1 P reghiera di Davide. O Signore, ascolta ciò che è giusto, sii attento al mio grido; porgi orecchio alla mia preghiera, che non viene da labbra ingannatrici.

Hear what is right, O Lord. Listen to my cry. Hear my prayer, for it does not come from lying lips.

2 D alla tua presenza venga alla luce il mio diritto; gli occhi tuoi riconoscano la rettitudine.

May You decide in my favor. May Your eyes see what is right.

3 T u hai scrutato il mio cuore, l’hai visitato nella notte; mi hai provato e non hai trovato nulla; la mia bocca non va oltre il mio pensiero.

You have tested my heart. You have visited me during the night. You have tested me and have found nothing wrong. I have decided that my mouth will not sin.

4 Q uanto alle opere degli uomini, io, per ubbidire alla parola delle tue labbra, mi son guardato dalle vie del violento.

As for the actions of men, by the word of Your lips, I have kept myself from the paths of those who want to hurt others.

5 I miei passi si son tenuti saldi sui tuoi sentieri, i miei piedi non hanno vacillato.

My steps have followed Your paths. My feet have not turned from them.

6 I o t’invoco, perché tu mi esaudisci, o Dio; inclina verso di me il tuo orecchio, ascolta le mie parole!

I have called to You, O God, for You will answer me. Listen to me and hear my words.

7 M ostrami le meraviglie della tua bontà, o tu che con la tua destra salvi chi cerca un rifugio al riparo dai suoi avversari.

Show Your great loving-kindness. You save by Your right hand the people that come to You for help from those who hate them.

8 A bbi cura di me come la pupilla dell’occhio, nascondimi, all’ombra delle tue ali,

Keep me safe as You would Your own eye. Hide me in the shadow of Your wings,

9 d agli empi che vogliono la mia rovina, dai nemici mortali che mi circondano.

from the sinful who fight against me, those who would kill me and are all around me.

10 S ono duri di cuore a causa delle loro ricchezze, la loro bocca parla con arroganza.

They have closed their fat hearts to pity. And their mouths speak with pride.

11 O ra ci stanno accerchiando, seguono i nostri passi; ci spiano per abbatterci.

They have followed our every step and are all around us. They are watching for a way to bring us down to the ground.

12 I l mio nemico sembra un leone che voglia sbranare la preda, un leoncello che sta in agguato nei nascondigli.

He is like a hungry lion, like a young lion hiding and waiting.

13 E rgiti, o Signore, affrontalo, abbattilo; liberami dall’empio con la tua spada;

Rise up, O Lord. Stand against him. Bring him down. Save me from the sinful with Your sword.

14 l iberami, con la tua mano, dagli uomini, o Signore, dagli uomini del mondo, il cui compenso è solo in questa vita, e il cui ventre tu riempi con i tuoi beni; di questi si saziano i loro figli, e lasciano il resto dei loro averi ai loro bambini.

O Lord, save me by Your hand from such men. Their riches are in this life. Their stomach is filled with what you have stored for them. Their children are filled. Let them leave some for their babies.

15 Q uanto a me, per la mia giustizia, contemplerò il tuo volto; mi sazierò, al mio risveglio, della tua presenza.

As for me, I will see Your face in what is right and good. I will be happy to see You when I awake.
