he made Israel sin.
